And this here is exactly why Bolas can't possibly win, or the rest of Magic will just be a series of postcard sets called 'Bolas visits Ixalan', 'Bolas visits Innistrad', 'Bolas visits Kaladesh' etc., each featuring a PW card called 'Bolas - God of [plane]', with art depicting him laughing maniacly against an assortment of backgrounds. -

knto posted a message on Kaladesh: Worst Set Since Homelands, or Worst Set Ever?Posted in: New Card DiscussionQuote from Frogczar »As a long time player (1994) who's been out of Standard since RTR, I can honestly say that there has been nothing in the sets since RTR that has made me even remotely want to return to playing Standard Magic.
Kaladesh is no different.
Where are powerful spell effects? Are players such babies now that they can't handle getting permanents removed or countered easily?
Magic the "creaturing" in full effect. I'll come back when standard can handle cards like "Wrath of God", "Counterspell" and "Pox".
I guess this is good bye then. You will be missed. -

Neptune posted a message on When Saprolings Fly...You have Ashnod's Altar in the deck. Put in a few tutors just to get the Altar and any creature or enchantment. Combo out on the decks giving you a headache. You can make infinite saprolings with the Altar, Ghave, and your choice of Cathars' Crusade, Juniper Order Ranger, Ivy Lane Denizen, Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest, or Death's Presence. A bunch of others, too.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Do it during your opponent's end step and then attack into their flyers. Or use Blood Artist/Zulaport Cutthroat. Or use an 100/100 saproling with Altar of Dementia.

You mean four-color? Yeah, you can use two colors, albeit only enemy colors, or three colors. This is actually cool because it shows three-color pairings don't always have to focus on the same color, e.g. GWU is not Bant. A GWU deck can "feel" more green or blue, or hell, it can be something like Derevi tokens and be the polar opposite of exalted. For instance, I know I want white with Tana, the Bloodsower for Cathars' Crusade shenanigans, and I have six lovely white Commanders to choose from.
Or you can use four-color. -

It isn't really the same after years though, at least all mine aren't. New themes, tightening or loosening, new sets introducing new ideas etc etc.

So how could combo do this? Let's say there's an infinite combo that wins the game on the spot, but takes 3 cards. If two of the cards are on the table, it can heighten tension in a good way, as players are scrambling to find an answer card to survive. However, if the same player goes infinite, then drops all 3 cards and "just wins", it's less exciting.
Wins through combat damage can be unexciting too. Splinter Twin + Deceiver Exarch in the same turn? Boring. Tooth and Nail for Avenger of Zendikar + Craterhoof? Boring.
It's more about whether the game ends out of nowhere or not, than the method used to achieve it. However, combo far more often ends the game out of nowhere than non-combo does.

Once I build a deck, I tend to keep it together as I have a story I like to tell with all my decks. (Ghave is a bunch of cultists bringing to life evil plant monsters, Ephara is a future dystopia, Nekusar is a lvl 20, 9th level evil chaotic wizard, Shu Yun is Goku etc etc.) If a deck isnt working or isnt fun (like Shu Yun), I usually just go for theme and make it more of a "how much theme can I pack into this" deck.
