People are so spoiled by powercreep. Make them work the slightest bit for something and the card is immediately deemed unplayable.
Demon:
- goyf equivalent in attacking power
- you can sacrifice him or remove from graveyard in response to trigger
- if they get demon, you can get him back by resetting his undying via hex parasite or fume spitter, which zombies already play
- good against exile effects
- good againct clone effects
- good against snag and delver decks in general
How do Hex Parasite and Fume Spitter get him back for you?
What are you first impressions? The angel/human interaction seems interesting enough but I feel like Wizards is forcing the issue. With no ETB shenanigans, and the recent revealings of cloudshift and restoration angel, I feel like this is just an average-at-best rare in the set.
Worse than caress of phyrexia and that is a statement in itself. Like caress, this is for limited. Using it in any constructed format is actually a pretty good strategy though. Your opponent will probably laugh so hard he breaks a hip and be unable to finish the match.
He won't get a chance to laugh at it because he will beat you long before you ever manage to actually cast it.
Are you saying you don't think the power levels of certain mechanics in the game change over time?
Not every color can be at its best all the time.
Power levels of mechanics change, but card draw in black is basically non-existent right now in T2.
Not every color can be at its best all the time, but it seems like black has basically been a splash for Doom Blade/GFTT for a while now. Even worse because one of the best black removal cards in T2 doesn't even require black mana to cast.
Ambition's Cost is a perfectly printable card, which is probably why this more versatile version costs more.
Things change all the time in Magic. Blue didn't get Mana Leak or instant-speed card draw for a while, but then they came back. Lightning Bolt was gone for a LONG time, and finally got reprinted for a while in standard. Just because something's a little different or less powerful right now doesn't mean it'll be that way permanently.
When lightning bolt was gone red still had good efficient burn spells. Lightning Helix, Magma Jet, Fireblast, Firebolt, Lava Dart, Fire/Ice, etc. Right now black has nothing decent for card draw.
Am I missing something or is Harrowing Journey complete crap? Like a strictly worse version of Ambition's Cost, which was already bad. Seems like a reprint of Skeletal Scrying might have been nice in this block.
Not too long ago we had cards like Sign in Blood and Night's Whisper. Is efficient card draw in exchange for life no longer part of black's color pie?
Wouldn't be surprised if Deep Analysis was reprinted. Great use of flashback and overall I'd say Deep Anal is one of my favorite cards from Odyssey block.
The flavor text could be kept and the art could easily be redone to be a scientist examining a "frankenstien monster" Innistrad-style zombie.
Why Sun Quan and Cao Cao? They are arguably the two most significant figures of China's Three Kingdoms era of history. Cao Cao and Sun Quan being the leaders of Wei and Wu factions vying for control of China. With Lu Biu bringing up the third.
At the very least Wizards has shown an understanding of Chinese history by choosing two of the most significant figures to be in this box set. Hell for a long time Cao Cao has been one of the most infamous figures in ancient Chinese history.
Yeah, but this isn't From The Vault: Chinese History. It's FTV: LEGENDS.
If there was a George Washington legend with "tap: destroy target cherry tree" I wouldn't want it in this set regardless of how important he might be to American history.
Well commander players just got a big release of a ton of precons. Now they need an entire FTV devoted to them? And were they really begging for Cao Cao?? I don't play EDH so I don't know what's good in the format but those two legends look like total garbage.

Who is Harold? Some kind of new legend?
He won't get a chance to laugh at it because he will beat you long before you ever manage to actually cast it.
does such a deck exist?
Did I miss a reprint of Cabal Coffers? What mana acceleration does black even have in standard?

Sorry but Sorin is not even close to JTMS. People are overreacting again, this PW isn't that great.

Although by turn 6 with tempered steel you've probably already won or chances are you're about to lose.
