So guys, why you got the Ad Nauseam and friends package, and Doomsday, but not Necrologia?

Revisiting the board for the first time in a long time.
Sadly, I think City getting nuts on price has pushed my version of the deck out of budget range Frown

I was giving it some thought on the way to a pre-prerelease event (4-0 no bombs). and whipped up an earlier brew, made the mistake about not thinking through original land base and sideboard, but was overall happy. Only getting shut down by a RW superfirends deck that ran main board chalice and bloodmoon, and yes, turn 2 chalice for one, turn 3 bloodmoon game one.

I spoke about Lotus cobra in a lot. In the past is made not having and amulet of vigor easier to win, and having both a faster win.

    Turn 1:
    Mine; Tribe scout

    Turn 2:
Mine for an amulet; karoo land for cobra; Tribe scout for karoo for 2G for and Asuza; Play the karoo land 2 more time producing 4GG; play a primeval titan and search for teetering peaks and the Slayers' stronghold; add RW with the cobra triggers and tap the stronghold for the haste and giving now +4/0 tot the titian; Swing: with the land triggers get a Sunhome and vesuva copying teetering peaks; add RW with cobra and tap the two teetering peaks; give the titan an additional +2/0 and double strike. You have 12/6 Vigilance, Haste, Trample, double strike Primeval titan that can deal 24 damage... turn 2.

Even without a cobra, you can get the mana for a turn 3-4 kill. Getting the 6 mana rather than the 5 turn 3 s really relevant IMO.

It DOES make it more cannon, less control. You can technically double down adding Journey of discovery and sleight of hand and or a Skyshroud Ranger. Cobra does allow you to play through a blood moon and generate your off-color mana much more consistently.

What do you think? I know the board needs work. I am going to take it out to play next week. I did go 1-3 at FNM, mostly due to not seeing a 3rd or 4th land in several turns. (I lasted 7 turns against infect due to no green source, I grabbed ALL the colorless and blue mana and spellskites and counter spells. I missed by turn 8 and I swung, I had him at 2 ***KAHN!!!***).

    Cobra!! Grin
Sorry, just reminiscing about when me and this dude were brewing a non-titan version of this that comboed with Tooth and Nail into Patron of the Moon and Hedron Crab. Loooooong time ago, just after the switch to modern.
Haven't been playing magic for a good long while, decided to check out the forums. Still love this deck <3

    Forgive the offtopicness.

    Sorry for double post...
So, I forgot I had this log from a few months ago, where I got a Godhand against Belcher. Game 2, lost the first one, and usually belcher is just faster so i figured I was screwed unless i aggressively mulled into some Silence. But then I saw this starting hand (2x petal, SS, Crop, 2x Skycloud Egg, and City of Traitors), said "screw it", and went for a turn 1. And it worked! (guy got pissed and left before i was done, no game 3) Here's the log, stripped of chat stuff:

There is a large contingent that agrees with you, and the official position is it could provide too much mana too fast.

That seems kinda odd to me. The only decks that could make use of it aren't backbreaking in the slightest. Oh well, official stance is official stance I guess.

...I know this may sound odd, but in what deck does metalworker strike anyone as degenerate, and not just "strong"? Has it been discussed? Is it just a matter of insta-kozi?

I honestly threw this into trice, and immediately fished a random turn 6 combo i didn't realize I had until after laying down a pentavus and making a few tokens(Enabled by kurkesh + Gilded Lotus + Clock of Omens + Pentavus, playing Trading Post and drawing into Pyrite Spellbomb from there).

    I... I think I'm in love Pweeeeease?

I use Cephalid Coliseum. I also run 1 copy of Abeyance to use before drawing them out. Coliseum is also very good dig early on. I have maniac in the sideboard. My full list is a couple posts up, I haven't changed any cards since.

Also, the wayfarer is there as a way to guarantee you won't get your coliseum stuck in hand, but also provides mana accel with a vein/city in hand. Tinderwall is still more consistent at this, so that's why the numbers are 1 and 3. 1 or 2 GSZ is both as a 4th/3rd copy of tinderwall/wayfarer, and helps the deck reach a critical mass of shufflers to stir up the baubled sunrises/rotations.

Ring as a fetchable answer to hatebears? Solid idea, I like it. The only hiccup being that, it might not be usable early enough if you are facing hatebears.dec, or Ux tempo decks. Plus, rotating into it versus that style of deck can end up being a huge loss of tempo for you, so use it with caution. Last thing you want to do is go down a rotation and a land without profiting from it.

Well, I haven't tried the 2-mana lands method with sculptor, nor seen it outside the riddlesmith setup. My version just uses horizon canopy for colored mana requirements. Everything I need to cast before going off requires green, and canopy is basically an expensive egg in addition to being a mana source for this purpose. Whatever you are facing, tune the deck to handle that. I notice you have barbarian ring, tendrils, maniac in MD. My experience tells me these are unnecessary, but in a social setting, having wincons that cut down on the game time is a personal decision. If I was you, I'd move tendrils, ring, and maniac to the side, and go +3 sculptor to test if you like him in there. Figure out how it affects your numbers first, then decide what you can cut to put the other wincons back in if you want. Also, I'd cut gemstones and add in 1 or 2 horizon canopies/cephalid coliseum if you don't plan on keeping sculptor. Good targets for wayfarer/crop rotation.

^ He also steals peoples mana rocks easily. As for his inclusion here, I'd say it's more about the direction you want to go with the deck. In a control heavy build with a tight combo package, he seems perfectly fine.

Feligree Sages + Power Artifact/Training grounds = Infinite mana a lot of different ways with this deck. It's the same thing as the monolith combo's except you're replacing Sydri with the sages.

I know it's squishy as well but so would be the animated monoliths.

...and Heartstone. Basalt combos are funny.

    I am PISSED

...that you made this thread before i got to >:(
Been way too busy, but yeah, been brewing up this guy whenever i could since he got spoilered.

I also use Mike, and I use puppeteer clique and Trikey. But also KCI to sac them (as well as animating artifacts to sac them and get them back). This is a fun way to get double duty out of mana rocks, or... a very interesting way to abuse ETB triggers *eyebrow waggle*. Nobutseriously, KCI was only a pet card in the original Karn deck. Here, it is legit scary.

I'm not done brewing the list to where I'm happy with it, I know it can be better. The gist of what I have is a Karn stax shell crammed together with a sharuum list, and the glue that holds them together is the inf combos they share. I'll post it up when I'm done.

It's too bad there isn't a black or white City of Solitude. That would be so damn tech with this general D:

OH WAITAMINUTE. Yes there is. Grand Abolisher($3). Course, they could always take out the abolisher... but with how much reanimating you do, it's bound to be annoying for them. Still, would be nice to have this on a non-creature...

Oh. Just add Lifeline($1), though i guess that has some disynergy with your general strategy of getting rid of/stealing your opponents dead creatures. Course, there's always Twilight Shepherd($2) for returning wrath victims to hand, but that's not as good as back on the field =\ Cauldron of Souls($2) and Mikaeus, The Unhallowed($3) are probably your best options for mass reviving your own creatures multiple times.

Also, you seem to have a large amount of mana symbols on your cards. Would Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx($9) be an option? Along with Deserted Temple($4), Vesuva($7), Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth($12), and Thespian's Stage(<$1) so you can double up on the mana with redundancy or copy a coffers/cradle/etc.

Some synergistic mana makers would be Black Market($5), Crypt of Agadeem(maybe. 25cents), Skirge Familiar(pennies), Carnival of Souls(pennies), and Nirkana Revenent($10) I guess.

Some card draw I think works well with your setup would be Well of Lost Dreams($3), Graveborn Muse(<$1), Infernal Tribute(<$1), Slate of Ancestry(<$1), Decree of Pain($4), or Thought Gorger(pennies).

Grave Defiler would be sweet if you ran a more zombie heavy build.

On the reanimation front, I'd suggest Crucible of Worlds($20), Unholy Grotto($5), Volrath's Stronghold($14), and Tortured Existence(<$1) as a nice secondary reanimation suite that doesn't cut into your existing design space too much. Ostensibly stays in flavor too, I'd wager. Some of those are a bit pricier, but Unholy Grotto and Tortured Existence are likely auto-adds here. If you want, adding in some juice for the existence would be an interesting idea. Say... Golgari Thug(<$1), Undead Gladiator(<$1), Veilborn Ghoul(pennies)... or Oversold Cemetary($4) as a non-creature option that's just dandy by itself (and you can definitely support it here with this shell + a few more 'sac for profit' stuff thrown in like Skullclamp($2), Sadistic Hypnotist(<$1), Infernal Tribute(<$1)(again), etc).

Phyrexian Reclamation(pennies) is another option, but since this is extort, and you'd rather be casting stuff, Maybe Grim Harvest(pennies) or Disturbed Burial(pennies) is better, now that I think about it. At least one of these to go along with your mass-reanimation/return to hand suite seems legit.

I have no idea why Sedraxis Alchemist is in this deck, other than he is a zombie (zombie wizard, YUS!). Cremate seems kinda pointless. If you need the effect that bad, profit off of it with Necromancer's Covenant. Mourning Thrull is a hold out from the previous shell that seems like good early pressure, but should probably be removed for something with a bit more utility, such as Bitterblossom($15), Blood Artist($2)(sucks that it doesn't hit everyone, vengeful dead being the reluctant replacement), Bloodghast($4), etc. Zombies are great at coming back. Run stuff like Syphon Flesh, Innocent Blood, Barter in Blood, Small Pox, etc.

If you are more interested in the full on "lifelink in the skies" sorta deal with the warhammer, you should probably include some more life-linking equipments, auras, enchantments (True Conviction lol), or creatures that bestow lifelink on your whole field(like Victory's Herald(pennies), though it is quite mana/color intensive), or even cards that give you perks for gaining life, such as Archangel of Thune and Rhox Faithmender(maybe). I mean this in that, including lifelink would be more effective if the card that has the effect, gives it to all your creatures, or does extort, or synergizes in some other way, so that you don't waste design space.

Also, No Mercy has never functioned how I envisioned it should =\ I'd rather just run Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts(pennies) even at 3 more mana. If it works for you and your playgroup, then keep truckin' i guess.

I see you also have Grave Betrayal and Debtors Knell. Along with mikaeus and cauldron (again), there's also Sheoldred, Whispering One($4), Puppeteer Clique($3), or Balthor the Defiled($2) would be interesting.

Cards I think you wouldn't miss, or are easily replaced with one of the above similar spells: Quest for the gravelord, faith's fetters, pillory of the sleepless, Piranha Marsh, Leechridden Swamp, Cremate, Raise Dead, festering goblin, zombify, moan of the unhallowed, Soulless One, Maggot Carrier, Akroma Angel of Wrath, and Stromgald Crusader.

    To answer your initial queries:

    • Mana ramp in these colors
Non-artifact mana: Nirkana Revenant, Black Market, Carnival of Souls, Crypt of Agadeem, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Skirge Familiar, Magus of the Coffers, Soldevi Adnate, and the sac dudes, like Basal Sliver, Blood Vassal, Blood Pet,and Basal Thrull. There's Bog Witch as a one time skirge familiar that nets BB, and the black high tide, Bubbling Muck. There's also some land fetching stuff you might think about, like Eternal Dragon, Liliana of the Dark Realms, and Thawing Glaciers($5).

Given the above, I think artifact ramp is still your best bet. Get a sol ring($8) if you can afford it. They did just reprint them. There's a comprehensive list of artifact ramp stickied in the commander forum. You definitely want Skirge Familiar and Nykthos, though. Nykthos is a tad pricey for what I'm guessing is your limit.

    • Drawing multiple cards
I actually have a list I made of black draw that I keep around for reference. Not all of these are Budget:
Some of it's not actual draw, but lifegain --> draw is relevant here.

Here's some colorless multiple draw cards:
Again, not all of these are budget.

    • Making opponents or myself discard and then I draw

What, you mean Geth's Grimoire? Or more like Syphon Mind? I wish there were more syphon mind-type cards too. =<

Hope that at least a portion of this was useful to you.

edit: started making this post last night, then fell asleep lol
didn't realize 2 more posts were up. ^ Agree with that last guy completely. Also agree with Sun Titan, Necromancer's Covenant, Grave Titan, Expedition Map, and Syphon Flesh.

I also made an "all out" erebos list recently. Some things you might like:

First thing I noticed was there is no Illusionist's Bracers. If you do manage to get devotion, it turns erebos into "2 life + 2 mana = 2 cards". But, it also has amazing applications for ooze shenanigans. Which reminds me... where's the Workhorse for your mikaeus hijinks? At worst, he's a bad mana rock. Speaking of ooze and friends, Thousand-Year Elixir is perfect for immediate ooze and win. Another card to consider with all your creatures that come back to play from the gy is Dread Return. On that note, Codex Shredder is nice to have around.
Volrath's Sronghold does work here. I run more zombies than just mikaeus, so I also include Unholy Grotto in my build.

Necrologia. Basically necropotence, but as a spell. Which is fine, since the deck has ways of using open mana once you have enough cards in hand to just win, or at the very least, abuse a very large graveyard. Only downside is it doesn't stick around to give you 7 cards at the end of every turn. This is a 'go for it' card that I actually do run, but for it to work I also run...
    Shimmer Myr, and...
    Winding Canyons

Where I think we diverge most is the control:
I use Winter Orb, to sit alongside contamination, as well good ol...
Smokestack. You can use Braids or the abyss, as they are recoverable with xiao, but i prefer this relic to those two in this deck, personally. As far as sweepers go, Overwhelming Forces has been a nice decree #2. Easy way to turn 1 person at the table into a sitting duck for the rest.

Skirge Familiar, Puppeteer Clique, Increasing Ambition, Cavern of Souls, Thran Dynamo, Crypt Ghast and Basalt Monolith all seem like cards you either passed up, or gave up on because of space. Couldn't have been easy cuts, considering they are all either part of pretty major combo interactions or good ramp with this kind of setup. Also, why in a deck that's so hungry for black, would you opt for ashnod instead of phyrexian? You aren't including the deathmantle/nodach combo, so it's puzzling. Also, it seems like you included the devourer, but not the Disciple of Bolas to go with it. Bolas is good even by itself here. True, bolas doesn't do much on the ooze front, but he gets back life for more activations of erebos, and you have ways of recurring creatures. In a different deck, i run this same combo with Lich, and added Soul Conduit for a wincon. Also, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a card now. If you are going to include the other devotion dude, this might as well be here as cabal coffers #3. Candelebra is amazing in such a list, if you actually have one =< If only...

What I could think up off the top of my head. Love the list =) You play on trice at all?

^ yes, even though i usually stay away from school-themed stuff on principle. I gave the first episode a shot, and it's worth a slot on my list for the time being...
