He seems decent, but worse than abyssal persecutor in most cases. The option to sac a guy to tap him down is basically a chump block and the persecutor is harder to chump because of the trample.
Ok. The reason I asked was to determine how many copies was appropriate. If the case was that him sticking is a win if they don't answer quickly, I'd always play 4. For instance, in my wizards deck I almost always play 4 Azami, Lady of Scrolls. If extra copies get into my hand, I don't care because I'm going to win anyway unless they deal with the first copy. The most important thing was to get it in hand as much as possible. But anyway, that's irrelevant if Koth isn't a major threat to the game. In that case, getting more than one around between your hand and the board is probably bad and he should be run as a 1-2 of?
Not really looking for what you use him as, but whether or not when he sticks is it a situation of "get rid of him or you lose" type of thing. In other words, if he makes it into play, has anyone found that it puts the opponent on a clock? Or can they just play around him while he's out there?
I'll admit I haven't tested this deck a whole lot, but Koth always seems to be awesome.
So here's a question for people who have: when Koth hits play successfully and stays there, is winning an inevitability unless they kill him somehow? Or does his presence on the board NOT guarantee victory?
Hey,
Firstly I agree that the magnivore buid is the route to go ;), and I would like to know what do you think about using hound of griselbrand as another beater. It survives the fist incineration (pyroclasm, slagstorm,....) and beats for 6 with FS.
He seems good, but what do you take out for him? Maybe it's just me, but I really like the hasty guys in this deck.
And there is 0 reason not to run lavamancer in any red list.
If playing magnivore, it definitely does not make sense to be eating away at your graveyard.
What does boom/bust do that stone rain doesn't do? Get you a spare 1 mana turn 3? You're still going to be casting on turn 3 in order to target a fetch land. Turn 3: 2 mountains and a fetch land, tap the mountains to cast it and target the fetch land and crack it in response vs. turn 3: stone rain. How is that better? Unless I'm missing something it's the same effect, but with less consistency.
Could this deck splash black for a discard package? Like thoughtseize, duress, or inquisition of kozilek? I realize it goes against the blood moon strategy, but maybe having a few to play right away on turn 1 and maybe 2 would be good? Added bonus is that it gets more sorceries in the graveyard.
Pros:
-provides a way to get rid of trouble cards before they come down (e.g. tarmogoyf, honor of the pure, pyromancer ascension, remand etc)
-more sorceries in graveyard (might be able to pluck a sorcery from them to make mort bigger)
Just a thought here, I haven't actually piloted this yet.
Against tron. I wouldn't know every time I land a moon effect, tey disconnect. So I think we're good there.
Oh, that's rich Now I really want to try this deck out. Seems to be well positioned as long as it's consistent. Any daily showings for it?
Any reason for slagstorm over pyroclasm? Seems like turn 2 pyroclasm would be great against a lot of aggro matches. Also, 2 cmc let's you drop a blood moon turn 3 instead of wiping the board turn 3 and waiting another turn to cast blood moon.
I really like this deck...might try out a variant online.
What is the major issue against tron? Isn't this deck able to blow up the tron lands to stop them from getting all that mana? Sure Karn coming down is bad, but I feel like it could be prevented with more LD. At the very least, a surprise Magnivore could kill him?
Against storm...maybe Mindbreak Trap? Not the best, but might work out as a sideboard card?
RDW burn seems like it would be a problem for this deck. How do people fare against that? The moon effects are all but useless and so is pyroclasm.
Ahhh yes. A nice "screw you" to lingering souls. This is really good; completely splashable and hoses aggro. I wouldn't mind running this in my control decks. Tbh even if I'm only killing ONE of their guys, I'm still burning face. 2+ is just awesome.
Thoughtseize. Nothing like being able to look at their hand (and seeing most times what their deck is doing) and take away whatever hoses you the most or what you can't get rid of by other means.
Replace 2 endless ranks of the dead and 2 mimic vat with 4x aether vial. It is awesome in creature heavy strategies, plus it annoys control. This adjustment alone will give you a LOT more speed.

Would lightning axe fit against tarmogoyf? Can pitch an early sorcery or a demigod when you have another in hand? Or does flame slash do the trick?

1x Emrakul
1-3x Wurmcoil Engine
0-4x Karn Liberated
0-1x ulamog
Grove of the Burnwillows (if doing RG tron)
1x All is Dust
1x Iona, Shield of Emeria (if UW)
1x Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite (if UW)
UW producing lands are going to be kinda pricey...so maybe just RG?
Might be missing something...but that's all off the top of my head. Mindslaver is fairly cheap if you go that route.
The Tron lands aren't pricey.
