Multiple reasons.
1. Most of the creatures don't actually end up costing a lot. Temples are 2 for each of our dudes, Eyes are pseudo 2, sometimes 3, etc. The "ramp" it gives isn't super needed.
2. It's a 4 mana card that doesn't provide enough value for what it does. It will always cost 4 mana(and 4 straight mana sources), as it is not a colorless Eldrazi spell. It dies to the Lightning Bolt most of the creatures in the deck already avoid, and it provides no benefit upon casting if it's countered(The only creature in the pre-OGW base that doesn't is Wasteland Strangler who is cheaper).
So, now we have an Eldrazi Charm. Hits a lot of relevant things in Modern(granted, quite a few coming from already good match ups), but I feel it's worth the discussion. Seems pretty good.
Took Bringshift to GP Pittsburgh, went 3-3 drop(1-3 if we ignore my byes). Will post list later if people want it. Feels bad, but at least all my losses were close.
How did you like the Dismember mainboard? I was considering cutting my mainboard roast for a dismember instead, but was worried about the 4 life being dangerous against the decks that I would generally be wanting to use this card. Especially paired with the probes, did you find the life costs okay?
It worked well. It's close, and the life payment was awkward at times(4 life is quite a bit), but the utility I got from having a 1 mana removal spell was worth it generally. Just being able to kill some X/4 or X/5 end of their turn, or to be able to play both it and a Roast all while holding up a Dispel or a Remand(on 4 and 5 mana respectively) was useful. But again, it's close and the 4 life is for sure costly. I think 1 is the limit in the 75 and it's potentially the first card I cut in the Main.
Few questions for you guys. How important did you feel Clique was? I have 1 in my board that I am thinking about cutting for some land hate or another huntmaster.
Card was great. Evasive threat and the information it gave was almost always insanely valuable. Between just the pressure of Goyfs, Bolts, the looming combo, adding the one flying "Bolt" a turn was just great, and knowing what to play around/snagging a valuable card out of the opponent's hand was good. Even if it was just Clique them, see they have a useless spell and a land in hand, -knowing- that the coast is "clear"(topdecks and that, but still) to up the pressure or go for the combo is just worth it.
For @Frozen Phoenix and @thedougler1 did you guys find having only 4 twin targets was too few or do you think 4 is the right amount to have considering 3 splinter twins?
4/3 split worked great for me. I'd potentially consider cutting the 1 Dismember and going to 5 creatures(probably 2/3 Mite/Exarch), but as of now I'm happy with just 4 Exarch 3 Twins. It lets me keep the combo around all while still being able to have the deck full of plenty of other action, be it the Goyfs or the versatile spell package. Between 4 Visions, 2 Probes, and natural draw steps/land fetches, it's still pretty easy to be able to just come across the pieces when you're looking for them. Of course, the games where you get flooded on Twins or only draw Exarchs that are doing really nothing still happen, but those are pretty much unavoidable.
Hello friends. Just wanted to chime in that I managed to take down one of my 2 GPT's this past weekend(and Top 16'd the other, with a slightly different board) with the following list. The main is pretty much the same as I posted earlier, just with a Lighthouse instead of the Ghost Quarter(and thus to the slightly different board).
Will probably post up a more detailed report later this week, but some things:
-Blood Moon is still just as great as ever.
-Huntmaster did insane work for me.
-Felt so insanely happy with Tarmogoyf. Pretty much a given since we're on TarmoTwin and not one of the other variants, but the card just made me so happy having that additional early pressure.
Good day fellow Twin players. Headed to a GPT this weekend and deciding to jam TarmoTwin, figured I'd post up my list to see what you gentlemen/women thought.
So in browsing of my local Walmart/Targets, I came across some resale products. Old packs and precons in a glass case. One of these so happens to be the Mirror Mastery EDH of the original Commander precons. It is sealed in shrink wrap, butobv doesnt have the original boxing or the oversized foil generals. I was wondering if anyone here had any idea what that would b worth to people?(considering the precons still sell for a bit, but those are with the box and oversized cards).
Enjoyed this one. Never been a massive fan of Sorin, but I enjoy his backstory and the mix of a call back to his humanity and his "human frailties that have withered away." Ugin being dead wasn't unknown, but him being involved and apparently giving the humans....and other species a way to combat the dragons is intriguing. As is the storm they apparently come from. Also wondering about the oracle Sorin seemed to learn from. Do we have ANOTHER planeswalker that's been to Theros? Is it gonna be Innistrad PT. 2 when it comes to interplanar travel?
Also, semi-confirmation that Nahiri is indeed the Lithomancer?
Heading to a TCGplayer Gold event next weekend, and hoping for a bit of advice on my Gifts deck as it's the only Modern deck I've got to take to the event.
Not 100% sure what to expect of the meta(obviously knowledge of decks that exist, but things like not sure what decks are prominent in the town/area). Also want to try to potentially fit 2 Scavenging Oozes around in the Sideboard, but not sure where they'd go in for. Also not 100% on the 2 Unburial Rites. Having 2 has been fine for me in the past, as a way around a little bit of grave hate, but I feel that's also occupying a slot that could go to another removal spell, etc.
So is Koth confirmed alive, Elspeth, while dead, may attempt to escape the Underworld, this leaves only Venser and Xenagos truly dead to the story. I do wonder who will be the next red walker, as Chandra is taking a break, Ajani is mourning and angry at the Gods, so Gideon might assume the mono white for a while. Its a toss between Lily, Sorin, maybe Garruk for mono black, but my bet is on Lily as she is a bit of a poster child like Jace is for blue.
Xenagos isn't really confirmed dead either. "Whether he perished utterly, as Heliod hoped, or whether his essence descended into Theros's Underworld, as mortals on Theros usually do, is unknown. So Xenagos's true fate is so far uncertain." Which so very makes me happy.
(Not sure if this is the right section of the Standard forum for this, apologize and wish for it to be moved to the correct area if wrong)
So, we all know the 5 color mythic desires for a spot in Standard. It's unlikely they'll actually be competitive, but is there a spot for Chromanticore in some portion of Standard?
The "Reaping Rainbow" list that peeked up a little bit was a more GR Monster Shell. But is that the right shell? G/W(and potentially Junk) seem like a potential base with Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and potentially the Constellation abilities of Eidolon of Blossoms. The shell effectively has to be Green-based, but what shell seems the best for success?
