Ok, so I recently did the Theros prerelease (since this is the first set I've gotten excited about since Innistrad block), and enjoyed it very much. My deck went 3-1. I would like to build a deck based around my sealed deck, mostly cause I need to build from the cards I already have (including expensive Purphoros, God of the Forge which I now have two of). I know these decks aren't very good, but any help getting them better without spending a ton of extra money (a suggestion of a playset of a $10+ card is out) would be greatly appreciated.
Here are my two different deck ideas, both using Purphoros, God of the Forge and a decent amount of cards I already own/cheapish cards. Also, I was also wondering which of these two decks are the most sound?...
I would suggest 4 more lands, and moving some cards to the sideboard. Also Tumble Magnet is pretty cool and Restoration Angel resets its counters.
You want your curve to work right so that you deal with threats until Gideon or Tamiyo hits the board. It might be beneficial to cut creatures and add Day of Judgments. You have a lot of creatures, but are not aggro. Day would help more imo, with magnets and Restoration Angels. Then one more finisher like a second Frost Titan, that way you have a finisher on average every 20 cards (plus Gideons) that way you can stabilize, then finish.
Narvuntien> I agree about the card draw, I'll see where I can fit some in. The Restoration Angel was for the Snapcaster Mage and the Sunblast Angel, but now that I read it won't help the angel. So, I think Ill take your advice also and swap her for Stonehorn Dignitary. But I may put in a Cloudshift or two, cuz I really think flicker will be a bomb here.
Pandafarmer> I can do 1 or 2 more lands I'm sure. I'm actually not too worried about a matchup against a low creature count, though. There's still plenty of control here, and that just means I'll have the creature advantage. The Sunblast Angel is my baby and stays. Lol
I've been wanting to make a deck involving tapping for a very long time. This is the first incarnation which I perceive as even playable. Suggestions needed!
If you flicker a Dungeon Geists and choose another target besides the one you chose initially, will the original target still not untap during the opponents untap step? You still own the Geists by the time the untap step happens, after all.
Good against the card advantage or Snapcaster Mage, for sure. As far as it's wider appeal, I would assume it's only going to outright clobber heavy control decks. As long as the blue player has something else legitimate going for it, they shouldn't have to plug up their Mana Leaks.
That being said, completely locking the game down while sitting on a card like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, for instance, just isn't going to be as easy. This was needed, I dare say. And yes, I enjoy playing control. I just prefer to balance it, constructing a well-balanced well thought out deck, instead of: Control, control, control, control, card of choice, win. That's just no fun for anyone, in my opinion.
Can someone please explain to me why this isn't broken? The "miracle" casting condition seems relatively easy to pull off. Not to mention it can still be flashed back with Snapcaster for it's regular cost. I may be wrong, but this is the first new card I've seen (I've been playing about a year) that seems so overpowered it will make the format less fun.
If you declare two 2/2's as blockers against a 3/3 attacker, can you cast Apostle's Blessing after opponent chooses attack order, therefore saving the first blocker, and still killing the 3/3 with damage from both blockers?
Will protection from chosen color protect against an ability of a creature of the chosen color type?
Will protection from artifacts do all three of these things?: Protect against an ability of an artifact (tap abilities, static abilities). Protect against the artifact itself (artifact creature). Undo any effects of attached equipment that effects protected creature (damage or abilities such as first strike).
That does seem a bit more coherent. I might try something like this, and post the resulting deck...

I have cut the creature count, and added a couple more lands. Restoration Angel actually doesn't reset the Tumble Magnet, but Cloudshift would.

Bravo to WotC for the bold move!
