No one complains about protection from any color other then blue.

Actually I think pro red also gets a bit of complaints since red has the hardest time dealing with pro red. That's why uncounterable is usually added to pro blue since they have other avenues of dealing with it. But as long as something like Kor Firewalker never sees the light of day again pro red shouldn't be a huge issue.

I literally picked up magic shortly after that block rotated so I hadn't heard of that one but that's pretty sweet.

I guess what makes me mad is that every sphinx I've seen since I started playing magic always has lame drawbacks. This is like making angel of serenity a 5/1 or it costing 13 instead of 7.

Consecrated sphinx is a great limited card but I just wish they'd print a sphinx thats a bit closer to playable in standard. I just dont see this one getting to see much play if any.

Consecrated sphinx was one of the most powerful standard format cards of it's time, in a format with titans, jace the mind sculptor, and swords. Trust me drawing 2 to their 1 is ridiculously powerful and it was the perfect size to deal with everything else.

Exactly, they have different cast times, Sphinx at mid and aetherling late, use completely different resources to protect themselves, and sphinx leads well into aetherling with his scry 3.

Yep. If you have already declared attackers, and your opponent hasn't responded, then you can tap it. Or, in this case, leave it already tapped.

YES that's all I needed to hear, now the only question is, how many people are manly enough to run this and aetherling together in beautiful monobluedom?

Wow Savannah Lions with a tacky ability TACKED on? Card is actually unplayable.

Very unlikely I buy any Theros product.

Your definition of actually unplayable is so wildly foreign to me that I might have to call in a translator.

Based on the wording, does this mean that if it's already attacked you can still give it hexproof? If so then this card is pretty good. If not it's sadly mediocre. Scry 3 is a pretty scary number so I look forward to ripping this baby pack 1.

Your turn 6: Army of creatures, you also have Boros Reckoner with mana open.
Opponent's turn 6: Drop Elspeth. Resolve? You lose a reckoner and your board if you have nothing with power of 4 or higher. or you counter.

Read the card it's destroy all creatures power 4 or greater, like interpid hero.

While they both have the potential to add a lot of mana, they aren't that similar. Cabal Coffers awarded you for just playing lands and since WotC hasn't been high on LD for a long while it was hard to combat it. This requires you to have a critical mass of permanents on the board to abuse and therefore opponents have the ability to interact with/control it some.

Well obv different but fixed in the sense of a similarly designed effect, paying 2 and tapping to get a multitude of mana based on some deck build. And yeah Cabal's broke even if it's not tolarian broke.

I think WotC is going to regret printing that legendary land. From reading MaRo's columns in the past, he's been guilty of trying to "fix" broken cards from the history of Magic (Yawgmoth's Bargain being one he himself points out), and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx looks like an attempt at "fixing" Tolarian Academy. Imagine having it and Ral Zarek in play with a mostly U durdle control deck or something...

Um isn't it a fixed Cabal Coffers? And yes it is a deal worse though I love it all the same.

EDIT: Well even more specifically it could be considered an alternate Crypt of Agadeem but I'm bad with names and Cabal is sorta the first one that game to mind.

Elspeth is pretty boring but insanely solid. I'm not sure exactly what direction control takes but constant 3 1/1s is a force to watch out for, and the other abilities add flexibility.

Cerberus flavor is too strong!!!! Nigh unblockable and refueling on death makes this a real potential winner for red decks.

Both Bestows so far have been priced as 'slightly under costed Enchantment' + 'slightly over/par costed Creature'.

    '2/2 w/ Intimidate' for 4 + 'Enchanted Creature has +2/+2 & Intimidate' for 2
'4/4 w/ Flying & First strike for 5' + 'Enchanted Creature has +4/+4, Flying and First Strike' for 3

I really hope they have fun with this design space and make one that the Bestow cost is cheaper than just casting the creature. A 5 cost creature that Bestows for 3 perhaps? Basically a reverse Nantuko Shaman

Either way, Bestow will be amazing in Limited! You can go all in on one creature and when it gets killed you get dudes? Yes please!

Well if it had a lower bestow cost it'd need some kind of downside when it returns to a creature or something...but it'd be very fun nonetheless

Frankly I'm deathly afraid of this Lampad card, intimidate shouldn't be underrated and it'll probably win you the game alone if you bestow it. Overcosted for constructed is a definite but this mechanic should probably be nowhere near constructed level at common.

how are control decks going to utilize this card? It seems like the god cycle will all rely on "devotion to x" making this functionally the worst of all the god cards because control decks never have non-land permanents out. It would be one thing if the non-creature effects of this card were super helpful while it was not active, but paying 3 mana for an enchantment that scrys is definitely not worth it.

It could be this is another attempt to push control towards permanent based play instead of wholy spell/counterspell play. They've already succeeded in reducing counterspell play so I could see it happening.

Personally I agree with your statement that it's not fit for control, but I don't think this is trash either. It seems to be useful in something like midrange or a slower aggro build that wants to play something like sea gate oracle but doesn't mind giving up the body for something a little stronger down the road.

Oh please this card didn't kill token decks before and I'd argue tokens are way better now than during scars.

But maybe I'm biased cuz I freaking love this card and will be playing it in almost every deck I can squeeze it into.

    Quote from RichardHaro
    I have to agree

Rachet Bomb + Illness in the Ranks makes it hard for token decks to achieve anything

Imagine if your opponent goes turn 1 Illness and Turn 2 ratchet bomb, how do you even fight through that

Um, you laugh because they didn't play any actual cards then kill them with Loxodon Smiter? GW has the best creature pool in the game don't restrict yourself to just token producers and you'll be well on your way to creating a decent tempo deck. I just think good stuff decks are way better atm so a dedicated token strat isn't as effective as just combining lingering/conclave/advent with already good beats.

Skylasher, if only because flash/reach is a better trick than a potential 5/1 flier.
