  • posted a message on Tournament Announcement: Charity Tournament for Club Shinning Stars
my wife founded an organization called Club Shinning Stars which provides recreational and educational activities for individuals with special needs and their families. We started this in 2012 as a facbook group and has now grown into a full blown 501-3C charity organization that is affiliated with the Downs Syndrome Association in Nortwest Indiana. We both have personal reasons why we started this we have two special needs children, One very high functioning autistic, the other has Cerebal Palsy, Autism, and is thus far non-verbal among other issues this community has been great support for us and other families like ours in this area. A local store has been kind enough to host a MTG day at their store with a portion of the proceeds going to Club Shinning Stars, I will give a run down of what we are doing as well as links to the event and out facebook page following. Thanks for reply, Vegas. So, is Deadguy still competitive deck? Do you have good results with it in this metagame?

Yes it is competitive, but is it one of the best choices right now, probably not but I and others in here are trying to find the optimal build, once that happens then I think this can be answered more fully. I think the disruption package gives you game against almost anything, but I don't feel like you have any free wins, which going into a big tourney it is nice to have a few. I do feel it has good matchups and bad ones.

Can mr Bob still be used in this deck? and if so whats the best list for him?

I've got the same question ^^ Is Bob still core of the deck, when Delver and Burn go crazy?

I wouldn't use him right now too many decks running burn packages that make him a big liability right now.

@Vegas10: Are you tried Orzhov Pontiff??, seems very good this days.

I personally like Zealous Persecution better, being an instant it can make combat real one sided or punch through surprise damage for the win, but I could definitely see trying pontiff out in the SB as a 1 or 2 of.

Tournament report from a PTQQ today (Made T4), a bit different take on the deck as I have been experimenting with many things will have comments after report, but first my list. Sorry not good at formatting could use help with that.

    [ deck ]
    # card name
    [ /deck ]

Remove the spaces in [ deck ] and you're in business. You can also type out the deck, highlight the list, and click the "Deck" button in your editing tool bar. Here's what it looks like done. If you hit the "quote" button, you can see what I've done to your list.

    Thanks for the tourney report!

Sweet thanks for the tip will try to do it in the future.

I have found that Tectonic Edge helps me win games more often than does vault, and with the amount of BB and WW needed for early plays in this deck I don't like going above 2 colorless lands, and 2 tec edges seem best. As far as both Baneslayer and more Lyelines I don't have them right now, though I have tested Baneslayer on MWS and Cockatrice in the past though that was with bob, but I always felt the 5 mana is a big ask in modern for a card that doesn't win immediately, however sure against burn it's awesome, as for leyline I could see maybe going to 2. I don't want to overside against burn since it isn't a huge part of the metagame like Delver or Pod are, I mean it is there but not in those numbers.

    1x Wrath of God
    1x Timley Reinforcements
    1x Zealous Persecution

    Tourney
    Rd1 U/R Delver (1-2) (0-1)
Game 1 he rolls me, Game 2 I rolls him, Game 3 in extra time on t5 he rips a bolt to flip delver and bolt me for the win, close game not getting a relic really hurt me here, double cruz.

    RD2 Scapeshift (2-0) (1-1)
G1 Sculler into INQ/Seize, into Sculler I crush with beathers
G2 More of the same plus edge to keep both inferno titans in his hand Hero FTW

    RD3 Pod (2-0) (2-1)
G1 Disruption curve IOK, Sculler, Lilana, Souls splcer beats and a well times PTE
G2 he kept a risky hand and got burned for it

    Rd4 Rogue Mill deck (2-1) (3-1)
G1 I brick hard he wins
G2 Close I kill him 1 turn before he mills me out, souls mvp
    G3 I crush Him

    Rd 5 RWU Geist (1-1-1) (3-1-1)
G1 I roll im again IOK, Sculler, Lily rock him
G2 He abuses me badly with Keranso but takes time
G3 we run out of time, but I was in trouble again active Keranos unfortunately IOK don't get him

    I make T8 (7th) on 3-2 got in

Scapeshift, deck reg error cost him game 1
    Game 2 he rolls me
Game 3 he punts badly, forgot he didn't have enough mountains left in deck to kill me or even activate valakut I guess, so hero gets im next turn.

    T4 RWU Burn
G1 somehow I wim g1 for me in this is usually awful
G2 he gets real lucky td cruz and enough burn to kill me at the same time turn before
    I would have had him
    G# he rolls me
Never drew any Firewalkers so a bit unlucky

    comments
Sideboard is a work in progress partially due to cards I own
Would have played 3 lily's if I had 3, very good all day
Kitchen Finks and Restoration angel underwhelmed though that combo did help game 1 vs burn
Night's Whisper was decent for gas, but did side at least 1 out almost always and sometimes 3 or 4
Batterskull did nothing but get broken
Sculler was very good for the most part
RWU control seems very tough to beat without a lily
I have played variations of this deck off and on for a bit, have tried things like rats and bobs before etc, was trying a different angle a bit since quite frankly since cruz/dig entered the format this deck has all but vanished even in the small margins it was before.
Burn is bad game 1 and needs a lot to make the matchup pretty good hence the amount of space for it, though firwalker was ok against scapeshift and prob is against delver, for having 3 of these whenever I boarded I never saw them really. Any thoughts or input or questions would be appreciated.

I played the following to a 2-2-1 , in SCG Modern Premier IQ in Indianapolis, I will give a breakdown and my thoughts after the list.
    Creatures:
    4x Dark Confidant
    4x Pack Rat
    3x Kitchen Finks
    3x Blade Splicer
    3x Restoration Angel
    3x Tidehollow Sculler

    Spells
    4x Thoughtseize
    3x Inquistion of Kozilek
    3x Lingering Souls
    4x Path to Exile
    1x Smother
    1x Doom Blade

    Lands
    1x Vault of the Archangel
    3x Tectonic Edge
    4x Marsh Flats
    4x Godless Shrine
    2x Isolated Chapel
    1x Caves of Kolios
    1x Fetid Heath
    1x Urborg, tomb of Yawgmoth
    3x Plains
    2x Swamp
    1x Arid Mesa
    1x Verdant Catacombs

    Sideboard
    1x Leyline of Sanctity
    3x Kor Firewalker
    2x Stony Silence
    2x Disenchant
    2x Wrath of God
    2x Relic of Progentus
    2x Shadow of Doubt
    1x Zealous Persecution

    Matches
    Rd1 Waste Not (1-0)
G1 he rips my hand, drops double rack, however I do see oblibterator, so I side in wraths, plus leyline and Disencants
    G2 I beat him down
G3 Leyline in opening hand, he plays double obliterator (too greedy) I wrath and smoke him

    Rd2 Kikki-Pod (1-1)
G1 I Keep a slightly risky hand he combos me out
G2 I catch his fetch with t2 shadow, wrath his 2 mana dorks, he chords for another, I also break Pod before he can Pod, but only had a finks to beat with never drew another beater till too late, I got pretty unlucky here.

    Rd3 (1-1-1) Elves
G1 his hand is fast but I hold him off and start beating with angel, however he eventually draws Pact and hoofs me (long game 1)
G2 I wrath is dorks crush him
G3 I again kill his dorks, but we run out of time I was going to be able to kill him on my next turn

    Rd4 (2-1-1) Junk
Pretty one sided I crushed him both games even though he had 3 lillys game 2, Angel + splicer really shined here.

    Rd5 (2-2-1) Rug/Twin
I got crushed here and prob miss boarded a bit admittedly I have played against UR twin a lot and this not so much, problem I had was I had to keep disrupting the combo, but then had no answer to huntmaster and Goyfs.

My own comments about the deck
I played finks because it helped improve the burn match up and was decent against affinity and junk/rock variants
however he was pretty terrible against Pod and Rug Twin prob should have sided him out rd 5
Pack Rat did nothing for me all day though mostly due to either getting killed of discarded
I only had a Bob in a keepable opening hand 1 time, and only ever dre 2 all day very unlucky in that regard
Wrath of God was my MVP in my sideboard
Changes I am considering if I stick with this deck
    Less rats (3)
reconsider running finks, prob 2 brimaz
Restoration Angel was very good I won every game I played it except the one that went to time, is the main reason I ran finks over Brimaz from the get go
Shadow of doubt while cute prob should be something else Lilly maybe, more removal possibly.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I also like that besides the Rug match up I felt the deck had game against pod eventhough I got beat I think I got pretty unlucky in game 2, I flooded bad and never drew another threat besides the 1 finks in my opener until I got a bob too late.

Where is the BNG patch? I do not really want to re-install the whole program for it.

What's wrong with using an installer (MWS EasyInstall)?

It will set up everything perfectly so that you have the latest updates of ALL components of MWS, not just the database ...

Simply just download (40mb which should take no more than 2 minutes of your time) and press "next" until the process is complete (maximum 2 minutes) ...

Does it just automatically replace my current version of MWS with the new one? And does it erase things like the decks I have and such?

    Pile A

    1x Xathrid Necromancer
    1x Stormbreath Dragon

    Pile B

1x FOIL Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Pile B for me, that will hold long term value much better.

I'm actually surprised Port hasn't seen another upswing after the initial one post-GP Strasburg. The deck has been (DnT) consistently placing in top 8's in the last few months, preys on decks like Storm and Sneak/Snow and has become one of the decks to beat really. As mentioned, its reliance on basics (vs fetches/duals) and the fact that the rest of the deck (apart from the lands) can be obtained for 100$ or less makes it a very appealing solutions for mages on a budget.

Agree with most of this, but DnT decks have had runs in the past (though maybe not to this level) then the meta seems to shift and make them go away again which could by why the rest of the cards are slow to rise.
