You can clear the board with him and then he can ping himself until he is big enough to swing for lethal with Mephidross Vampire out.

So whats with the multiple eyes on these creatures (see also incorrigible youths)? Could the Demon from the card "To the slaughter" be the source, or has that guy been tainted as well?

Everyone, please stop forcing me to view all these spoilers! Its ruining my experience. In truth, this is exactly how I feel spoiler season should go; a handful of common/uncommons which show a little story-line and keywords/mechanics. It lets us speculate on the story, get interested, see some new artwork. The fact that the splashy cards are not being shown (or that a whole box worth of cards hasn't been barfed out already) really makes me wonder if wizards is behind this. Either that or the "spoiling" gentlewoman is attempting to be respectful to wizards by not spoiling cards that are likely to have articles attached to them. If I'm being honest, I am the type of person who enjoys saving the best for last. I open tons of packs and still squeeze the rare for the excitement of it. So I would love to see the shiny mythics saved for later on in the season. At the same time, I'm also the type person who doesn't care whether I receive a present on Christmas morning or a week before Christmas...I just like surprises and dont care what date they come on.

I like the graphics just fine, but I feel like the life tracker is a little cluttery and could get in the way of actual gameplay. On the same note, I would not want my playmat dictating to me where my library or graveyard should go. I have lots of playmats and depending on the game, I may have 20 or more soldier tokens out and that forces me to reorganize my mat. Now that I'm looking at it more, I think that the purple Ulamog graphics look kinda dated...like a 1980s yearbook photo background. I would just get rid of all that and focus on the cool art blend.

Why would you automatically assume that IronPlushy is a female? Just because s/he/it believes men are inferior? This is exactly the sort of assumptions s/he/it is talking about! Whenever we make these kind of awful assumptions we are no better than the rest of these sexist men that are all over this thread. This thread has soooo much merit, and the only way we can have a proper discussion about it is if we do our best to imagine ourselves genderless for the sake of science.

Art is only okay...until I did a double take and realized that this is NOT a man in motion, but a one-legged man slowly tipping over a cliff. Now the art is great!

I am loving this card! In a Bant control deck I run I'm consistently surviving to late-game, but die inside each time I draw land. With this I can return snapcasters to get Cyclonic rifts back or a deceased Kiora/Tamiyo. Is this really going to be an Intro-Rare? If so I haven't been this excited since...Wolfir Silverheart and Student of Warfare. Its especially encouraging because the rest of the set is mostly a fart-in-the-wind, that I don't actually have to buy packs for this set.

Finally. Solid, fun, decent art, I was starting to lose hope with this set. Would love to ramp into this early somehow.

I'm saddened by this news. I never liked buying core sets when they were mostly reprints (though the last several core sets could stand on their own pretty well despite having a high percentage of reprints). I was pleased to hear of their doing away with core sets entirely because I mostly enjoy the excitement of a new plane - or in this case returning to a plane which was one of my absolute favorites, and all the cool new toys we get to play with.- I'm sure this is because I've been playing for a while and my opinion would change were I new to magic. I, for one, had saved up a good amount of cash in anticipation of buying several boxes, but after seeing so many of the new rares at such a pitifully low power level, and cards I enjoyed and collected for their cool-factor (and yes investment value) being re-printed, I think I must reconsider. I've grown so tired of buying boxes and experiencing that awful sinking feeling when I open .25 cent rare after .25 cent rare after now $2 reprinted mythic. I think the strategy now is to just let everyone else spend their money and buy singles of the few cards with any value when they are reprinted and thus lose all value...which is sad because opening a box or two each set was one of the few things I get to look forward to in my sad world. Does anyone else feel the same as me?

Card seems like a TON of fun. I would never play it if I wanted to win a game, but I would play it just to see if I could get it to go off. Much like Azorious Elocutors.

It seems to me that wizards is printing a lot of creatures that are easy to be dealt with, but MUST be dealt with soon...or else. The beauty is that a deck can only have 4 dismembers whereas you can have as many creatures as you want. I fear we will be surprised by some of these creatures we so quickly dismiss as failing the geistflame or dismember tests. After I just Geistflamed and Dismembered a horde of creatures, and all I have is an empty hand and a smoking gun, I will be sad indeed to see this 1/1 hit the board. I can almost see my opponents thinking, "ok, he only has six shots..."

I dont see why one would have to choose BETWEEN a Titan and Mikaeus. I personally feel that Mikaeus would be the perfect wingman to a titan, or wurmcoil. If you put a Mikaeus into play, its going to be as much a target as a Titan. And I would rather have a Wurmcoil AND a Mikaeus in play rather than two Wurmcoils.

I have been trying him in a Grimgrin deck with astounding success. With gravecrawler and reassembling skeleton grimgrin is fat, and QUICK. But Grimmy has an enormous target on him and falls in battle too often to make him a terribly viable deck...but with the Lich, ya just cast him again and the Lich takes on his abilities that turn. The two together are running really efficiently.

    Couple thoughts:

    1. This card could very well be devastating in decks that revolve around Mind Control. Phantasmal image and cackling counterpart and cryptoplasm and corrupted conscience and Evil twin and Phyrexian Metamorph and Phyrexian Ingester and etc. etc. the card, I believe, will end up being far more powerful than we think. Sure its only a 1/1, but given cards like swiftfoot boots and spellskite, not to mention crazy GY recursion going on in this block, I think it could actually be a viable card.

    2. It would certainly feel more mythic if you actually got to keep the creature you steal...even after the game ends. "Put target planeswalker in your pocket. Go home. Sell on ebay."

    3. This would make for a VERY interesting mirror match

  • posted a message on [DKA] Helvault - Fake?
Probably a fake since the artwork was JUST nicely released. The ability seems reasonable for a DA card, but I would have assumed that the Helvault would give creatures protection until the end of turn, or something similar since it IS a giant sliver of silver
