skymarck roc. Made my opponent's pack rat worthless with all of the removal I had gotten by then. Having a deck of 11 fliers was what really won me the games however. second prerelease I opened not nearly as man fliers so I ended up doing horribly since u/w didn't have many good removal spells.
I didn't think simic was that popular, I chose simic, but I wish I could choose two. Simic and Dimir are probably my favorite guilds. I'm surprised boros doesn't have more backing it since people actually know gideon will be part of that guild.
I'm going to be spending the rest of Avacyn Restored's spoiling to figure out how to make a U/R deck with him. Snapcaster mage I know will be my friend in figuring this out, but as of right now I don't know how else to use him. Maybe actually late game with the new blue planeswalker?
She's a fine and dandy planeswalker, but with how fast standard is right now, playing her on turn four or five is not enough, especially on the draw. I really hope that there was a card that said "All creatures can be targeted by spells or abilities." spirits and delvers are crazy and will continue being a staple. The only chance that this card would be able to see play is in midrange, which, still isn't fast enough for delver.
You have to also look at the fact that they are taking out the only real graveyard "mechanic" in AVR, flashback. his tends to lean toward the direction that this set will not be entirely graveyard based. This makes me feel that the UG land will not be focused on all the graveyard ideas being made.
Then, if you look at it, all of the green utility lands have some sort of creature ability while both blue and green like to have that librarian ability, sadly, since they just had a werewolf created to do that I do not expect a land to do that same thing. So I have absolutely no idea how this land will work, I'm just fairly certain it will not focus on creatures or lands in graveyard.
The nice thing about him I believe is that he has a great static ability even after he hits the field. So if they don't remove him right fro the spot, if you have spot removal of any sort (I hear black loves spot removal, but I'm not sure.) he will be a power house. Personally, I forgot all about massacre wurm until today. Time to adventure with deck building.
I think there are all different cards that people cannot wait to rotate from every set, I think real strategists in magic make decks that can overrun such things. I'm not a real strategist either because I suck at making decks.
I really want to see how this deck runs after the release of DKA, luckily I pulled a huntmaster at the prerelease so this is probably the most viable deck I'm looking at. So far, for me at least, I'm having a tough time against control. What does this deck have that can fight control off?
I agree with the fliers comment. I wasn't playing a deck with fliers (R/G), but I lost two rounds, only because I had played against fliers (when they didn't land fliers I won easily).
I was actually thinking of a deck like this\. The rare black curses are awesome, and then curse of echoes is great against tempo decks if you last long enough (I mana leak your mana leak yay!). The big problem I see is all the mana you need to play the curses. Curses! (pun intended)
I'm just throwing out a card idea, Grimoire of the Dead. Would this guy help with the reanimator strategy and maybe even recur those nasty creatures seeing play in other decks (I'm looking at you geist of saint traft). It may also play well if you don't have the right mana or right tool boxes in play.
I'm very mad at standard right now. It's practically the same exact thing as last year. The beginning of the year was all G/R ramp and now, all of a sudden, a U/W deck takes over the format and does not seem to be getting any sort of hate on by WOTC. So I'm expecting at the end of the year to see some new U/R combo deck that is sort of helped by some sort of toolbox... I miss the first month of standard this year rotation...
I'd find it very entertaining if they randomly decide to make a third mikaeus in the next set and he goes from human to zombie to geist. That would be the only way i can see them being able to make three mikaeuses if the second one's a zombie, but hey, I know it won't happen, just a slight dream...
