I pulled a miscut ornithopter, the bottom left and top left corners are straight edged, pointed. The top right and bottom right are regular rounded corners. Have someone interested in trading for it, but unsure of what sort of value it would hold. Any thoughts?

Hey guys, I know the card isn't in amazing condition, but I have a Time Stretch that has crimping along the top. It doesn't go too deep into the card, but it is definitely noticeable. Would this up the value of the card at all?

Sorry for the pink glare, bad camera.

my question is: if a card would put a card into play tapped and attacking (ala Preeminent Captain) can it put a card with defender into play tapped and attacking?

    A) Not allow you to play the card
    B) Play the card not attacking not tapped
    C) Play the card tapped, not attacking
    D) Play the card tapped, attacking

  • posted a message on WOTC Policy for Pack Payout at PreRes?
Went to a prerelease at pastimes card shop (Niles, IL) this weekend. This wasn't my first time at the shop so I came in with a certain expectation of how things would go. For the most part things were ok, but there were a few things that rubbed me the wrong way this time around. I arrived early to sign up and went to get food. We got back & settled in. The tournament announcers decided to announce that they were out of the black seeded packs at this time (instead of at sign-up). They also then proceeded to gradually run out of each color until they got to a point where they announced all players who hadn't been lucky enough to get their color of choice would be receiving blue. Lots of groans and irritation. Then halfway through the tournament they announced a change in prize pack payout (this was mostly irrelevant to me). Then as the tourney was set to wrap up they made another announcement that due to WOTC policy they were only allowed to give each player 3 packs of the core set out of what they had won, and that the rest of the cards would be shipped to the players a week later on release. They apologized for the situation but assured us that it was Wizard's policy and that they would never run things in such a manner. This may not seem like the biggest of deals, but after going 4-0-1 (ID) I only was able to take home 3 packs, kind of a bummer. The big problem though is that this is when I could be making the most money off of those packs as a reseller. Instead I have to wait til release drops to get my product, likely meaning there will be a decrease in value across the board for M15. Is this in deed a WOTC policy they implemented, or just some random BS they spouted out to cover themselves? I did a brief amount of googling and was unable to find anything like this.

Mods: I wasn't sure if this fit into store discussion, since the base question is re: is there actually a wotc policy like this in place

The question presented doesn't allow for much flexibility.

    Maybe asking:

Was A+E suspending this man the right choice?

Would allow for more creative answers.

I've never seen the show, nor do I know who he is, but with my legal background A+E suspending him is probably the best thing they could have done for their own interests as a company and a television station. They aren't suspending him because of his viewpoint - they're suspending him for sharing it through a public medium --- which will without a doubt come back to hurt the company. It's probably somewhere in his contract that maps this all out.

I was trying to think of some precedent here and the closest I can get is when Don Imus made the nappy headed hoes comment.

  • posted a message on Actual efficacy of logic as a tool of persuasion?
    Quote from TomCat26
What is the actual efficacy of logic as a tool of persuasion in your experience?

I have come to the realization that when it comes to actual persuading people, actual logic is just not that useful of a tool in life.

I've always placed a great emphasis on the importance of logic as a means of persuading people. In the past I used to believe that forging stronger logical reasoning skills would strengthen my powers of persuasion. But in fact, this just has not been the case.

There are a number of reasons why someone is persuaded over to ones side, but so rarely is the case that someone is persuaded by another's sheer logic.

In fact to put too much emphasis on logic is bound to cause one many problems in life.

What is your take on this?

I love logic. It makes things so simple to me, and its one of the main reasons I am going into the Legal profession. It also gives me me headaches.

Without reading the thread (at work) I have come to a few conclusions on using logic to persuade people:

    1) What is logical to one person may not be logical to another. While you would think that logic would be set in stone, however the truth of the matter is that logic can be individual to each person. If it makes crystal sense to you, it may not to them.

    2) Some people aren't interested in logic. It's an unfortunate truth that people will just be unreceptive towards a logical approach just based on the personality and demeanor they've cultivated.

    3) The best way I have found to get someone to bend to logic is, roughly, through the use of the Socratic method and analogy. These are both [ib]extremely[/b] powerful tools in discussion and persuasion. My ultimate goal is to take the person step by step through a scenario and "guide" them to an understanding of what I'm trying to present - but the key part is that I'm not telling them "Blah Blah Blah X X X Blah Blah", I'm leading them down a path that results in their brain coming to the conclusion on their own. When a person is normally unreceptive to the frontal presentation of logic, you can waste hours bashing your head against their wall. But if you get them to think that it's really their idea, you've already made them do most of the work for you.

    4) The power of analogy; analogies are amazingly powerful. The idea behind them is to draw similarities between a situation that is easily grasped by the subject, and a situation that follows the point you are trying to make. Ultimately you are trying to get the tao, or the essence of the action, interaction or situation you want to explain but they can't grasp, and take that and port it to a situation they can. Basically this means that the characters or settings change, but "jist" of the entire situation remains consistent.

The best thing I've done is learn when to just not share my thoughts. Being a more logical person tends to make you a bit a more calculating, detached person I feel.

he probably just did this so that he could impress Alex Bertoncheaty to not get caught. Bertoncini just got off of a 2 year ban for a similar style of play.

Although, truth be told.. I really think Matt Costa is a nice person and an honest player..so it was probably an accident.

There's a difference between potentially forgetting two damage along the way, and trying to use a card in a way which you know it does not work.

The caveat being that I'm assuming Costa didn't know.

  • posted a message on Dojo Trade Bot - MTGO (Tix)
Dojo Trade Bot is a line of bots on MTGO that offers, among a full range of normal options, to buy MTGO tix as well. The owner buys tix under the bot name "FullSets".

    Their website is here: http://dojotradebots.com/index.php

I personally have completed two transactions with them, both went smoothly. I thought I'd share this information in case any one was looking to liquidate some tickets with security.

Ok, I can vouch for the FullSets, just did a very quick transaction with him.

Anyone with a bit more history able to vouch for FullSets? FullSets is one of the dojotradebot branches, so its really more about vouching for Dojotradebot.

How many are you selling and were you looking to get more than the .95 that we were offering? If you aren't selling too many I could honor the old .95 price since you posted this before we dropped our price to .90. MSG me with your screen name if you want to do that.

Any reason for this drop? Just curious, but it is a very sizable difference.

Edit: Is this in direct response to people are getting fed up with WOTC and cashing out?

  • posted a message on Why aren't prices listed in the "Sales Lot" forum more competitive?
    Quote from Biefall
I think the whole point is, if he wanted to buy something at a store's price, he would go to a store instead.

If I go buy an used car from a dude's post in craiglist I expect it to be cheaper than the one at a legit establishment.

Thats how things go sadly, if I find the very same model of a vacuum cleaner at a flea market that I can find at Walmart, I expect to pay less because if not I would go to Walmart.

It doesnt apply to MTGS only, it applies to life in general, if anyone is trying to sell anything, they have t beat the store's prices.

But personally speaking I rather pay the same to a "human being" than a corporation, so I am happy with paying equal value.

I get this idea. I understand why you feel this way, however:

The card market does not work the same way a car market or a grocery chain does.

Simply stated: YES a vacuum that is the same price at a flea market and at Walmart is far more likely to be bought at the walmart. The customer gets peace of mind that they can return a defective product among other things. If a place is offering a lifetime warranty on vacuums and Captain Shmuck wants to sell his vacuum at the same price they do without the warranty, he's clearly going to fail.

If you were to try to make this analogous to the card world there would be a few problems:

Cards don't come with lifetime warranties. There is not a lot a store can offer me that would make me want to pay a higher price for the same collectible good another person can offer me. In this analogy the Walmart would become SCG, the flea market becomes MTGS. Let's use Stormbreath Dragon as an example.

On SCG Stormbreath is listed at: //sales.starcitygames.com/search.php?substring=stormbreath+dragon&go.x=0&go.y=0&t_all=All&start_date=2010-01-29&end_date=2012-04-22&order_1=finish&limit=25&action=Show%2BDecks&card_qty[1">=1"]29.99 for a NM copy. A playset would be ~120.00 with no tax or shipping involved.

On TCGPlayer that same Stormbreath Dragon can be had for 19 shipped. You want a playset? You have the option to pay 19.48 per and get your playset shipped for free for a grand total of ~80.

You are saving $40 for NOT going to SCG.

How about channelfireball? They have Stormbreath listed at 24.99 a pop, which would bring your playset total to $100.00.

So clearly TCGPlayer has the best deal for a player here, they get coverage from TCGPlayer so they can shop with confidence, and they are paying astronomically less than the "Wal-Marts" of the card world. Therefore, why would I ever pay more than what I could get the cards for at TCGPlayer?

Essentially the three Stormbreath Dragons the guy who lives next door to me are worth the same exact thing that SCG's Stormbreath Dragons are. Yet SCG wants me to pay an additional $40 for their cards. Um. Why would I want to do this ever?

    This leads into the next part;

TCGPlayer has made a system where they are allowing ANYONE to open a storefront through them, allowing them to make money on the margins. What this means is that Captain Shmuck of MTGS can now instantly slot his cards in on TCGPlayer, undercutting the next lowest on a card by whatever amount he chooses, and his card WILL SELL because of the sheer volume of people who use TCGPlayer for pricing/shopping.

Captain Shmuck is loving his new way of selling cards and its SUPER easy and uses a system he is familiar with already, TCGPlayer. He no longer has the incentive to post here on MTGS. The people on MTGS have to fight with the fact that far less players see their cards than ANY OTHER MARKETER and as such have to advertise harder and offer special deals, usually bulk deals or free shipping after a certain point. As a result, if you are willing to spend an extra 30 minutes a day, you can find some really good deals. But no one wants to take a huge cut on something that has an established value just because they aren't an established store like SCG or TCGPlayer.

Remember this is a COLLECTIBLE card game. The price is driven by demand. In a way the more appropriate analogy would be a stock market. The value of a car is forever going down, but the value of the cards is in flux, affected by supply & demand.

I wouldn't expect PersonA to sell me their 100 shares of Apple Stock for cheaper than an established Broker, because at the end of the day I'M STILL GETTING 100 SHARES OF APPLE STOCK.
