Garruk has no where near the stabilizing ability that Elspeth has. She just clogs the board up and stops non-trampling creatures dead. Also, her token pretty much reads win the game too. Every creature is a minimum of 3/3 flyer.

Manabase is off. Not taking advantage of Windswept Heath seems wrong. Allows you to back off some of the pain lands whole still keeping the fixing.

Anafenza, the Foremost as a four off is just wrong. Being legendary is one factor, but her first ability is marginal in this deck and her second ability might not even be needed.

Ajani, Mentor of Hereos will be better when you adding Banishing Light and Elsepths. Liliana isn't bad but more of a SB card imo. Despise is at best sideboard and running 8 discard mainboard is overboard. You might want access to that many post board but not before. Utter End should be in the 60. The card is too good to be in the board.

What the hell? How is hitting for 2 on turn 2 impressive, and what cards are you dropping from Affinity for this? It's not warping in Limited at Uncommon either. Just what the hell is going on here?

Modern just got broken as ****. Esper control in modern!!!

Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster, Remand, Resto Angel then awesome finishers like Rev. Not to mention you get Thoughtseize, so many sweepers (uncounterable!!!!). I'm so excited, U/W control is my favorite thing ever.

The mana base wasn't holding the deck back…

  • posted a message on With the onslaught fech lands being reprinted, are they going to go up in price or down in price or stay the same?
More then likely the KTK versions will be $10-$15 and maybe even $20ish range for blue ones for Modern. The originals will also take a hit in proportion to their prices.

There has been a couple higher profile WotC employees that say they're not a huge fan of the shuffling.
Please. Look at the Fetchland Reprint thread in this forum and you can see at least one person every single page who said THIS as the reason that Fetches would never be reprinted.

If it was a real issue, then MaRo would not have said, "IN!" as soon as development mentioned putting ONS Fetches in KTK. This is a huge misnomer, and is proven all but false at this point.

I'm not talking about if they can be reprinted now am I? What exactly is the whole point of your post? I simply stated their dislike of shuffling may be a catalyst for them to do all 10 in the same block and be done with it.

I don't play Modern, but I'm guessing that the reason fetchlands are good is because they can find non-basic lands that still have land types? Like the Shocklands, etc? I dunno, I'm just not that impressed by them - they just seem like glorified Evolving Wilds to me. And a lot of duals have caveats attached to them - ETBT, loss of life, etc.

Exactly that. You're playing the closest you can get to perfect mana on demand. You pay a couple life, but you have the colors you want when you want them.

Rest of Theros block was already at the printers by the time PT Theros started. R&D has been very wary of mana cost for devotion of any color.

I was expecting to play a lot more UWx control decks and the Aetherling was in the sideboard along with 2 main board Bident of Thassa. I only played one of those decks all day and I just pinged him with flyers until he had no choice but to fire off his Revs into counter magic. I think moving forward that spot is going to become a Mizzium Skin. I'm not a huge fan of either of the 29th creatures and Rapid was the most boarded card so that is going to be the spot for the 3rd main deck Rapid.

Ran this pretty stock list to 28th in Baltimore. I was 16th going into round 10, but could ID for the same payout. Went 7-2-1 losing in the mirror twice. Win one and probably top 8.

I didn't run any new stuff and from talking with other players rightfully so. No one really had anything good to say about Jest. At best it did some average things. The majority weren't playing intelligence to begin with and the other Jaces are just better. The Sliver wasn't bad, but was never really great, and honestly wanted it be a main board Domestication. You want to have it early and often in any matchup that you want it in.

I would rather have J,AoT moving forward but the rest of the side board was fine. Dispell was great for the all the Chord decks. Saved a couple Bidents/Halls/Domestications and stopped a couple Hornet Queens which are a pain in the ass to play against. It's very doable but a pain.

One tilting note. My buddy told me my Mono U opponent keep 5 Islands, Thassa, and Tidebinder on the draw in game 3. I didn't have a Gainsay for Thassa and got smashed pretty hard when he t4 Domestication my Specter. Thanksfully he didn't tell me until after round 10.

It does go infinite combining with Ral Zarek and either Nissa (with at least 4 Forests) or Xenagos (with at least 4 creatures).

Using Ral Zarek's +1 to untap it and tapping irrelevant stuff while using the +1 of either Xenagos or Nissa to generate the 4 necessary mana will allow you to get an arbitrary number of activations in, and at least in expectation, an infinite number of turns, barring exceptionally poor luck.

    Something like:

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, Sage of Hours and The Chain Veil too.

Not sure how good it is, but it is new design space and powerful.

As a friend put it, about time Jace got the "Firebrand" treatment.

And its about time Red get a better Planeswalker along the lines of Jace The Mind Sculpter, Elspeth, Garruck, Karn, Liliana and not counting Domri and Xenagos.

Jace and Liliana are far better than any of the other cards that you mentioned so I do not think that it is a fair comparison. Also, Chandra Pyromaster sees more Modern play than any of the Elspeths or Garruks.

Didn't that flavor of the month Jund go away already?

Wow, so much outright dismissal. I guarantee that if your opponent puts this Jace into play you will not just ignore it and say "oh, bad Jace? I won't bother removing it" unless you're playing something like RDW and you're about to win anyway. If you're on any kind of midrange or control you will do everything you can to get rid of it. That ultimate comes quick and you can't beat it. You only need to look at Thassa to see how powerful scrying every turn is. Not sure about the -3, I think it will be good against non-weenie and non-haste creatures. Being able to bounce your own stuff seems good.

You realize this statement could be made about every planeswalker right? With very few exceptions, PW's ultimates will win games. Then again you don't even need to remove it. Just pinging it would keep this one under control pretty well with a decent board state.
