I've only stopped using night skin because it was too obvious I was doing non-programming stuff at work. Otherwise I'd still be useing it, far more pleasant.

Wow, it's not only me that thinks the white version is the best one for at work, haha.

Also, MTGS logo does look dull to be honest. Has it always been the same since MTGS launch?

To be honest 100$ first prize in addition to the other prizes with only 18 players is amazing. I don't get why you are complaining really, I'd love that. Not to mention it is a competitive event, not an FNM. Top heavy payouts is the way to go at competitive events.

Whether they put a deck in Competitive or Developing Competitive wont change how good the deck is. I am looking forward to the new forums though. I'm sick of cards like SoBaM being suggested in U/B forums etc etc.

    Burning Oil

Ive drafted this a few times and it seems solid, If we are in a mid range r/w strategy can we play this?

The condition on it barely matters I think the biggest problem would be birds and such I guess.

I think the real drawback is the fact it cant dome but on the other hand a second use out of it is pretty handy.

Whats the verdict on this card... is it that there is no real deck for it or is it just not better than incinerate.

That's the key there. I drafted Mind Control, Serra Angel and don't forget that Sacred Wolf+Trollhide combo. Good cards in draft are COMPLETELY different from constructed. I mean look at delver, he's usually pretty bad in draft.

Card is cool I guess but I'd rather run incinerate if I was red for the reach.

I just dug something up towards the blanket statement that "Ponder is terrible in UB" which is as helpful as ChannelFireball articles that can be shortened into "play better". (I like Shearer because he writes useful stuff.)

You have a nuanced reasoning which I can only applaud and agree with.

In both posts in this thread I explained my reasoning.

Also completely agree with TylerDC in this thread.

In regards to those two cards, I would run Tribute to Hunger any day(I have 1 mainboard and 1 sideboard). Instant speed, Life gain, Reusable with Snapcaster? What is not to love?

Lili on the other hand is sorcery speed. Where's the fun in that?

Your argument against Jace is flawed. Very, very flawed. He cost less than a titan and is arguably more threatening.

Yes you have to tap 5 mana for him, and that leaves you @ a disadvantage in a counter war. Well, it happens. Your opponent drew more counters, and whether or not you tapped for a jace or for a titan, you would lose that war all the same. So there is no argument there.

You're also assuming Jace will be played into counter magic. Negative Ghostrider. What if they tapped out for their fatty, you won the counter war, and are untapping to their clear board?

You said if they tap for a Jace, you tap right back for a fatty, no?

If you do that in a game against me thinking your titan, a creature, will last longer than my jace, a planeswalker, I'll laugh in your face and Go for the Throat or Tragic Slip your titan, and watch you squirm as you get milled.

I will resolve a Jace against you if you have that kind of mentality. Just throwing that out there right now.

You are wrong and make it look like you have no idea what you are talking about, not to mention it looks like the entire post was written from your high horse to make condescending remarks to Holy Llama.

Yes you have to tap 5 mana for him, and that leaves you @ a disadvantage in a counter war. Well, it happens. Your opponent drew more counters, and whether or not you tapped for a jace or for a titan, you would lose that war all the same. So there is no argument there.

The fact that you expect someone to actually try to resolve a titan in a control vs control matchup, specifically UB vs UB shows me you don't really know the match up at all.

You're also assuming Jace will be played into counter magic. Negative Ghostrider. What if they tapped out for their fatty, you won the counter war, and are untapping to their clear board?

Then your opponenet is really bad and you could probably win that match up with playing a single flying men.

If you do that in a game against me thinking your titan, a creature, will last longer than my jace, a planeswalker, I'll laugh in your face and Go for the Throat or Tragic Slip your titan, and watch you squirm as you get milled.

I'd probably rather not play against such a rude opponent to be honest, but anyways. You DO NOT win control match ups with creatures. If you are, either your opponent is really really bad or you are running some creature heavy variant of U/B.

I will resolve a Jace against you if you have that kind of mentality. Just throwing that out there right now.

With your lack of understanding in the mirror match up, I highly doubt your Jace(s) would do much.

Jace is a good card, can be used effictively. Just not sure which match ups to use him in but as Holy Llama said using him in the Mirror is a waste of a card.

It's only FNM, it doesn't really matter.

Planeswalker Points, seriously. I need money to go to events now to be able to be competitive. I was 50th in my country on DCI Total now I'm below 3000th.

    Quote from mandelbrot
Combo isn't fun. Have you ever played Type 1? It's as non interactive as it gets. I would have been really proud if I had discovered a game breaking combo, but in this day and age, with netdecking rampant, you don't get to discover anything; someone else has already done it for you.

Now think how boring it is to play an unbeatable combo deck with your friends. You play it once or twice and you win. The opponent has no answer. Would you play it again? You'd be as bored as he is.

Now think if an all winning combo deck hits tournaments. We would have two decks: the combo deck and decks designed to beat the combo deck. Not very interesting, is it?

Combos are nice as a novelty: "Look what I've discovered". But playing it more than once, or far worse being dominant in competitive play is bad for the game.

But kudos to anyone who discovers a sick combo, in a combo hating environment, and wins a tournament with it. But it will be boring as hell afterwards.

I don't know about you but I think combo is fun to play with/against. And I think it is more interactive than Aggro is in the current standard. Hell, splinter twin was more interactive with my U/B control than RDW/Goblins.

Couldn't agree with Morimacil's post more.
