If we can come up with something similar to the backstory we discussed for the last campaign, I'd be going for either a Swashbuckler or a fighter. Let me toss you that PM I meant to send earlier.

How much of the backstory do you recall from the last campaign of yours I tried to integrate into? If possible, I'd love to work something similar up with my character for this campaign.

The man begin to dress himself in the content of the first chest. He covered his chest with an undershirt and a fine silver doublet, and retrieved a set of jet black breeches. He produced a similarly black jerkin with silver stitching. Most notably, sewn into the jerkin was a symbol of a swooping, silver hawk.

When he properly dressed himself and secured his scimitar to his sword belt, he handed Erik's cloak back to him. The man looked to be several times his worth from when the group originally happened upon him.

"Right," he said aloud. "We have what we require. There may yet be materials in this," he made a sweeping gesture around the room, "blasted temple that would make the trip all the more worth the effort, but how much are we willing to risk?"

I'm getting geared up for my last real semester. Taking a slew of hours and pouring every ounce of time I have into my studies, but after this it's just a capstone class and an elective and I am done. Feels like it's been forever.

So I'm frustrated and in mourning and am not sure what's going on. Today, 19 wildland fire fighters died in the Yarnel Hill fire. 19 out of 20 of an elite hotshot crew from the city of Prescott, Arizona. A sister city to mine, just over the mountain not 30 minutes away. I trained there last march to be a type 1 fire fighter. I tried to get on a fire crew, but was not able. Now the fire rages, 19 are dead, and I'm not there. 200 plus fire fighters are deployed, the city of Yarnel is destroyed, and I'm not there.

I don't know. 19 are dead. We train for that. Fighting the flanks, avoiding flame lengths above 3 feet, deploying shelters when the **** hits the fan. But 19 dead...that shouldn't be possible....Not in this day and age...that shouldn't be possible...

Holy ****, sir. I'm glad you weren't there, but that is insane.

The man nodded once, and started to approach the man on the ground before stopping and turning to Tiran. "I mean to retrieve my scabbard. You don't need to worry about my blade again, so I hope you show me the same courtesy."

As the man cautiously approached the fallen brigand, he continued "They took my possessions from me before locking me in this place. This fool found my blade to be to his liking, however, so my most essential equipment remained close." The man fumbled with an ornate sheath on the man's belt, leather died black with a silver mouth. The length of the scabbard was inlaid with oval jets and lined with silver stitching.

"Did any of you happen upon where they kept the rest of my belongings? I do not fancy leaving here in this state if it can be avoided."

"Surviving" Is all the man answered before he released Tiran. "I couldn't take the risk that you were more of them." He said as he indicated the fallen man with his blade, which sat between a shortsword and longsword in length, featured a nastily sharp, curved edge, black fine leather handle, and was adorned with a silver swooping hawk on its pommel. The blade was obviously castle-forged by a master smith.

"Now, what became of my captors?"

I'll let Caex handle the rest. All I can really run from here out is my character.

Also, I apologize for the delay the last few days. The end of my week was a madhouse.
As Tiran approached the slumped figure, it continued to show no signs of life. When he got close enough to check for sure life, however, the being lurched out of the chair, the ropes that bound his feet and legs slipped to the floor without restraint.

In one fluid motion, the figure jumped forward, slipped its long hair back over its head, and brought a curved blade against the throat of Tiran. "Don't move" the man whispered softly, his ice blue eyes staring into Tiran's own.

Those eyes turned to the the rest of the room and party. The soft voice grew stern and the eyes gained the wild quality seen from an animal with its foot in a trap and the man said, "I will have your names, the whole lot of you. Speak them quickly and keep your distance, or you will see another one of your friends' lifeblood on these tiles."

We can deal with rolls here if we need, but I'd prefer to keep this to a simple roleplay if we can.

...a small tiled room, dimly lit and slightly hazy from the few torches lining the walls. The tiles are each a deep blue, each adorned with a silver crescent moon that dances in the flickering torchlight.

The room would be astoundingly beautiful but for its contents. On the floor before the party, a man lays prone on the crowd, a visible red line on either side of his throat; his lifeblood pooled around his form and staining the otherwise immaculate tile. From the looks of the body and the color of the blood, the man was only recently made into a corpse.

Behind the fallen man, in the center of the tiled room sits another, bound hand and foot to a heavy chair. The man is relived of the majority of his clothing, and slumped over, unmoving. His long, straight black hair hangs low over his legs, and his pale skin is adorned with fresh cuts and bruises. As far as the party can tell, he is every bit as lifeless as the man that so recently bled out.

Damn it, Ria, you made me look up that French. The I felt silly because I know I have said that before, just never read it.

    So, stop that or something.

Honestly, if the Called thread were to close at this point I wouldn't bat an eye. I have friends on here that I will still be friends with years from now. I need to do a better job about checking in every now and then, but that's a complaint even my local friends could make.

Thread or no thread, ya'll are stuck with me.

How are the boys these days, Ria?

@LN Saugeen Shores sounds like it was a blast do you have any pictures for us? Congrats on the approaching end to the high school period of your life. Any plans on university work?

@Daggs Congrats on the raise, good sir. I'm sure they'll get the parking situation resolved with all due haste if they're willing to give you more money to work there. It would be terribly backwards to give someone the first pay increase in years only to ask them to walk to get to work.

I'm enjoying the first few days of quiet after a busy semester. School is almost done for me as well, and I'm hoping that I can have better luck than some of my friends and their chosen fields.

Birthday was last Sunday. Got both seasons of Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray and my cousin and her boyfriend got me Soul Sacrifice so I'd play it with them. I bought myself a giant bean bag chair for my gaming room. When I say giant, I mean this.

Other than that, not much is new. Still single and dating, still doing some random internet work, and still somehow getting by with odd jobs and relative self employment. Life's right where I want it.

Mah computer's in the shop. Getting several expensive but awesome upgrades to help with livestreaming. I'm practically giddy with nerdy excitement to get it back and get to playing with it and seeing what it can do.

In the interim, I have my laptop on my desk with as many peripherals as I can get the bugger attached to. I'm damn near working a switchboard as I swap out usb devices based on what I am wanting to do.

Saw Django with mah lady. Great movie for those that like Tarantino's style. The soundtrack for it is insane as well, and it's been on a constant loop on my laptop.

Brady hasn't been Brady for years, though. He's still got an arm on him, but he refuses to run since he was injured.

I have to disagree about the packers being a one man team. Rogers is obviously the brightest star on the roster, but the Packers would still be without a lot of success if we didn't have Matthews, Finley, Nelson, Jones, and many others.

We have a legendary player on the team, yes, but that doesn't make all the players that would be great on any other team substandard.

    Yuk - Helloooo.....? [/echo][/echo][/echo]

    Sup '-'

The holidays were a lot of fun for me. I went up north and made a grand tour between Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; vesting relatives in each state and we all eventually headed back to my grandmother's in Iowa. She turns 80 this year, so we had the whole clan gathered together for a Christmas/birthday celebration. We haven't had us all in one spot in well over a decade.

Anyway, all of our family's great cooks, my grandma, my mother, all my aunts, my uncle that used to be a baker, and my girlfriend (her first trip up north) got together and basically made a feast. Anywhere in that tiny little house that wasn't occupied by a person was holding food. It was marvelous.

We all ate for hours and by the time we were done, every male fell asleep in the living room and the women went downstairs for wine and chit chat.

Easily one of the best family gatherings I've been to in years.

On a side note, I am seriously tempted to have my name changed on these forums. I started a livestreaming page recently, and I am rocking the same gaming handle I have had for years there. Feels weird to come back here and be "Yukora"

The drive-through harasser deserved to lose his job because, as a CFO, you are one of the figureheads of an organization. You represent the company with everything you do, and I don't blame a company for not wanting to have anything to do with him after he acted like such a jerk.

This would help facilitate my yay vote.

Anywho, I am thoroughly surprised to come in here and discover that despite all of the hubbub and drama over the past several days, I have remained with a spot on the roster. I am about as guilty as anyone of the "inactive" title. I'll admit, I'm going to have to get used to logging in again and hanging out with you lot. It's been a minute since I was able to do that without other assorted MTGS happenings.

The semester is quickly winding down for me and I have spent the majority of my free time celebrating appropriately with my friends. My nephew also reached his first birthday milestone last weekend, and he adorably devoured his first mini-cake. It's a simple thing, but it was all kinds of awesome.

So looking around and following that ridiculous thread I've seen that Yuks has resigned his post as an admin. I can understand that. He's pretty much been MIA for a long time now, only popping in when his services are greatly needed. I can understand that because of the personal issues he's dealt with over the past couple of years.

Sad to see him go, but I'm sure he'll be happier just posting random crap again and enjoying his freedoms.

I spent way too many late nights trying to read up on everything that was going on and by the time I'd finished, I was too tired to be of much use in policy discussions and whatnot.

To be honest, I am in one of the better spots in my life at the moment and I have a lot of things around me that I love devoting my time to. MTGS simply fell far down the priority list at some point and it isn't fair to the users or the staff to have an admin that isn't fully committed.

I do like the idea of being able to take five minutes from all of that, pop in and say hey, and perhaps share some pictures if anything interesting enough happens.

Truthfully, I posted a thread in the admin lounge in December about how my time and energy were finding refuge in many other places besides this site and I questioned how much longer I would be able to devote my time to the site's necessary endeavors.

That was before Extremeicon retired, Azrael came and went, and Annorax had to step down from his position. I still believe in what we started and feel that we're on the right track for getting things lively here again, I just no longer feel like the right man to spearhead those endeavors and truthfully, I haven't been that as of late. Some of that has to do with the good old PC dying a tragically sad death, but that time away from here just reminded me how much I enjoy the other aspects of my life. The passion and energy I once used for this site has been redirected to my career, my schoolwork, my two adorable nephews, and my personal life. I think it's simply time and I hope my replacement will be able to provide you all with the time and energy you all deserve. Go easy on whoever it is, this gig can be rough.

So, yeah. I tend to suck at closing things so I will just leave it at that. Take care everyone.

So when three administrators post in a smiley thread, do their powers combine and get a Captain Planet smiley?

This needs to be a thing.

Currently flirting with the idea of a swiftblade//dervish. For someone new to roleplaying with me that likely makes your skin crawl, but I have attempted this particular build more times than I can count only for a campaign to fizzle, plus I manage to make broken ideas tolerable and when i tryu and make somethign tolerable it ends up broken. Caex can testify to this.

I thought about dread necro//anything, but that would be dumb to place a necro in a party with an undead hater.

ASA, can I use the Sage class that's floated around the Inn for ages?

Those books are certainly worthy of literary merit, even though they may or may not be enjoyable to read. (I havent read them) They were both optional readings for my university course, so that at least assures that they aren't chaff.

Life is really up-and-down. I have to see a counsellor because apparently I have anxiety, which sucks. On the other hand I may have a date, so it evens out. :/

If the date goes well enough, the anxiety will be a thing of the past.

This is only tangently related to reading, but has anyone ehre gotten their hand son an iPad? I keep staring at them when I end up in a store, but I don't want to spend all of that cash on a tablet only to find out that not enough books are in digital form or that they are terrible to read on one.

I simply have ran out of physical space to store books. I either need to upgrade my living quarters in the near future or buy a digital reader.

I have a UFC show I am covering tomorrow and some schoolwork to do, but I should be able to start work on character creation on Sunday.

It will be fun to get back into one of your horror campaigns.

posted a message on [Aramil] Path of the Walker.
Aramil did not fight the images as they came to him. For the first time in ages, the let the memories he'd repressed wash over his mind and flood him with conflicting waves of nostalgia and pain.

The soft feel of his wife's touch after a hard day in the fields and conflicted with the pain of seeing her killed by those barbarians.

The feeling of acquiring his connection to mana conflicted with the memory of Barrin's betrayal.

The feeling of finding the Tenth Guild conflicted with the terror of seeing it threatened by an unknown enemy.

Aramil allowed the multitude of memories to come and go. After a time, a time that will be lost to the ages, Aramil relaxed. He was no longer conflicted. He had focus. He knew what he needed to do.

"I need to get home." Aramil repeated aloud, and the air around him began to swirl.

As Xen walked, the pounding of the heartbeat began to fill his senses. The sound sent shivers down his pine, the flashes of color becoming almost blinding.

This is an intention to create a character post, should that final spot be available down the line.

I'll read up on everyone and through the campaign thread and see if I can make something that would be fun for me to create but would still work well with the world you are all creating.

If you're up for a player over the limit I am all for a good gestalt horror campaign, but I fully respect the fact that I am late to the party on this one.

Oh I'm sorry I wasn't aware that you have the pulse of my clan to properly tel whether or not I'm properly voting with my clan. Furthermore since I began my fact finding mission I have had one non mod member of my clan weigh in, so would you like me instead to just vote however the one member votes? Once avian, you are displaying a wonderful ability to not know what you are talking about, and further ore I disagree with you, don't try and dismiss this as "not the place to talk about it". This is precisely the place to talk about it. If you're gonna puff out your chest and call me out come correct or get ready to be to,d to sit down. Sit down please sir, until you come correct.

    Quote from DigicoolDad
So how long were we supposed to.wait for your clan to decide? It seems, after prodded, you knew instantly. So if one member weighed on after, say, a few days, you should have relayed the message. The whole point of having reps, is so that they can relay what is going down in the Clans Council thread, and be the clans voice. I thought the Called was the Called, not Clan Kpaca.
im not sitting down either. You as the Called's rep and clan mono black were holding us up. Show some accountabilty and do you job.

One more word out of either of you and you can kiss your potential to decide a tiebreaker goodbye. The last thing this is going to deteriorate into is a pissing contest rather than a civil discussion.

If you can't listen to a direct request from a moderator then you won't be getting a vote in this matter.

Now, if we can all take a deep breath and regain some much needed civility and level-headedness, it would be much appreciated. I will not tolerate this discussion and decision process breaking down any further than it has and I have no qualms with removing anyone who can't handle that from this discussion.

I am actually surprised that other people on this forum like Fleet Foxes, no one at my school even knows they exist. :monty:

Fleet Foxes? I'll have to look them up, I always enjoy expanding my musical exposure. Any particular songs I should seek out?

Xen did not have to extend his senses far to "see" the source of the heartbeat. As the thudding rang though the air, Xen could see pulses of green and then black washing over the walls of Svogthos. They were faint, but they were perfectly timed with the heartbeat Xen could feel and hear.

    Green. Black.
    Green. Black.
    Green. Black.
    Green. Black.

The beat echoed on as Xen searched, beckoning his attention.

Aramil smiled at his new friend before he asked himself that very question, "Now what?"

Aramil drew a deep breath and tried to make sense of everything that led up until this point. The fact that he was almost dead. The sudden burst of energy that tore his body to shreds. The strange feeling of existing in the great Aether. The sudden rush of barreling towards a new world The nauseating experience of reforming bit by bit before dropping half-dead into ice-cold water. It all led to him sitting on the shore of a strange land with a strange critter sitting on his shoulder.

Aramil let the breath out and with it the words. "I need to get home."

That's just my explanation for the gold you're going to get at the end of the quest. That will be determined when I figure your xp.

As Xen climbed, the faint sound of the heartbeat echoed through the stairwell. The sound was distant yet Xen could feel the effects of the pounding on his body. He could practically feel the heartbeats coming out of the floor where he stepped.

Xen looked inside his satchel to find everything in its place. Curiously, there was a larger chunk of gold than he remembered having before.

As Xen made his way up the steps, he could hear the sound of a heartbeat.

posted a message on Clan Contest 2011 #3: Planeswalkers vs. Phyrexia Mafia MVP/LVP VOTE NOW!
After much thought, consideration, and debate, the Clans Staff would like to announce that we are rescinding our previous ruling for this clan contest. All points will be rewarded as they were originally intended.

The impetus for this reversal is the fact that our original ruling served, inadvertently, to punish the players for the faults of the game format, which simply is not fair. Our previous concerns have been assuaged and the only logical conclusion was to reverse our previous decision.

The Clans staff hopes everyone had a wonderful holiday season. We look forward to another year of great contests in 2012.

    Sincerely,
    Your Clans Forum Moderators,
    Daggertooth, MandersHex, rianalnn, and Yukora

"You don't understand a word I am saying, do you?"

Aramil, surprisingly calm for being suddenly jolted to a strange world with foreign creatures, knelt down to the water's edge. He moved slowly as to not startle his new found companions, and he extended his good hand to the water's edge.

"Thank you," he said with a smile.

Take your avatar over to one of the avatar and sig shops. They're pretty handy with getting santa hats on things.

I contemplated getting Yahtzee a santa hat, but I figured that would just be too big of a pain in the ass. Plus, I've had this avatar for years.
