Value wise, I'm sure it's looking heavy red due to the money cards but I'm MOST interested myself in playing Green with Freyalise. I was already planning on building up an elf deck around her, despite most people leaning towards Ezuri, but after seeing the rest of the deck list it's almost everything I wanted anyway. A bunch of different ways to help those elves she spits out become better. Her ultimate is something I REALLY want to get to but it's not something that's so broken that you HAVE to make it there. There's a fair amount of card draw built into the deck already which is awesome for green, and I have to say that with all the elves and wolves being spit out, I'm MOST excited about Green's Lt. in Thunderfoot Baloth. I also like Siege Behemoth forcing through your teams damage, shutting down selective removal with Hexproof built in. And when all your elves die out? Grave Sifter is there to put it back into my hand Grin

Green also has the secondary new General I'm most excited to play as well in Titania.

After that, I'd say I'm stoked about the White deck with Nahiri but that's because her story was awesome and she knows Sorin who, though I'm a green mage at heart, is my favorite planeswalker easy. That guy is awesome. I started paying attention to magic again in Zendikar after dropping out after Kamigawa and I loved aggro decks and white weenies. I loved the way the Kor looked and the heavy amount of them in the white deck has me very excited (EDIT Heavy amount as in the Planeswalker making them and the spell just conjuring an army of them for you. Not ACTUAL cards). However, I will say Nahiri's ultimate is a bit weak since any "exile artifact" makes your hard work wasted.

I'm sure people love the red deck but I hate Artifact Creatures and heavy artifact decks that aren't just equipment so ... it's kind of a no go for me.

The more I look at Freyalise, the less I like her.
It seems like the threat of a Naturalize is her main draw.
Speaking of draw- why does she have a -6 that is very arguably worse than Garruk, Primal Hunter's -3?

I would have made her more like this:
+2- put a 2/2 Llanowar Elf token into play (it's a small change but definitely an improvement)
-1- Naturalize (Or Bramblecrush at -2 or -3)
-6- You get an Emblem with "Whenever a (Green?) creature ETB under your control, draw a card."

    Oh well.

As for your first change, there are elf decks that could easily make this come down as a 2/2 if not a 3/3 or more.
As for your second, Bramblecrush is too heavy since it straight up kills EVERY other Planeswalker commander. I could see it being reduced to a -1 though.
And as for your Emblem, I can also get on board with that perhaps. I don't like the straight up "Draw some cards" that much either but I think she really does have potential if you can protect her.

Ok I went to Friday Night Magic for the first time and it did not go swimmingly well. Here is the deck I used.

So I went 2-5, winning my first 2 matches and losing my last 3. First two matches were against Mardu Goblin Dudes and that went well enough, getting good on board control with bigger dudes and keeping their side stalled even when they did get creatures out. Siding in Arbor Colossus helped against that flying demon.

My 3rd match was against a mirror of sorts, mono green but I guess I'm still new and he knew just what he was doing that I still lost 0-2.

4th was against the Mardu Goblin thing again and went 1-2 on that one. That one got working both times really well, the first game the guy having 3 of those Rabblemasters so I was just dead. Mana screwed a bit but just didn't have any reach.

5th game was against a Jeskai midranger/control deck and went 0-2 there as well.

The Jeskai deck my BIGGEST problem was the 3/3 haste guy that kept slapping me. I'm not sure if I just got bad draw's, if I'm still too new and bad with it, or if they deck needs to be tweaked. Currently, I'm leaning towards splashing black and putting in some of those Doomwake Giants for helping to clear those pesky goblins. I noticed lack of card draw really hurt after awhile. Surprisingly, Nissa did me little good so I'd be fine dropping her to 2 to help make room.

    You mean 2-3, right?

How was Chord of Calling for you?

Against Jeskai you need Arbor Colossus main, but even then it's still a bad matchup.

Yeah, sorry, 2-3 I suppose is the correct way to word it. Still green and all that, heh.

As for Jeskai, I might have stood a better chance if I had ever pulled 1 of the 3 mistcutter hyrda if their answers are either countering it or Jeskai Charm. At least then I could somewhat race them? Splashing Black or more solid red seems where I need to go so far but I don't think either help me against Jeskai.

Was it just a typo Kastion, or do you really not have Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in the deck? Nykthos is the engine that runs the machine, so that's a huge place to start if you're improving the deck.

I'm also not a big fan of Chord in Green Devotion decks, it doesn't synergize that well with our plan, and it doesn't actually increase our threat density, which is our biggest struggle usually. Eidolon of Blossoms is a fine card, but you need more enchantments to properly support it. Going G/b for Doomwake Giant is definitely an option. I'd want at least 12 enchantments to fuel Constellation, more is preferable. (Ross Merriam's G/b deck had 13 main plus a SB Pharika)

If you go the other obvious splash route, G/R, then you get access to Xenagos, which to be fair isn't great against Mantis Rider but is decent against a variey of other decks, and acts as more copies of Nykthos for ramping fast and early. More importantly, you get access to red Burn spells, namely Crater's Claws, which can answer problems like Mantis Riders, planeswalkers, and Rabblemasters, but can also close a game against a midrange or control opponent when you are allowed to get your mana engine online.

But definitely get those Nykthoses in there first!

Yes, it was just a typo, sorry. I was trying to think off the top of my head what was in there but yes, running all four Nykthos and I'll edit my listing to show that.

So yeah, the option is between G/b or splashing a bit heavier Red for the obvious like you said for Xenagos and DEFINITELY crater's claw. There were several games that I still lost that I had the optiohn for 14+ mana. SO that was like 15 damage STRAIGHT to the face that would have finished a game off. For our devotion deck, it really does seem to have great reach. However, Doomwake is still a big body with an upside of putting -1/-1 to the opponent, killing goblin tokens and sometimes MORE if I get another enchantment to go down with it.

How do we feel about splashing white? I've been thinking a lot about it and Ajani, Mentor of Heroes does almost everything Garruk did for us. We're missing a green mana symbol and we can't play something directly from our hand but usually he was just card drawing more than anything. Plus the three +1 counters distributed can make our many mana dorks into a tiny army if you don't wanna draw. We could also pick up Fleecemane Lion in the deal

Not good at this sort of thing and not sure if it's the right forum to throw it under, but I'm sitting on the Planeswalkers right now from SDCC and intent only to keep Nissa and the Axe, while selling the other five. I guess my question is, did the 2013 Walkers rise in price as time went on or is what each of the 2014 guys going for now about what to expect them to lean towards? I know it's not hard science and anything could happen but outside help is appreciated.

    Quote from SAUS9001
The deck with "screw politics" is the most powerful deck. I was pplaying my Tajic deck so it was literally a 1v1 where I had a handicap. The guy who played the curse is fairly new to my group.

Which again makes no sense why you would be upset. If you're viewing it as a 1v1 WITH a handicap and you lose then ... well that makes sense. Even in your own view you had a handicap so no big deal. You did as well as you could with said handicap, it wasn't enough, so be it.

Next time just explain you'd want a real 1v1 next time instead of bringing on a chaos element as a 3rd wheel.

Personally, I enjoy the political cards but I am newer to Commander/EDH (just got in on the 2011 precons). I don't play too seriously and for people like me, they're a lot of fun and helps to focus the attention on someone else (which, at least in my mind's eye, doesn't seem like a "newbie" only thing you'd want to do).

It is a matter of perspective I suppose and everyone probably has their own feeling of what the spirit of EDH is. Some people love tutors and making their decks basically work like Standard or Modern or what have you where its very similar steps each time.

Some people are super casual and just want to slam 100 cards into a deck and see what happens. Luckily the two groups don't have to play together. I'm super casual myself and I've often enjoyed buying new Commander boxes and just playing them as is for months with others doing the same. Everyone wins by playing with likeminded people.

I haven't even used him yet but I'm pretty sure its going to be Oloro. Not only is his card pretty good but his art looks amazing. Plus he's bald so I respect/represent that.

    Guys:

So ... maybe the next year's Commander might be only Two colored generals?

    ... that might be cool.

Or it might just be they'll include them next year. Don't know if they'd try just a Dual colored generals in something like this but mayhaps.

Oloro still. I don't like artifacts and was glad when he was spoiled that he wasn't built as an artifact general. Plus he looks amazing in his art.

Love the card! I might have to pick him up and start playing EDH because of him.

Question though. He's not the one who's dealing the life loss correct? So you CAN'T win off general damage with him is that right?

He IS the one doing the damage BUT General damage HAS to be done through actual Combat Damage AKA turning the bad boy sideways (Unless he has vigilance >_> )

So although he's hitting the player, it's only taking it off the big 40 starter life and not the 21 commander one

What if you tap to cast spells before attacks, and then get all that mana back after combat for more spells or hold up for countermagic? Or combine with Opposition, Tangle Wire, Static Orb, etc.

Mind blanked on the fact you can UNTAP stuff ... wow ... I'll be going now.

Just got so caught up with people talking about locking opponents down.
