I think this is where I give the disclaimer that my regular playgroup's highly...how do I say this. Competitive?
What should I be looking for from the past few expansions? Jarad's Orders seems to be a real stand-out card for this deck, and Abrupt Decay might fit (but more for 1v1 than the usual multiplayer). Did I miss any spectacular stuff Mimeo can use from the block that came before the current one (Innistrad)?
Plus, Triskelion's not going out anytime soon because the Phyrexian Devourer combo's my main (and most notorious) wincon. Putrefax has served me well enough and has earned his slot too; LoE is so-so (amazing in the late game, but I normally try to combo out as fast as I can), so he can probably go.
The deck performs pretty well so far! The biggest disadvantage is that my regular playgroup pretty much knows what my deck does so I'm always a target.
So. Aside from a set of Griselbrand, how else has the Reanimator deck been updated? I kinda lost track of the expansions and meta starting from M12's last two expansions (Avacyn Restored and Dark Ascension IIRC?).
It does what it sets out to do pretty well as far as actual play's concerned, and the counters really help in dealing with the inevitable hate. Currently looking to slot Desertion in, as well as the eventual Cryptic Command and if I'm fortunate, Force of Will.
Suggestions for the mana scheme? I know I need more of the stuff that makes two colors but I'm forgetting specific card titles. The Hermit Druid combo build is an option but acquiring a proper suite of lands for that'd probably put my grandchildren into dept.
Hmm...made a buncha changes to this deck, mostly adding more consistency to the manabase and tossed black Mikaeus in. Would several changes warrant a new thread or should I just update this one? It's still pretty much the same gameplay (combo deck with some counters and instant answers to threats).
Any suggestions for other combos I could swap in for the infect stuff? My deck's developing a steadily growing hatedom at the local stores for the infect stunts I pull (the Triskelion/Devourer Ooze not so much since it can run out of gas and mill me to death on occasion).
I'm currently pondering some sorta infinite mana shenanigans like Pili-Pala + Palladium Myr = Oona or Ambassador Laquatus but I'm uncomfortable with that essentially being a four-card combo (the two artifact dudes under Necrotic Ooze for infinite mana, then Oona/Laquatus as the wincon) and from experience, combos made up of more cards are easier to disrupt.
I think one of the most important aspects of having a deck that qualifies as "competitive" is not so much the spells in the deck, but having a land base that comes into play untapped in order to maintain a fast tempo and clock. Competitive play is fast, and not being able to cast something because of a land coming into play tapped is often the difference between winning and losing.
IMO, the following 12 lands should be in every tier 1 BUG build:
Cool, I'm actually working on getting Yavimaya Coast and Underground River. The tr00 kvlt original duals will probably wait until later into 2012 when I've managed to save up, since despite the price tags they're a good investment (since they can easily be sold for instant cash in times of need).
Why hasn't anyone suggested Mephidross Vampire yet? Am I missing something about his supposed classic combo with Triskelion?
Any other wincons I could pop into the deck that key off Necrotic Ooze copying the a coupla dudes a la Devourer/Triskelion? It's a sure-kill once it goes off and all but I'd like to have an option that doesn't blow my entire deck out (so Hermit Druid shenanigans are outta the question). This is also so I have potential swap-outs for the Putrefax/Skittles + Big Dude infect shenanigans since the aforementioned combos are developing a small hatedom for my deck at the local store.
I prefer wincons that involve as few cards as possible. The Devourer combo might look like it uses a lot but it really only needs a discard-fetch engine like Fauna Shaman or Survival in play along with Necrotic Ooze. Meanwhile the infect wins are effectively a two-card combo with the commander and Buried Alive.
I take it instead of simply loading up on trolls the deck's gonna be more about resilience and having means to reassemble Thruntron in case shenanigans are pulled on his bling?
Any way to edit the thread title itself and remove that misleading 'budget' part? I realized long ago (and lampshaded a page or two ago) that I long abandoned that clause in building this deck.
So I decided to see if a literal troll-themed deck is possible. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is gonna be my casual fun deck so a lot of cards that could be here (i.e. Sol Ring) are in my Mimeoplasm (see sig), though I'm allowing a few cards to repeat where they're not that hard to acquire (i.e. Krosan Grip).
I guess the idea's to go Voltron on the commander but with the possibility of going Voltron on any of the other trolls in case something really bad happens? I haven't really given this deck much thought yet (and would appreciate either a lot of suggestions or a link to a working budget Thrun decklist).
Also lemme know if any of the stuff I'm looking at for the deck ain't too budget at all.
Do note that after developing a small hatedom for my Mimeoplasm deck's combo trickery within my circles of EDH-playing friends, I'm looking to build a deck that's just simple fun but still gets to keep up with everyone else at the multiplayer table.
Still don't have a Voidslime and that's the only reason he's not in the deck. I might drop either a Forest or a Swamp in favor of an extra Island to better facilitate the counters.
I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what counters go in there -- specifically, I've got Negate and Mystic Snake in my toolbox right now ready for swapping with any of the others. I'm also surely dropping one or more of those for FoW and Pact of Negation if I ever acquire those, along with the aforementioned Voidslime and maybeDesertion and/or Stifle.
Since it's going more for a controller build would it be appropriate to add in some of the other cards I usually see in control EDH decks such as Bribery, Time Stretch or Walk the Aeons?
It's been pointed out that my manabase is a bit too 'greedy', a.k.a. I have way too many lands that cost me life. To address that I'm thinking of cutting out even more utility lands (i.e. Nephalia Drownyard and maybe Mystifying Maze) in favor of adding in some more basics. I'm also considering dropping the Vivid lands entirely for either more basics or a few more spells since the Necrotic Triskelion Devourer combo deals noticeably less damage with the all-around lower CMCs in the deck.
All in all though, I'm liking the feel of having counters in the deck. It really feels like that was what I've been missing for the months that I've been playing it.
The Quicksilver Amulets are there as a derpy possible solution to GY-bombing, though I'm considering replacing those with Ratchet Bombs once I can acquire some. The Buried Alive and Dark Rit in the SB are just filler; one of those will very likely become the fourth Nev's Disk and the other will be...some other utility creature.
Funeral Charms replaced the Pimps because hey, they're instant and in a pinch a pump or swampwalk could be useful. Terastodon is getting switched out for Angel of Despair and Blazing Archon for Empyrial Archangel eventually.
Yep, Voidslime's definitely on my priority acquisitions list. What a counter!
I'd like some suggestions on more wincons to throw in (that don't involve infinite mana shenanigans, hopefully). Pumped Putrefax/Skittles can only kill so many people in a multiplayer game, and from the playtests so far I've learned that the counters have reduced the CMCs in the deck all-around; the Necrotic Devourer/Triskelion combo's only consistent at killing two other players. Previously the high costs in the deck had it capable of offing the whole table, but the lack of counters made it easy for people to simply steamroll me whenever I'd start so much as hinting towards being a threat. I'm thinking of dropping the old Teferi plus Knowledge Pool lock in here, for starters.
Incidentally a friend suggested that I put in Leyline of Anticipation while I'm thinking of putting in Faerie Trickery as a duplicate Dissipate (say that really fast twenty times). Amidoinitrite?

Err, it looks like you're looking at the way outdated version of the deck. I put up the latest incarnation in the post right before yours.
