My wife and I typically play @ a shop that produces from 12-20 players each Friday. I would say about ¼ of them are very (super) competitive and @ least half will play decks that are good enough to win consistently; the rest . . . kids or players experimenting. There are two other married couples that play and another couple of married couples that occasionally come and play.
For the entire months of November and December, there has been no entry fee to play. The caveat is all you can win are the Promo cards which go to the top 2 players, and then he raffles off two more promo cards. However, each night he orders 4 or 5 dominos pizzas for the players and usually between rounds one and two or two and three, we take a break to eat ‘free’ pizza (he does sell water and drinks).
Both my wife and I enjoy the atmosphere, even though sometimes it isn’t as competitive as other times. I have played in several ‘big’ tourneys and played MTG in Vegas and to tell the truth, it’s pretty nice looking forward to playing each Friday in a pretty non-pressure tourney that still has players with T1 and T2 decks. While I consistently get into the top 4, it really is no guarantee.
I live in the PHX area and have played in maybe 11 or 12 other shops here in AZ and honestly, am super pleased with ‘our’ shop.
I only open packs when in a tourney. All other packs are taken home to have the wife open them. When I rip a pack, it's invariably The Crap Rare.
When she opens it? It's always Freaking Awesome!
Best option is when I can get her to come to a Pre-Release just long enough to open my packs...:D
Same for me . . . I always bring all my winnings home for my wife to open. She also really enjoys seeing and readying the new red cards for her next burn deck.
That's all there is to it. Amazing What excuses the wizards apologists make up to sugar coat this greed.
They even turned duels of the planeswalkers into rubbish this year because it was too affordable
So . . . is it your belief Hasbro should become a not-for-profit company??? I sure hear a lot of people complain when a private company does something to either keep in business or make a profit. Besides the US gov, I don't know very many other organizations that strive to work at a constant loss.
I only played in one that was 22 people. In total there were 2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver pulled and a few other misc. Mythic cards . . . the total pool was pretty bad all around.
I have a strong feeling that the 'NEW' lands he is hinting around will be somehow greatly related to our new 'Devotion' ability. He did say that wont be as easy on the mana base so I can see something like....
Such and such card enders the battlefield tapped if your Devotion to white or blue is less then 1
Cheap is cheap . . .

Not Tri . . . and green, it seems.
This idea seems very possible.
