I like the small rebel theme, Law- and Lightbringer a pretty good effects to tutor up. Zealot il-Vec is probably another rebel that should be in there. It's removal or a real threat with a Ethereal/Empyrial Armor attached.
Righteous Aura is similar to the Runes of Protection but it costs you life to use it, instead of caring about the color. It's like Paupers Story Circle. It's good against Voltron and doesn't care about Hexproof. So if you have a problem with those, especially Ascended Lawmage, it's worth another consideration.
The weakest cards in your list atm seem for me to be Kor Skyfisher, Custodi Squire, Griffin Dreamfinder, Guard Duty, Cessation, Brilliant Halo, Hobble. Maybe also cut another Pacifism effect? It's hard because they are all really close.
How would you deal with infect if you matched up with infect?
I didn't think about that much before. It's rare to see infect decks at my lgs, so lucky me because the match up isn't good afaik. But I would board in Path to Exile and some Seal of Primordium and take out Spirit Link, one Open the Armory, one or two Spiritdancer...
Just came home from my LGS wich held a trial for MKM Series Frankfurt. It was a 21 person 5 round tournament, no top cut, 1st place got the Bye and free entry the for MKM Series event.
I often play Affinity, also played Bogles in the past and lately RG Titanshift. Today I decided to play Bogles because at the last local FNM quite a lot people played blue control decks, mainly Grixis and also many aggro decks were around, few midrange and combo. All in all a meta wich should be pretty good for Bogles and I expected to see a similar metagame today.
I managed to go 4-1 in todays trial, wich was 3rd place in the end. Two other guys also played 4-1 and made 1st and 2nd place because they had a better opponent score.
I played against:
Naya Zoo (with Burning Tree Emisary and the Surge Goblin)
Abzan Midrange (my only loss, mull to 5 in one game and flood in the other)
BW Tokens
Grixis Control
Melira Combo
Been playing this deck on mtgo, pretty stock list except I'm main boarding 4 bolts and 2 anger of the gods, 2 summoner pacts, and 2 Prismatic Omens. Main boarding Anger/bolt is really shoring up my aggro matches by a lot. Pretty brutal stuff having the disruption and fogs while ramping up
I'm having some difficulty against permission decks though, how do you guys go about fighting Jeskai, UW, and Grixis?
When you guys aren't boarding out the Expeditions and removal, whats the next thing you guys cut? Explores/Farseeks? Some matchups I feel like I'm overboarding. Obviously it's super easy when you either just board out removal or Expeditions, but it does have me wondering at times.
Ghost Empire, Thien Nyugen said the Expeditions are the best ramp spells in the deck, why board them out?
Wondering if I should board in boils
I am quite new to the deck too and would like to know how people usually board? (When) Do you take out Prismatic Omen?
Also Mulligans. When do you mull hands with lands and ramp but no win condition? (Guess against all decks that can kill you quickly, except if you have disruption?)
Just no. It comes up often in discussions about this or similar decks, but the card is just not as good as it seems. Except for the few basic forest and the Valakuts you just can't afford it to play any non-mountains or non-fetches. Kessig Wolf Run may be the only exception but even that weakens the Valakut plan.
There are other options against control decks like Boil, Defense Grid, Thrun, or just playing more threats in the side like Thien did.
On the other hand it took me a while before I understood the skin invasion suggestion. It would make more sense in a deck that relies on taxation.
Sadly Skin Invasion + Ghostly Prison is a Nonbo. The creature has to attack if able, so if you just don't want to pay for Prison you don't attack with the enchanted creature. Skin Invasion doesn't force you to pay for Ghostly Prison even if you could.
So now that the whole set is spoiled, what are you guys thinking of testing?
Hmm haven't looked very thoroughly at all the cards, but so far I'm just gonna test Olivia, Mobilized for War. That is, if she's gonna drop in price / I draft her, since I find the current price of $15 too much for what she does for the deck.
Also, it's so tempting to try Westvale Abbey! Not because I think it's gonna be good but it's just such an awesome card
Yep, I am gonna try Olivia too if my get my hands on one. Westvale Abbey is nice too, makes tokens and fixes your life in the late game. Biggest problem is that it only taps for colorless.
Sorry, I didnt' know about the "it's controller" part for evoke and didn't take that into account, that is an unusual wording. I should double check next time before posting. So, have fun abusing Confusion in the Ranks even more!
About Olivia, I think she's pretty good. Sometimes whe may be pretty "bleh" but often the ability can be used to protect a key card I guess. And if you have another haste effect you don't need to use her ability for that.
So I thought the new Olivia created the third trigger also allowed to be put on the stack in a chosen order, meaning you could end up with:
Draw 2 -> Place counter + give haste -> Sac
Judge here, confirming that his works.
[Edit:] Thinking about it, this means the next time I decide to cast Mulldrifter for it's evoke cost and something like Carrion Feeder is in play, I might as well respond to the evoke sac trigger to at least give Feeder a +1/+1 counter too.
This works too.
[Edit2:] Off topic, but if correct that means evoke is some nice tech with Confusion in the Ranks
This works not, or probably not the way you want it to, because of the rules about exchanging stuff. You only exchange things if both things are on the battlefield at the time the spell/ability resolves. This is also in the Gatherer rulings of Confusion in the Ranks.
And if you trade first, you don't sacrifice the creature after that, because you can only sacrifice permanents that you control and the evoked creature would be under your opponents control at that point.
SO...love the deck played 6 mini tournys so far and top eight 4 of them. But last two times i get matched up against Ad nauseum and this deck owns mine. It does what we try to do only better vs us. What can i possibly sideboard in for this match up
Current SB is
3 Baloth
1 beast
3 natures
2 ancient grudge
1 shatter storm
2 chalice
1 spellskite
2 inferno
I also play with 1 primal command 3 anger of gods and 3 bolts MD....
My meta is eldrazi, elvves, abzhan company, ad nauseam, living end, lantern control, infect, burn...pretty much all i will play against.
THanks for some help...im thinking Blood mooning myself! against ad naseum infect and living end...and upping inferno to 3 maybe...
What are you other thoughts?
Options against Ad Nauseam that you already play are Ancient Grudge, Chalice of the Void, Beast Within and Nature's Claim. (Guess those are the cards you mean.)
Chalice on 0 slows them down, because they can't use Lotus Bloom it also counters their Pacts. Set on 1 Chalice counters Angel's Grace so that they need Phyrexian Unlife to win.
Ancient Grudge, Beast Within and Nature's Claim slow them too if you destroy their Bloom or Pentad Prism. Nature's Claim can also destroy Phyrexian Unlife, so that they can't combo of or even lose the game if you do it in response to Ad Nauseam.
Blood Moon doesn't make sense to me, not for this deck. And as Emracool said, they aren't bothered that much by it. Good cards in other colors that I can come up with are Slaughter Games, and Rule of Law.
Or maybe great with our ramp spells, can be casted turn 3 and 0 : make a 2/2 token wolf > turn 4 : -1 : bolt > turn 5 : +1 : target the token attack with a 4/4 vigilance.
Can be really great vs aggro/infect : make multiple blockers and lightning Bolt
Can also be very well vs Control : speeds up the clock, hard to remove (PW, bolt and abrupt decay proof)
Yes does nothing to accelerate the Scapefhit/Valakut plan but can be another alternate win condition.
I really want to try it in 2 copies instead of my 2 Commune with lava
That card doesn't do a thing for this deck, I guess. You said it yourself, it doesn't support our game plan.
Also it's just not that good against an aggro deck if you play it onto on empty board. You make a single 2/2 token, Affinity flies over that, Burn just kills your walker with a spell, Zoo decks also just attack regardless of your wolf and also have burn spells. Or they all just ignore the walker and kill you.
Against a control deck this is much better, but there are other ways to beat those imho, so it isn't necessary.
I miss Eland Umbra and Feat of Resistance as protection, those are way better than Stave off and God's Willing imho.
Fanatical Devotion + Angelic Renewal + Auramancer/Monk Idealist is another card draw engine with Mesa Enchantress. Fanatical Devotion is also another protection piece.
Cenn's Enlistment should be in as another win con/something to do with your lands lategame.
