  • posted a message on [Deck] Maverick
Hello all. I am returning to magic after a long time off from the game. I used to play both g/w maverick and zoo. I am seeing zoo is basically non playable in any type of large scale tournament, and it looks like for maverick we are playing some sort of 3 color variation.

Has anyone here had any success with a "naya" maverick using punishing fire or some sort of red package. I did some one get top 16 with a very interesting list somewhat recently at a starcity tournament.

Overall do you feel it is worth investing into this type of deck or should I hop on the delver wagon and play RUG or BUG ect.

PS: no hate or anything but im not interesting "dark" maverick at all just a maverick involving red.

A shop in La Puente California has started to do weekly Legacy tournaments Monday nights at 7:30pm. There is plenty of parking along the street as it is sort of a down town area. $10 dollars to get in and great prizes. We had 10 people two weeks ago and grew to 12 this past week come on down if you're looking for Legacy.

Here is the owners number and shops address.

    I run a singleton fireblast in one of my zoo lists for the following reasons;
    A. "Free" spell that can close a game on 4
    B. It can kill that creature that may be to big for your bolt and you don't have a grim to combined for the killing blow.
    C. Against decks that don't run blue its an absolute house spell.

The reason I do not more than 1 is for obvious reasons, it is hard to cast more than one in a game, but in my opinion it is worth having in your deck similar to decks that run one Jitte. I am always happy to see it but would never want more than one in my hand (or very rarely would I)

So I suggested Thunderous Wrath because similar to blast it is to hard to manipulate our library to control more than one, but a 5 damage spell is nothing to shack off. I think it may be more useful than Fireblast because it is "safer" than fireblast and has a larger payout damage wise.

P.S. If you arn't going to be constructive with my question why bother commenting, I know you're an ignorant piece of **** but no one asked for your response I simply asked a question if people have considered it or tried it out. And my Inb4 was pretty much aimed solely at you because A your Sig. and B I hate you

What do you guys think of Thunderous Wrath as a possible replacement for Fireblast? I think with the use of Library that a singleton Thunderous Wrath could be a safer singleton finisher then Fireblast seeing as we don't have to sac lands.

Inb4: Singletons suck; unconsistant. ect. ect.

Looking for the opinion of those who may play Fireblast especially with Sylvan Library

And just to clear up a possible issue with the set/block confusion. In most of magics history there are 3 sets in 1 block. For example the current Block
    Block: Innistrad
Sets: Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored
    Block: Scars of Mirridon
Sets: Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged and New Phyrexia
I hope this helps also along side the blocks you will have a core set the current being Magic 2012 or M12 as commonly abbriviated. Now you may be wondering well what's the difference. Within the blocks there is a common theme that both feeds into gameplay and the 'lore' of magic, while each set usually will introduce new interactions or mechanics along with developments in the 'lore' Now the core set or currently M12 is a set made with very "color friendly" cards now i use that term because it is suppose to be a basic set that introduces newer players the basic mechanics or skills if you will of each color, ie Green has a common mechanic of trample.

Hopefully this cleared some possible confusion as I know I was confused with this when I first started. PM me if you have any questions Smile

Even though I despise Combo decks I really enjoy dreamhalls in legacy, since an interesting win mech and you get to play 4 conflux...im in for that

But it is like browbeat, both options on brow beat add up to great things. But here is the issue, IF they have the answer they will let it slip and get rid of it. If not most decks will just accept 4 damage rather than a beater. The option is the bad thing 4/3 for R is great if they let it slip AND have no answer. But Nacatl or Goyf force your opponent to deal with it no matter what the boardstate is. I am not saying Devil is trash and if you test him and like it then by all means. But any time your opponent gets to choose your results, it's not usually as strong as it may seem.

Ok well your first issue is playing on Cockatrice without people you know. That program is a complete joke to find a decent opponent. But as far as turning to MTGO because it is easier, jesus....god forbid you have a little human contact. MTGO is the worst way to play magic and despite many idiots in the world, Paper magic> any thing MTGO could ever hope to achieve.

The only issue with him is the choice factor, ye if they make us sac he is a better lightning bolt, but sometimes that may be irrelevant. So then you look well if they let us keep him then he's a better nacatl imo wrong. Usually if they let you keep it, it is because they will have some sort of answer. This is why Nacatl is so effective, he is a 3/3 1 drop beater that your opponent has to deal with some how. Granted it is not difficult by any stretch to kill him but you have to be able to. With Devil he can just be simply sacced and that 4 damage may mean nothing. He is also a horrible top deck for this reason because later on in the game they will already know what matters a creature or 4 damage. I would think the only time he is better then Nacatl or viably good, is in the first 3 turns or so when you have an abundance of them atleast 2 but 3 is obviously better. Because if you can keep dropping 4/3's early on they either have those answers (rare) or they get ping for 12 damage. I guess overall they work better in packs. Hope these phrases made sense ect.

Hello guys, I am new to the "Combo Elf" decks and I was wondering if Naya colors is viable, using win cons like mirror entity, and something like grape shot. Again I do not know much about this deck, so if this is obviously wrong please do not flame me. Thank you for any future help Smile

    Cheers

So I have looked over many lists, but some of these seem to be out dated, I am leaning toward making Grixis over BUG or RUG as my next deck (partly for my love for the 'shards') But I have tested some lists and they do not seem to effective. Can anyone provide a more recent report or a strong decklist for this type

I was also curious, seeing as people have confirmed that the current U/W or Esper Stoneblades are a tough match up, given the snap/StP combo, do you keep an 'OK' opening 7 or would you mull to 6 for something better. I guess an easier way to say is it the quality or quantity of cards needed in this match?
