I think it is hilarious that some people get upset over a card like this being in standard. I also find it funny that it can block 20 to 50 dollar cards all day long.
So, I have about thirty of the alters that are considered illegal that I purchased from a large online retailer, including two of the "limited" Liliana of the Veil. Should I keep these as novelties or ask for a refund as the retailer claimed these were done with all artists being compensated?
I would say play Standard, if nothing else is available. Legacy is certainly more fun in theory, but not always in practice. My store plays Legacy every other week and the same eight or nine people show up with the same decks. Because of this, I play Standard and Modern. At least I occasionally see new brews in these two formats.
I love to use alpha/ beta cards whenever possible. All my basic lands are beta, and I currently am running one alpha Nightmare in a mono-black control list as well.
I have recently picked up this deck and plan on playing it at my next Modern night. I love tribal themes and ninjas as well, so this was a natural fit. My other favorite is Goblins. Too bad there are no ninja goblins. That would be close to Magic nirvana for me. I picked up the mono-blue version for now, but might go to U/B later. The deck is super-cheap to build but I more than doubled the price of the deck when I got a bunch of arena promo lands for the deck. I loves me some sweet lands, though.
This is just a thought, but would Chandra, Pyromaster be a possibility? She would be at the top of the curve like she wants to be and after the first turn when she comes out, she would become a dark confidant with her 0 ability. Just a thought.
Do any of you think that I haven't heard all of this stuff you are saying a thousand times before? I know it isn't completely rational, but that still doesn't help me fix the problem. I just thought I would ask what the least objectionable option was, not to get little judgements and factoids that are anything but new.
Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about drafting/exchanging sealed pools? Seems to me that if you can play those and not sanitize your hands after every pack then you should be able to shake your opponent's hand for 5 seconds.
I do not draft. For this reason, and I don't like the format.
People would be better off if they did this instead of assuming the world needed to react to them.
But that isn't the one we live in.
Compared to some of the other stuff you see at my LGS, it isn't that bad. Some people have B.O. that can peel paint off the walls. Some swear like Longshoremen even when kids are around. Some stuff their faces with fast food right next to you while talking and spraying bits of food all over. Some do all three of these nearly at the same time. And most of this stuff is more socially acceptable than not wanting to shake hands with someone. But germaphobia is something that can be treated with some kind of counseling while the other stuff is how someone comes off, i.e. acceptable behavior.
I am somewhat of a germaphobe and really don't like to shake people's hands. Would it be better if I told someone that if they offered a handshake at the match start or would it be better to shake their hand and proceed to squirt some sanitizer on my hands immediately afterwords?
To those saying that they give deck building advice after a game - be careful about doing that. To many people that can come off as very condescending. I know I don't want to hear it.
Do you guys ever tire of this Modern vs. Legacy dick-swinging contest? It's not much more evolved from "my dad can beat up your dad!" kind of crap. Christ, this place is pathetic sometimes.
