With Aetherworks Marvel you are casting Ulamog and will get any on cast trigger. This is because Aetherworks marvel specifically says cast. However Aid from the Cowl and Recurring Nightmare are not casting so will not trigger. They say to put the creature directly onto the battlefield from a different zone.
This is correct. If the card says you are/can cast then you are casting it regardless of what you pay to do so. With Omniscience you pay zero mana, but you are still casting the card and would get the cast trigger on Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger.
Just finished putting this deck together on MTGO and have played 5 games so far going 4-1. Loss was to U/R Delver which came out too fast. I’ve played a mix of games with and without Shardless Agent and I’ve had a couple of cool wins.
I'm not convinced that you are actually playing real opponents in the quick battle section. My record is 111-8 with 3 of those losses due to the app crashing.
The main problem with this card is that it's a terrible top deck, and I think it will be that nail in the coffin that really keeps this guy down. I think he's good, should be played, and will probably see play, but late game it's pretty bad.
It must be true Wizards doesn't think about other formats when making cards (like Eldrazi in Modern didn't already prove this) because this thing will be crazy good in Legacy.
Cast on T2 with Daze back up. Daze opponent's next spell.
T3 - Brainstorm, Ponder, Probe, attack wouldn't be too terribly difficult to pull off but won't happen all the time.
This thing will easily be flipping on T4 at the latest and puts Goyf to shame. Also has potential for Snapcaster shenanigans and being out of bolt range on the unflipped side is a huge plus. Buy your playset ASAP.
All I want to say is that you would need to ban wasteland, port and price of progress if you want a RL less legacy. Port and waste basically get a lava spike tacked on, good lord.
If you make people play shocklands, red delver is now basically unplayable, fetch, shock, daze my steam vents is 6 life. Shardless is also unplayable, you take too much damage from the mana base. Basically, all of our fair decks get pushed out of the format, burn loves it when its opponents either lose massive tempo, or need to bolt themselves twice.
I agree. You can't simply take a legacy deck and substitute in the shocklands. It would be like starting a game at 10 life. Daze would be unplayable for the scenario above.
Maybe they can make each player start with an emblem that says "lands entering the battlefield under your control can't cause you to take damage" or whatever it needs to be in order to avoid the 2 damage. That would get around the reserve list as you're not reprinting anything.
So I just went ahead and got the dual lands I was planning on getting later now. Good or bad?
Also, I'm looking forward to cheap wastelands; I'll be able to run death and taxes, jund and esper mentor all at the same time! Between that and card availability, maybe legacy will start firing in my area
Duals are going to skyrocket because there will be additional demand. If anyone wants "cheap" duals buy them now.
Never seen a player in my local shop run Dig in any of those decks, or at all in legacy for that matter. Just seems odd to me that if that card was that powerful that it needed banning, why weren't people playing it in the decks it is apparently good in? The general consensus in my local group is that no one is effected by Dig being banned since no one played it.
Where do you play, sounds like a place I want to go and play legacy.
Maybe I missed it, but I'm surprised there isn't much talk about Sensei's Divining Top with how much of the field is comprised of Miracles. It seems like everyone wants to see SDT banned from what I read, but I'd love to see a counterbalance ban. SDT is annoying because its slow and allows for easy instant speed miracles, but none of that is more annoying that a counterbalance lock. Miracles can still be a deck without CB, but is much less powerful without SDT and definitely not as appealing.
Any opinions on where goyf will bottom out and when? Looks like it's been bouncing around between mid 50s and low 60s, anyone expect it to even start to approach $50? Or is that wishful thinking?
Sometimes, but overall it's not too often and seems to be more based on the deck/strategy. I get it the most when I play my modern 8rack deck, occasionally with my vintage mill deck.
I don't think it was a secret for long. LSV announced he was "unveiling" a card before the spoiler was officially released.
This is correct. If the card says you are/can cast then you are casting it regardless of what you pay to do so. With Omniscience you pay zero mana, but you are still casting the card and would get the cast trigger on Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger.
You can watch it on YouTube.
Cool Win #1
I had everything in place to go off except a Misthollow Griffin, my opponent attacks me with an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and hands me a Misthollow Griffin.
Cool Win #2
I was at one life after being hit by a flipped Delver of Secrets with my board being Deathrite Shaman, Food Chain and 6 lands. My opponent had 2 cards in hand and I had one card in hand which was Fierce Empath. I draw Misthollow Griffin and cast it which gets countered by Force of Will. I then use my Deathrite Shaman to exile it. Sac Deathrite Shaman to Food Chain and use my last land to cast Fierce Empath to get Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Sac Fierce Empath to Food Chain to cast Misthollow Griffin from exile and then go off.
Late game is when you pitch it to force.
Put this in a delver deck with some combo of probes/ponder/brainstorm/FoW/Daze/Etc. and its very easy to cast 4 instant/sorceries.
Cast on T2 with Daze back up. Daze opponent's next spell.
T3 - Brainstorm, Ponder, Probe, attack wouldn't be too terribly difficult to pull off but won't happen all the time.

No kidding. Sounds ripe for the taking.
At least you're here to set everyone straight.
