Hi Everyone, a few more questions as I put together my list...
Why not a single Eye of Ugin as a tutor for any colourless creatures? It would seem to make make map less of a dead draw in the late game as you can simply find any of your answers.
Thanks bmp, that all makes sense. Except Inkwell being a slow clock given it has the same power as Titan, but tapping all your blue mana sources doesn't sound like we want to be doing either.
Hi Everyone, first time poster in this thread. I'm putting together my MonoU Tron list and have a few questions about card choices (sorry if these have discussed):
Why Platinum Angel over Platinum Emperion? The reason I ask is that with the angel your life total can still change, meaning that if they ever get rid of her you could be at one life. With the emperion your life total can't change, so if they ever get rid of it you have the same life total as when you played it. Also, eight toughness makes it harder to remove, even if it is a less effective attacker.
Has anyone given thought to Blightsteel Colossus or Inkwell Leviathan as one of finishers? Both are staples in other formats, so I'm sure there has been some thought put into inclusion. Seems like colossus is basically game, and the leviathan has shroud to blank targeted removal. Not necessarily suggesting both, but does one deserves a SB slot? Or are their mana costs to much?
Really like the idea of UW Knights. Has there been any thought to adding Adaptive Automaton(additional lord effect), Phantasmal Image (similar to Fish and additional lord effect),Mutavault (sudo knight)? Thanks!
I've been brainstorming ways to make sure Brago successfully deals damage to an opponent, and one would be flashing him out at the end of turn. Does Teferi allow you to cast your commander as if it had flash?
Hey Palinchron, I've been looking for a competitive Brago stax list. Any chance you can post or link to one of the lists you're referring to?
Also, interested in your comment on Mox Dimond and Chrome Mox. Since you can't really blink these with Brago without imprinting additional cards, I would have thought they would be less useful?
For the past couple of years I’ve been borrowing whatever random commander deck my friends weren’t playing. Although fun to see what they have come up with, the format has grown on me to the point where I want to invest and build my own (semi) competitive multiplayer commander list. I own many of the staples listed below, but rounding out the list will require some investment, so I would really appreciate your feedback both on my choice of commander, and on my card choices.
I think I’ve settled on Merieke Ri Berit due to my play style. I like to be reactive to my opponents, control the board, and prevent them from establishing themselves by:
Piloting a deck that has a toolbox of answers;
Preventing my opponents from executing their game plan;
Recurring / reusing creatures, spells, and artifacts from my graveyard;
Drawing cards;
Abusing creatures with powerful ETB effects; and
Winning through attrition and strategic play.
I almost always find myself in ESPER, BANT, or ANA. Knowing that, I narrowed down my list of commanders to these (if there are commanders you think I should consider, or if based on my play style you think I should reconsider one of these please let me know):
ESPER - Merieke Ri Berit (didn’t want to get into Zur or Sharumm because they seem to come with too much baggage)
In the end I wanted access to white for spot removal and equipment, and black for sweepers and the potential to abuse Rune-Scarred Demon and Bitterblossom. Not the most scientific rational, which is why I’m reaching out to you know!
Hay everyone, new to this thread as I'm looking for inspiration for my 1v1 commander deck. Saw the following card in the latest spoiler and wondered what everyone thought:
Court Street Denizen (2W)
Creature - Human Soldier
Whenever another white creature enters the battlefield under your control, tap target creature an opponent controls.
A) does the angel token trigger his ability?
B) is it good enough to play?
So I'm playing in a modern tournament next weekend. What are people playing in their sideboards? It's not in my home town, so no real idea of the meta, but I assume most people will be playing PTQ decks...
Hay, I’m glad to see people posting in this thread again! This is still my favorite pet deck, and still puts up really good results when piloted properly. I find many people who try to pilot it are too impatient, and don’t realize that this is completely reactive deck that grinds matches out... I love it.
@BattleFish - Abrupt Decay isn’t that big of an issue. Like technogeek5000 said, if you are playing the deck properly a Scepter going to the grave isn’t a problem. Also, you should never put Mana Leak on a Scepter, as it’s to Easy to play around. Equally, you should almost never put remand on a Scepter, I only make exceptions for other control and combo decks.
@technogeek5000 - I really like your list. Supreme Verdict is a card I’ve been meaning to try. How has it been performing? Those spots in my deck are taken by Vedalken Shackles, which has been performing really well as a piece of control, a win condition, and an artifact for Thirst. I would really suggest adding one Academy Ruins and one Buried Ruin. When in play they basically allow disregard artifact hate... I like them so much I’ve added Tolaria West to search them up when needed. Also, Random Nerd is right about Path...
My latest list is posted below (sideboard is just draft, always testing new things):
Just looking through the M13 set list... It would have to be a dedicated list but Phylactery Lich is an indestructible 5/5 with its counter on Darksteel Citadel. If nothing else it would be fun to test.

From there, why not run Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre or Kozilek, Butcher of Truth? Drawing cards and destroying permanents seems to be a good answer in many situations.

@Valarin: I like the idea of fogging affinity and infect every turn. I'll give it a try!
