So after playing in the new format, I haven't actually tried out storm yet. What goes in over my SDT? A third preordain? Rain of filth? Another Ad nauseam or something? What do you guys think?

As far as meta goes, I've been playing a lot of maverick too and I don't think it'll come back too much thanks to true-name nemesis, but definitely still somewhat see more aggro. I mentioned collective brutality since its so versatile, but still not sure if thats where we want to be. I do agree that perhaps flusterstorms are better now as soft-permission(delver/stoneblade) will be more prevalent as well as the mirror.

yeah, seems good against decks that don't play much removal...which isn't many in modern, but there a few.

Flayer has been so-so for me. I think its got great potential though, especially since it has trample. I've been planning to try out mainboard EE, seal of primordium, [bitterblossom[/c] or nameless inversion with it see how that works out. The mainboard spellbomb I already tried and that was pretty meh. Regardless, even without those cards its not too hard to get delirium with the normal 5 card types...it just usually requires a liliana or a trigger off its attack which isn't always the easiest thing to do depending on the deck.

I'm pretty sure no mainstream decklists are cutting Pulses

It's been done in the past in some metas that didn't support it, but it is one of my favorite cards and I would hate to have to submit a list that doesn't have maelstrom pulse in it.

in a format where we have far less versatile answers to the amount of versatile threats, I still think anguished unmaking is underrated. I really don't like being caught with my pants down at a GP when some deck I've never seen before in round 2 suddenly throws out a blood moon or a thundermaw hellkite or a Gideon Jura I wasn't expecting and I don't have an answer despite even having a tarmogoyf in play or something. For now I've put a single pulse in the main, as I find that I don't really need something like anguished unmaking for my most difficult matchups, but personally I will certainly be glad to put one in the board if there's space.

Although anguished unmaking is nice to have against tron because it does in fact get karn or wurmcoil off the table, you really want to be preventing them from casting those things in the first place, post board. That's the real problem. That said, I still think anguished unmaking is actually fine in the board as a catch-all for some of the other less common matchups, which can also definitely come in against tron. It's certainly better than lingering souls...but your dedicated sideboard against tron are stony silence and fulminator mage as already mentioned. So if you need more hate for tron solely, just get more of those in your board. If possible, we want cards that are proactive against tron, not reactive.

well played...but agree. I do like being able to pick off wurmcoil engines and kitchen finks and stuff at instant speed though fwiw.

what's everyone's opinion on horizon canopy? i don't see it played in any lists but honestly i've been trying it out and it's wildly good. it lets me play a slightly more diverse creature base since i can get away with fewer bobs, and it makes the deck's mana base hurt less. it gets worse without hierarch obviously, but that's the build i've been testing.

Better in more aggro builds obviously, mainly because of the colors it produces. I don't really like it without having mana dorks or knight of the reliquary to supplement it. There's too many burn players out there to play it without good reason. Your deck is playing a lot more creatures than most, iirc, so its probably fine in your deck.

On another note: why aren't people playing more Anguished Unmaking over maelstrom pulse in the main? I've found that in most matchups, I'd prefer the exile a single target at instant speed over sorcery speed destroy single target...with the potential for 2. I still like having maelstrom pulse in my 75, but I would think this deck favors anguished unmaking over pulse. Thoughts?

So lately at legacy locals a lot of people have been bringing Esper Stoneblade ft. Deathrite Shaman. They don't run enough hard permission to stop me from getting a kill when I don't need Ad Naus, but their clock is still pretty fast and I don't know how I should plan to board against them.

Anyone have advice for how to attack the deck?

massacre could be good...but not sure. honestly, its already a good match up, so its tough to say since storm doesn't really want to dilute itself if it can avoid it. Against shardless, i know bringing in extra copies of tendrils is useful, so I'd imagine the same principle applies here.

Also, there's a link to a sideboard guide in the primer. its written for tes, but the same principles apply.

I really like bob, but the meta doesn't show that bob would be good right now. Pack rat goes in on a completely different game plan. Could be sweet, but I don't imagine it would work against players that know what they're doing. I could be wrong though, you have some good points. Let us know how it works.

Ok, a random question: Has Tombstalker ever been tried out in junk/jund?

A long time ago, yes. Don't think it was any lists that had major success though.

Hell no, it's not better than any card being ran right now

    Yeah, pretty much this.

This deck isn't really the deck for tricks and synergy and stuff. It's gotta be a house on its own...and this card is not a house by itself. It requires some sort of set up for it to be ideal. Not much use for it here I'm afraid. I'm inclined to say eternal witness is probably a stronger card overall, yet hardly sees any play in this deck (let alone, in the format), so I don't really have any hopes for renegade rallier.

heads up: felidar guardian and saheeli rai is a very splinter twin-esque combo. You may need to dig up those extra copies of abrupt decay.

So, I've found that the main deck decay/chain seems to be too niche game 1, where usually I would have been better off with business. It takes too long to find a 1 of, and when drawn normally I generally wished it had been something else.

I think thoughtseize is just better than brutality. As I don't see us discarding cards to be as good. And coming out before thalia/hatebears/etc. turn 1 seems to be too valuable. Also, against chalice decks this is slow, and doesn't hit those. I think we're better off with a more rounded/quicker answer.

    Fair. Thanks for the input.
