Hi pete!
any plans for you and the art book crew to make the trip down south to promote at sna diego comiccon? you know the crowds and foot traffic you would get there for your book plus it would be great to see you again and meet some of the luminaries for the first time!
WOW-is that really true of Dringenberg's work? 5K?
cause now you got me thinking-i have an orignal magic painting of his from one of his portal cards that is just beautiful but its done in watercolor and thus the paper is warped but can easily be straightened out via a good matte and frame job
but now i wonder since his work seems to be so popular, how much is something like that worth?
fingers crossed and thats how nice of a guy dave is-excellent in all areas-so let us know what happens-the buyer will get the info-lets hope his drive to have it is less then yours
one other thing to think about (and im the last to offer this advice as once youve had the taste of an original nothing else comes close)...but have you thought about the original sketch for the painting-its usually way cheaper tehn the original-i dont collect original sketches cause it just doenst do it for me compared to the original, but when there is no original to be had, its the second best solution i guess
..anyway something to ponder-good luck and let us know what happens.
hey zach
i feel your pain man-so sorry
ive been collecting magic art for like 15 years and looking back ive missed out on many opportunites that i could just kick myself over.
you have great taste liking dave palumbo-he is really nice and i am lucky enough to have 2 of his originals-not the one you are looking for
my advice and concilation is
1) save you 1000-dont spend it on something else cause you have already identified the piece that you really want and although its not available now it might be
which leads me to....
2) as someone who has been collecting thi smagic art for some time ive seen trends many times-and what often happens (heck ive even done it) is that pople have their collections till tehy see another new piece that they must have, so in order to get funds right away they are forced to put some of their other pieces up on the block-save your money for if this ever happens with "totally lost" it might become available again one day and with your plea out there maybe the erpson who now owns it can work out a deal with you
the only problem is if it does go to the hands of someone who has it in their "untouchables" section all collectors have a few peices that they are taking to the grave with them. but good luck getting this piece-i know the drive to get something in the art world that is so meaningful as well as missing out on it by a few hours
cheers
ok we get it-you are a lawyer-geez-news flash, that doesnt make you better then any of us here by getting into a pissing contest. you were rude first (much what i would expect from a lawyer) calling us the "peanut gallery." im sure you have this in australia, but here in the states there is a nice little word and its called and appreciated to be a little bit...."humble" at times..maybe you skipped that course in law school:) According the MTGS Rules, Trolling is not allowed. im not even against "different type" of art-i dont want everything looking the same and digital-like i said-LOVE tucker and guay...
...but with reynolds, his art is just not aesthetically pleasing to the eye and the anatomy seems all off and awkward. plus someone above nailed it right too, its always the same pose, doing the same thing-i hate to say that his style doesnt fit magic cause i think there is room for all and thats the kinda logic the previous AD of magic tried to use on guay, so i will say leave reynolds in if he wants but dont give him such high demand or profile pieces like dragons or angels
im all for differences in art and love different sytles in magic art as guay and drew tucker are some of my fav's but something about reynolds art it just not pleasing to the eyes to me at all. its very reminiscent of cartoony type art like a phil foglio, which is fine if thats your thing, its just not mine. but i wouldnt call for him to stop doing magic cards just cause i dont like him as people tried that with my ATF rebecca guay. and there was a revolt. thank goodness guay was brought back but now she is busy with other projects
great stuff as always commanderplayer-i think you are smart to be offering these as matts to buy-they are great adn it would be foolish not to pick one up-they would look amazing blown up on a matt-i hope everyone buys one!
also been off for a while and didnt see the eternal witness-love it-very sexy
as for the girls in th esketches of th eland-i agree 100%-these are not meant to be traditonal drawings of scenes, they are anime style representaions-and their really isnt anything anime for fanboys about drawings without woem in them so draw those ladscapes away and put women in them anytime you can!
again great stuff-i bet you could make a killing on selling these as playmats-i know there is a star city games tourney coming up in dec at the LA con center-wish there was a way you could get in with htem and see if you could sell stuff at their show as there are going to be card alterers and original artists there and your stuff fits in great-maybe see if you could broker a deal with SCG to sell matts through their website.
are you going to print that time stop piece out and somehow make it a playmat? you REALLY should-it looks amazing especially when you added the colors-you would be the most popular kid in school for sure if you had it as a playmat-it looks that darn good
great job!!!! (and i am not even into anime so that should tell you something!)
