I think that you are forgetting one thing.
He said that upcoming sets will be less dark. This probably means that Avacyn Restored may be less dark than Innistrad and Dark Ascention. I find this to be intriguing
As excited as I would be to see an Egyptian mythology block, I can also pretty much assume that we'll see a myriad of others before Maro retires (which probably won't be for another 20+ years) including:
-waterworld/Atlantis block
-Native American block
-ancient Greek/Roman block
-dinosaur block
-revisiting of an Arabian block
-Norse block
-tropical block
-etc.
Point being, there is a lot of design space left for planes, and I expect that they'll touch on most major mythologies that are left before Maro retires.
You are correct, we most certainly have a lot to look forward to, in our unexplored multiverse
This is both exciting and sad. An Egyptian Magic set in the same vein as Arabian Nights would be incredibly epic and would cause me to start buying boosters again. On the other hand, I am not one of the Magic fans calling for MaRo's retirement to happen anytime soon. I don't care for INN block's design, sure, but I still think he is superbly gifted with his creativity. I don't want him to retire completely from Wizards. Maybe he could retire from his position and work in a consulting capacity.
I hope before he "retires," we also see a third "Un-" set. He has to complete his epic trilogy!
Now keep in mind we don't know when he's going to retire. Also, this could be at any point in time before he retires.
And now it's time to introduce the mechanics of each tribe!
Nomads: The aggro tribe: which sports a new mechanic: Rally X tap, attacking creatures you control get +1/+0 until EOT for each other creature you control
Horrors: Essentially relies upon card advantage
Rats: They focus on self sacrifice and all have triggered sacrifice abilities
Wurms: TOKEN GENERATION!!!!1
Zombies: RDW tribe, that is all
Rebels: Self-explanitory
Spiders: Flyer hate and ways to make things flying
Elementals: Ramping
Mutants: Die rolling
Spirits: "Controlish" tribe w/ evasion
What's your favorite tribe?

What do you guys think? I personally believe this to be a fresh change of pace but I would like to hear from you!
This is somewhat vague but for me it's good news. It may possibly mean that Rosewater is considering to go back to Ulragotha because of the high amount of minotaurs there
Thoughts?

I'm guessing 2 or 3 years possibly the block after "Friends"
No, that was African based but had little Egyptian culture references
