If we can come up with something similar to the backstory we discussed for the last campaign, I'd be going for either a Swashbuckler or a fighter. Let me toss you that PM I meant to send earlier.

How much of the backstory do you recall from the last campaign of yours I tried to integrate into? If possible, I'd love to work something similar up with my character for this campaign.
Dec 4, 2013If this is the end, I want you all to know that I appreciate the past several years. The Called has been my favorite aspect of this site, and in my time here I have found a few people I would truly call a friend.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads
I hope we can talk more elsewhere on the internet. I've missed you lot.
Sep 18, 2013The man begin to dress himself in the content of the first chest. He covered his chest with an undershirt and a fine silver doublet, and retrieved a set of jet black breeches. He produced a similarly black jerkin with silver stitching. Most notably, sewn into the jerkin was a symbol of a swooping, silver hawk.Posted in: Past Adventures
When he properly dressed himself and secured his scimitar to his sword belt, he handed Erik's cloak back to him. The man looked to be several times his worth from when the group originally happened upon him.
"Right," he said aloud. "We have what we require. There may yet be materials in this," he made a sweeping gesture around the room, "blasted temple that would make the trip all the more worth the effort, but how much are we willing to risk?"
Aug 31, 2013The man begins working his way through the various storage containers, looking for his own equipment or anything that would prove capable of defending himself against the threats to come.Posted in: Past Adventures
Aug 15, 2013The man looked around to his new companions after the woman's light show. "If it pleases you all, I would very much enjoy a swift exit from this place. I retain some hope of finding my equipment, but we should probably get moving before another ancient being pops in to offer their greetings."Posted in: Past Adventures
Aug 15, 2013Congrats, LN. Welcome back to the team.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads
I'm getting geared up for my last real semester. Taking a slew of hours and pouring every ounce of time I have into my studies, but after this it's just a capstone class and an elective and I am done. Feels like it's been forever.
Dux, did you ever confront your friend?
Aug 8, 2013The man stood his ground, and waited to see what answers this stranger would have for Erik.Posted in: Past Adventures
"This is all kinds of odd," the man thought. "Who is she?"
I apologize for the lack of posting, but I figured we'd all be fairly quiet until Erik's questions were answered.
Basic Knowledge (History) Check to see if "Yew" rings any bells:[DICE=1]20+4[/DICE]
Jul 23, 2013The man turned to Disell, who had him by the arm, "And what are you suggesting, that we just leave her here to suffer? I'll grant you that her entrance was...worrisome, but what if she were trapped here before? Are you willing to leave a woman defenseless and disrobed to her own devices when she is gasping for air?"Posted in: Past Adventures
Jul 14, 2013The man looked at Erick with a visage of disbelief. "She can barely breathe, and you're bearing your steel against her and demanding identity?"Posted in: Past Adventures
The man didn't wait for a reply; he began making his way to the mysterious woman.
Jul 13, 2013Posted in: Past AdventuresI don't blame them. I still pre-scan all of your posts for "dracolich" just out of Pavlovian conditioning. The man, relatively oblivious to the state of the corpses, quickly scanned the room for anything that could contain his missing equipment.[DICE=1]20[/DICE]When he finally becomes aware of the corpse's movements, his mouth hanged agape for a few moments. When he managed to collect himself, he said, "I agree. We got what we came for; nothing good can come from a place such as this."
Jul 7, 2013The man takes the cloak from Erik, wraps it around himself the best he can, and uses the fallen captor's sword belt to hold it all in place. "Thank you, Erik, was it? This will serve, but I would be pleased if we happened upon my actual equipment and provisions before we get out of this place entirely."Posted in: Past Adventures
At Tiran's urging, the man nodded. "I'm ready to be moving again, if nothing else."
Jul 3, 2013Posted in: Past AdventuresCome on, guys. We can do a better rate than this. The man nodded. "Well, let's grab the title and get moving. Should our collectors double back, they will have us in a terrible position. I can only hope we find my gear along the way."
The man turned to Tiran. "I would ask for a cloak in the interim, but considering our introduction, I doubt that would be proper." The slightest smirk formed on the man's face.
Jul 3, 2013Posted in: Retired Clan ThreadsQuote from DaggertoothSo I'm frustrated and in mourning and am not sure what's going on. Today, 19 wildland fire fighters died in the Yarnel Hill fire. 19 out of 20 of an elite hotshot crew from the city of Prescott, Arizona. A sister city to mine, just over the mountain not 30 minutes away. I trained there last march to be a type 1 fire fighter. I tried to get on a fire crew, but was not able. Now the fire rages, 19 are dead, and I'm not there. 200 plus fire fighters are deployed, the city of Yarnel is destroyed, and I'm not there.
I don't know. 19 are dead. We train for that. Fighting the flanks, avoiding flame lengths above 3 feet, deploying shelters when the **** hits the fan. But 19 dead...that shouldn't be possible....Not in this day and age...that shouldn't be possible...
Holy ****, sir. I'm glad you weren't there, but that is insane.
Jun 30, 2013The man nodded once, and started to approach the man on the ground before stopping and turning to Tiran. "I mean to retrieve my scabbard. You don't need to worry about my blade again, so I hope you show me the same courtesy."Posted in: Past Adventures
As the man cautiously approached the fallen brigand, he continued "They took my possessions from me before locking me in this place. This fool found my blade to be to his liking, however, so my most essential equipment remained close." The man fumbled with an ornate sheath on the man's belt, leather died black with a silver mouth. The length of the scabbard was inlaid with oval jets and lined with silver stitching.
"Did any of you happen upon where they kept the rest of my belongings? I do not fancy leaving here in this state if it can be avoided."
Jun 26, 2013"Surviving" Is all the man answered before he released Tiran. "I couldn't take the risk that you were more of them." He said as he indicated the fallen man with his blade, which sat between a shortsword and longsword in length, featured a nastily sharp, curved edge, black fine leather handle, and was adorned with a silver swooping hawk on its pommel. The blade was obviously castle-forged by a master smith.Posted in: Past Adventures
"Now, what became of my captors?"
Jun 23, 2013Posted in: Past AdventuresI'll let Caex handle the rest. All I can really run from here out is my character. As Tiran approached the slumped figure, it continued to show no signs of life. When he got close enough to check for sure life, however, the being lurched out of the chair, the ropes that bound his feet and legs slipped to the floor without restraint.
Also, I apologize for the delay the last few days. The end of my week was a madhouse.
In one fluid motion, the figure jumped forward, slipped its long hair back over its head, and brought a curved blade against the throat of Tiran. "Don't move" the man whispered softly, his ice blue eyes staring into Tiran's own.
Those eyes turned to the the rest of the room and party. The soft voice grew stern and the eyes gained the wild quality seen from an animal with its foot in a trap and the man said, "I will have your names, the whole lot of you. Speak them quickly and keep your distance, or you will see another one of your friends' lifeblood on these tiles."
We can deal with rolls here if we need, but I'd prefer to keep this to a simple roleplay if we can.
Jun 17, 2013...a small tiled room, dimly lit and slightly hazy from the few torches lining the walls. The tiles are each a deep blue, each adorned with a silver crescent moon that dances in the flickering torchlight.Posted in: Past Adventures
The room would be astoundingly beautiful but for its contents. On the floor before the party, a man lays prone on the crowd, a visible red line on either side of his throat; his lifeblood pooled around his form and staining the otherwise immaculate tile. From the looks of the body and the color of the blood, the man was only recently made into a corpse.
Behind the fallen man, in the center of the tiled room sits another, bound hand and foot to a heavy chair. The man is relived of the majority of his clothing, and slumped over, unmoving. His long, straight black hair hangs low over his legs, and his pale skin is adorned with fresh cuts and bruises. As far as the party can tell, he is every bit as lifeless as the man that so recently bled out.

I need to do something other than watch Game of Thrones and read Feast For Crows. That's basically been my week thus far.

So, stop that or something.
Honestly, if the Called thread were to close at this point I wouldn't bat an eye. I have friends on here that I will still be friends with years from now. I need to do a better job about checking in every now and then, but that's a complaint even my local friends could make.
Thread or no thread, ya'll are stuck with me.
How are the boys these days, Ria?
@LN Saugeen Shores sounds like it was a blast do you have any pictures for us? Congrats on the approaching end to the high school period of your life. Any plans on university work?
@Daggs Congrats on the raise, good sir. I'm sure they'll get the parking situation resolved with all due haste if they're willing to give you more money to work there. It would be terribly backwards to give someone the first pay increase in years only to ask them to walk to get to work.
I'm enjoying the first few days of quiet after a busy semester. School is almost done for me as well, and I'm hoping that I can have better luck than some of my friends and their chosen fields.
Birthday was last Sunday. Got both seasons of Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray and my cousin and her boyfriend got me Soul Sacrifice so I'd play it with them. I bought myself a giant bean bag chair for my gaming room. When I say giant, I mean this.
Other than that, not much is new. Still single and dating, still doing some random internet work, and still somehow getting by with odd jobs and relative self employment. Life's right where I want it.

Also, it's getting crowded in the Called
That they are. I'm just a big fan of that back home, soulful southern style of music and this soundtrack is chocked full of it.
I'm streaming them vidja games on a site called twitch.tv. I broadcast video games I am playing and random internet peeps hang out and chat it up with me for a few hours. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a lot of fun. Been weird not doing it the past few days as my computer gets its improvements.
As far as fonts go, I hear the default we got here is pretty sexy
Jan 11, 2013Hello all.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads
Mah computer's in the shop. Getting several expensive but awesome upgrades to help with livestreaming. I'm practically giddy with nerdy excitement to get it back and get to playing with it and seeing what it can do.
In the interim, I have my laptop on my desk with as many peripherals as I can get the bugger attached to. I'm damn near working a switchboard as I swap out usb devices based on what I am wanting to do.
Saw Django with mah lady. Great movie for those that like Tarantino's style. The soundtrack for it is insane as well, and it's been on a constant loop on my laptop.

I have to disagree about the packers being a one man team. Rogers is obviously the brightest star on the roster, but the Packers would still be without a lot of success if we didn't have Matthews, Finley, Nelson, Jones, and many others.
We have a legendary player on the team, yes, but that doesn't make all the players that would be great on any other team substandard.
Jan 7, 2013Posted in: Retired Clan ThreadsQuote from LuckNorrisI only became a member of the Called after the cave was destroyed so I don't really know what it would be like to have one again... but it sounds like it would be a good thing.

Personally, I'm rooting for mah Packers. The past few years have been a real sight to behold considering how long it's been since we had a Superbowl-caliber team.
Jan 6, 2013Posted in: Retired Clan ThreadsQuote from RUBRDUXYuk - Helloooo.....? [/echo][/echo][/echo]
The holidays were a lot of fun for me. I went up north and made a grand tour between Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; vesting relatives in each state and we all eventually headed back to my grandmother's in Iowa. She turns 80 this year, so we had the whole clan gathered together for a Christmas/birthday celebration. We haven't had us all in one spot in well over a decade.
Anyway, all of our family's great cooks, my grandma, my mother, all my aunts, my uncle that used to be a baker, and my girlfriend (her first trip up north) got together and basically made a feast. Anywhere in that tiny little house that wasn't occupied by a person was holding food. It was marvelous.
We all ate for hours and by the time we were done, every male fell asleep in the living room and the women went downstairs for wine and chit chat.
Easily one of the best family gatherings I've been to in years.
On a side note, I am seriously tempted to have my name changed on these forums. I started a livestreaming page recently, and I am rocking the same gaming handle I have had for years there. Feels weird to come back here and be "Yukora"

To disuade being thought as a gutter sheep, I guess I should explain why I left. The Called just doesn't feel like the same place anymore, more than anything. I don't really feel as comfortable posting. That's in addition to friends leaving thus making me want to post less, and honestly the reaction of people like CharD and votan that just left a real bad taste in my mouth. I don't have ill will towards y'all, I just feel like it is time for me to find a new home.
I may still follow the thread an post from time to time, but it'll be as an alumni. Peace
Congratulations on the staff thing; I hope we happen to be postin at roughly the same increments in the future.
Teefo, I have 0 beef with you, & if you want to be active in here, that's your call. I dunno if we can get the two other players, but it would be cool to see that contest happen.
In other news: Lucknorris wants /in. I'm all for it, are we ready to vote that guy in?
Props to you, Teefo, for sticking around. Talore, CK, and kpaca, I'm sorry to see you all go but I'm sure I'll talk to you on occasion via AIM and whatnot.
Nick, I'll be praying that you find the strength to right that wrong. Your self-removal was admirable but entirely warranted.
I know very little about LN outside of our former staff relationship. I'd like to get to know him better before a yay vote.
Quote from sXeI'm good with LuckNorris on two conditions.
No influx of Chuck Norris jokes. That **** was never funny.
He has to have the title "Shortest Member of the Called" in his sig for a predetermined amount of time.
This would help facilitate my yay vote.
Anywho, I am thoroughly surprised to come in here and discover that despite all of the hubbub and drama over the past several days, I have remained with a spot on the roster. I am about as guilty as anyone of the "inactive" title. I'll admit, I'm going to have to get used to logging in again and hanging out with you lot. It's been a minute since I was able to do that without other assorted MTGS happenings.
The semester is quickly winding down for me and I have spent the majority of my free time celebrating appropriately with my friends. My nephew also reached his first birthday milestone last weekend, and he adorably devoured his first mini-cake. It's a simple thing, but it was all kinds of awesome.
Past that I have simply been hanging out at the house while slowly working through a backlog of games. No complaints.

So looking around and following that ridiculous thread I've seen that Yuks has resigned his post as an admin. I can understand that. He's pretty much been MIA for a long time now, only popping in when his services are greatly needed. I can understand that because of the personal issues he's dealt with over the past couple of years.
Sad to see him go, but I'm sure he'll be happier just posting random crap again and enjoying his freedoms.
I spent way too many late nights trying to read up on everything that was going on and by the time I'd finished, I was too tired to be of much use in policy discussions and whatnot.
To be honest, I am in one of the better spots in my life at the moment and I have a lot of things around me that I love devoting my time to. MTGS simply fell far down the priority list at some point and it isn't fair to the users or the staff to have an admin that isn't fully committed.
I do like the idea of being able to take five minutes from all of that, pop in and say hey, and perhaps share some pictures if anything interesting enough happens.
Apr 19, 2012For what it's worth, I want to personally apologize for my lack of a role in all of this. For a multitude of reasons, I have dropped the ball in many aspects of my moderating duties for months now and when I should have been around for an event like this, and event that has real-life ramifications that are unimaginable, I simply wasn't.Posted in: Community Discussion
I'm not going to lie and say that this was the sole reason why I have decided to retire, but my incompetency in this event is something that should not be tolerated and if all the other reasons were not there, I would still be making this post.
Go easy on the guys that are left. They're doing their best with the resources they have available to them to make decisions to improve this site. We're human and we screw up, but from having worked with guys like Sene, rianalnn, Galspanic, and viperesque, I know they are good people with a lot to give you folks.
Apr 19, 2012Yukora posted a message on [Official Thread] New Moderators and Staff Shifting! This has been a long time coming, guys, but it's time for me to step down from my position on the staff. Truthfully, I posted a thread in the admin lounge in December about how my time and energy were finding refuge in many other places besides this site and I questioned how much longer I would be able to devote my time to the site's necessary endeavors.Posted in: Special Occasions
That was before Extremeicon retired, Azrael came and went, and Annorax had to step down from his position. I still believe in what we started and feel that we're on the right track for getting things lively here again, I just no longer feel like the right man to spearhead those endeavors and truthfully, I haven't been that as of late. Some of that has to do with the good old PC dying a tragically sad death, but that time away from here just reminded me how much I enjoy the other aspects of my life. The passion and energy I once used for this site has been redirected to my career, my schoolwork, my two adorable nephews, and my personal life. I think it's simply time and I hope my replacement will be able to provide you all with the time and energy you all deserve. Go easy on whoever it is, this gig can be rough.
So, yeah. I tend to suck at closing things so I will just leave it at that. Take care everyone.

Apr 3, 2012We are pleased to announce one of the most substantial changes to MtG Salvation policy in the site's history; the change to the banned member policy.Posted in: Community Discussion
Until today, it used to be that if you get banned, you get banned permanently, with no possibility of a return. Not too long ago, we didn't even have an appeal process for banned or suspended members, and members who got banned, deservedly so or not, had two choices: either stay away from MtG Salvation forever, or make gimmick accounts to evade their bans.
However, this site is now quite old, and members who were banned as irresponsible teenagers might now be adults. People mature, people change. In quite a few cases, keeping these members away from the site is doing a disservice to the site and the community. This is something the MtG Salvation staff recognizes, and as such, we are changing our policy regarding banned members. The new policy is as follows:
- If a member is banned, that member may appeal his or her ban in the Ban/Suspension Appeal Forum.
- If the appeal is denied, it's a default one year off, with circumstances considered.
- After that period, another appeal can be lodged. If this appeal is denied, another year must pass before another appeal is reviewed, ad nauseam.
- At the point that a user can be determined to show an understanding of their reason for being banned & displays a genuine interest in reforming their character, they will be unbanned under a condition of a 1-year probation.
- During this 1-year period, infractions are lengthened to approximately the remaining term of the probation (with the 40-day norm still a minimum; infractions will be set to a length equal to the number of weeks remaining to the probation, rounded up). Any suspension resulting in this time period will result in a return to banned member status.
- Gimmick evasion of these conditions at any time means that the time until another appeal is reconsidered increases by one year.
- Members who have been guilty of ripping, posting malicious links or other very severe offenses, will under no circumstance be allowed back on MtG Salvation.
Q: How does this policy affect previously banned members?
A: The new policy applies to previously banned members as well. Meaning, if they have been banned for a minimum of one year, they may post an appeal for the staff to review.
Q: What about members who evaded their ban/suspension in the past?
A: These members will have the same rights as other banned members in regards to a ban appeal. Since it historically has been so that the only way for a member to resume activity on MtG Salvation after being banned, is to make a gimmick, and that an appeal process has been practically non-existent, these members will also get a shot at an appeal.
Q: Does this mean we will be overrun with previously banned members?
A: Unlikely. These appeals will be considered carefully, and only those who show signs of reformation and a clear intention and will to come back and be a productive member of the community, are allowed to return.
Q: Will the community know when a previously banned member has been unbanned?
A: Whenever a previously banned user gets unbanned and is put on probation, a post in the "Currently Suspended/Banned Users" thread will explain it.
Q: Can we request members to be unbanned?
A: We will only consider appeals submitted by the banned member in question. You can certainly encourage this member to appeal, but we will not review appeals on behalf of other members.
Additionally, if a member has been banned from MtG Salvation in the past and is currently using a gimmick account, we ask that that member step forward and tell us in the Staff Inbox. If that member does this, he or she will be immediately allowed to appeal, and may, if circumstances dictate it, stay unbanned on the terms of a 1-year probation. However, starting June 1st, 2012, ban evading members will, once again, be banned once uncovered.

Life is really up-and-down. I have to see a counsellor because apparently I have anxiety, which sucks. On the other hand I may have a date, so it evens out. :/
If the date goes well enough, the anxiety will be a thing of the past.
This is only tangently related to reading, but has anyone ehre gotten their hand son an iPad? I keep staring at them when I end up in a store, but I don't want to spend all of that cash on a tablet only to find out that not enough books are in digital form or that they are terrible to read on one.
I simply have ran out of physical space to store books. I either need to upgrade my living quarters in the near future or buy a digital reader.
Feb 26, 2012I can only echo the sentiments of my fellow staff members in here. The staff, for far too long, had been simply existing with the intent of maintaining the status quo. We weren't taking strided to move forward and we weren't fixing problems with due haste. A lot of the staff changes listed are due to a renewed effort to make these forums the best they can be while being ran by the best staff we can produce. It's only natural that a transition like what we are going through produces noticeable changes; including a sizeable shift in the staff's roster.Posted in: Community Discussion
There's nothing to worry about. The changes you are noticing are a sign of something good.
Feb 25, 2012Aramil did not fight the images as they came to him. For the first time in ages, the let the memories he'd repressed wash over his mind and flood him with conflicting waves of nostalgia and pain.Posted in: Magic: The RPG

Aramil allowed the multitude of memories to come and go. After a time, a time that will be lost to the ages, Aramil relaxed. He was no longer conflicted. He had focus. He knew what he needed to do.
"I need to get home." Aramil repeated aloud, and the air around him began to swirl.

I'll read up on everyone and through the campaign thread and see if I can make something that would be fun for me to create but would still work well with the world you are all creating.
If you're up for a player over the limit I am all for a good gestalt horror campaign, but I fully respect the fact that I am late to the party on this one.

Sorry about that. I honestly didn't intend to have my post be as bitchy as it was.Quote from RUBRDUXCome on Yuk..
It was a joke man, you know me well enough to know that, no need for ill tone. I'm the one who put "Being an Admin, he only has time for an occasional bathroom break" in your Bio.
This is why I don't think I could ever do what all you guys do.
I think obligation would take away the fun of posting at a forum.
Kpimpsta' - Why you gotz no Mod title? Just a non-offical Gutt thing?
J'eds - Oh.. looks like we got the same question in the batcave.
Jan 28, 2012FYI, I visit this site daily, I just spend most of my time doing policy crap and don't have the free time I'd like to enjoy the other aspects of the forums.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads
Jan 15, 2012Yukora posted a message on Clan Council 2012 - Final CotY standings in post #529!Posted in: Retired Clan ThreadsQuote from kpacaOh I'm sorry I wasn't aware that you have the pulse of my clan to properly tel whether or not I'm properly voting with my clan. Furthermore since I began my fact finding mission I have had one non mod member of my clan weigh in, so would you like me instead to just vote however the one member votes? Once avian, you are displaying a wonderful ability to not know what you are talking about, and further ore I disagree with you, don't try and dismiss this as "not the place to talk about it". This is precisely the place to talk about it. If you're gonna puff out your chest and call me out come correct or get ready to be to,d to sit down. Sit down please sir, until you come correct.
Quote from DigicoolDadSo how long were we supposed to.wait for your clan to decide? It seems, after prodded, you knew instantly. So if one member weighed on after, say, a few days, you should have relayed the message. The whole point of having reps, is so that they can relay what is going down in the Clans Council thread, and be the clans voice. I thought the Called was the Called, not Clan Kpaca.
im not sitting down either. You as the Called's rep and clan mono black were holding us up. Show some accountabilty and do you job.
One more word out of either of you and you can kiss your potential to decide a tiebreaker goodbye. The last thing this is going to deteriorate into is a pissing contest rather than a civil discussion.
If you can't listen to a direct request from a moderator then you won't be getting a vote in this matter.
Now, if we can all take a deep breath and regain some much needed civility and level-headedness, it would be much appreciated. I will not tolerate this discussion and decision process breaking down any further than it has and I have no qualms with removing anyone who can't handle that from this discussion.
Jan 14, 2012Posted in: Retired Clan ThreadsQuote from LuckNorrisI saw the Fleet Foxes last summer in Massey Hall. Great show, and they are fantastic live.
I am actually surprised that other people on this forum like Fleet Foxes, no one at my school even knows they exist. :monty:
Fleet Foxes? I'll have to look them up, I always enjoy expanding my musical exposure. Any particular songs I should seek out?
One of these days, someone should explain to me how werewolves work.
<---Hasn't played since Alara.
