They do have to choose an actual card, though. They can't name a card that doesn't exist, even if you both know the one they're talking about. That's also illegal.

As an aside, it also has to be a card legal in the current format. I do not know if this also applies to creature types.

I like how you leave out Mythics like:

    Baneslayer Angel
    Jace, the Mindsculptor
    Batterskull
    Primeval Titan

That were at $30+ at prerelease, and didn't actually go down for quite a while while being extremely relevant to their Standard format.

Ever consider this to be exception rather than the rule? Of course not, that would differ from your opinion.

Baneslayer was still 12-15 around prerelease, and you could get them on the cheap for presale.

I think they should of just brought back team Rochester. It would of made the Pros who wanted the team event to come back happy, and allow them to test the reintroduction of normal Rochester.

It depends on the varience of thr standings at the second to last round. With greater variance it seems fair but if a situion like there are two x-0 and two x-1 then they all draw in to auto play first if the quarters 1v8 2v7 3v6 4v5. The remaining four at x-2 just draw in as well since they see that they'll auto be on the draw (for the most part) so they just draw in as well....

Never does it work out that perfect, usually there will be a play down, or some one who might not make it on draws do to breakers. Usually X-2s cant draw into a GP or PTQ top 8.

My first thought was "finally being a judge is finally financially worth it for them for once, great!" Judges do so much and seem to get so little.

These command towers are going to be a hundred bucks easy, people see EDH as a lifetime investment and realize cards like this will probably only go up in value.

getting 400+ dollars worth of cards for judging a PT every once in a while is really needed, judges are pretty much like free labor for Hasbro and should be rewarded much better for their efforts.

Our you actually a judge? Because judging a Pro Tour now, you are actually a contract employee for WotC, They give you enough CASH to buy your plane ticket, hotel, and still have money left over. My level 2 friend came home with over 600$ before selling his judge foils when he went to a Pro Tour last year.

And also, with less judges needed at Pro Tours because of no side events, Judge Promos are going to be a little more rare. GP packs are so much smaller than the PT ones.

Cause shooting a gun at a running target in a convention room full of magic players is a smart idea? You are going to most likely hit an innocent bystander than the thief unless you are a world class marksman. And then I wouldn't give it a good chance. This may have been some of the stupidest advice I have ever seen.

And where we are located (SLC) I do not expect a very large GP. Most likely right around 800ish people. So I do not think the extra sets will be added. And do hope more people attend because of this.

Also with the rash of thefts, there may need to be additional security hired at some of these larger events. Once a thief gets stun gunned, it will put a worry into others. Not that it would be a complete deterrent. But if you get a dozen to a half dozen guys in uniforms just patrolling, trained on what to look out for. Also put names on boxes and binders to have some sort of proof if yours gets lifted.

    Next up to bat, Gerryt!

In all seriousness, I liked this guy. He stuck to what he knew, and had consistent finishes for most of his grinding days. I don't think people should instantly start treating him like he committed the worst crime ever, because from what I see, nobody here knows the exact reason why he was banned. With that said, he did indeed draw 8 cards in his opener. But I also don't think we can immediately jump to calling him a cheater, and accept that he could have made a mistake and miscounted when he started the game.

He should of known looking at his hand and called a judge on himself if he drew an extra card on accident. I would know immediately if I drew an extra card in the first couple turns of the game. It was pretty clear that cheating happened. And he got punished and will be looked at more closely in the future if he continues to play after the suspension.

Good news! Hopefully that is enough time for the draft websites to get their stuff in order so we can all start practicing for prerelease!

To bad we won't know the common print runs so the draft sites mean more...

no need to give judges tournament staples when they arent even allowed to compete

as long as the card is worth $$, everyone's happy

Since when are judges not allowed to play? In the tournaments they help run sure. But I like me some wastelands ect ect.

Confused level 1 judge. That has worked on and played in GPs in the last year

Shuffling is a very important aspect of them game, and the one where people can cheat with common card tricks. It is one of few things that is required for every game of magic to start.

Quick question to everyone. Whats more damaging to a new format?

    A. Having a smaller Banned list and having the format feel like the wild west for a few weeks till they make the needed bans.

    B. Ban everything even remotely good and gradually take things off the ban list.

A is actually a very long process cause they do not like to do emergency bans, and also, no one enjoyed Pro Tour Rome (circa academy and memory jar and hightide.) Unchecked combo is nothing anyone wants to play with.FoW makes legacy and vintage a format.

I think the banlist is fine for now, People have just got attached to decks they wanted to play during the speculation. And that is causing a lot of the out rage.

People should just stop ****ting on the new format before trying it.
