Maybe you should get 3 byes and actually play the event to make day 2. Yeah, Foil tarmogoyf is a lot of money, but if I made the effort to go to Vegas or some other place and play in the main event, I'm going to play the main event rather than doing DGM draft which I could've done in my LGS instead of spending 200$ on travel and hotel.

IMO The money you gain from that foil goyf doesn't make up for the fact that you've just made 30-60% of your expensive weekend away pointless.

Except on Saturday it's 3 and 6pm MMA drafts. 9PM MMA mini masters.
Sunday at 9 10 and 11 am there are MMA events, and one at 5pm.

This is not counting the MMA sealed and mma mini masters you can also attend on Friday.

    "entrusted you with the responsibility"?

More like they are FORCING you. Salt in the wounds if you open a $$$ pack to register and get passed a steaming pile to keep.

If you open a pool with money cards, you can drop before passing with no penalty, other than not being able to play in that event. Valid if you open up a foil tarmo or something, since there are plenty of side events.

"Possible formats include Sealed Deck, Standard, Extended, Modern, or Return to Ravnica Block Constructed. Contact the store or check the event locator for the format of each individual Grand Prix Trial."

My LGS is doing a sealed Modern Masters for $45 and a $25 drafts (2 packs per player into the prize pool). Believe it.

"For events held May 4, 2013 or later, if the chosen format is Sealed Deck, the top 8 for the event will be Booster Draft or Sealed Deck (at the discretion of the store running that Grand Prix Trial). The product mix for the event will be 2 Return to Ravnica, 2 Gatecrash boosters and 2 Dragon Maze boosters per player for the Sealed Deck portion, 1 Dragon Maze, 1 Gatecrash and 1 Return to Ravnica boosters per player in the Top 8 draft, in that order. If a Sealed Deck Top 8 is run instead of a draft, players will play with the same sealed deck they played in the Swiss rounds."

You can host all the MM sealed you want, it just won't be a Vegas GPT. Helps when you read beyond the first bullet.

A place by where I live is doing a sealed MM Grand Prix trial event all day on Saturday for just $45, they are getting a lot if product. Side drafts will go on all day as well.

Too bad it won't be an official GPT then, since GPT Vegas can only be sealed RTR block: https://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=mtg/event/grandprix/lasvegas13/trials

Ha, no that sounds pretty good. But how are you doing that on T2?

T1> 1 drop (or evasive 2 drop if you have mox)
T2>Strings, untap the 2 mana and cipher onto your creature. Attack. Ciphered Strings on the stack. Float 2. Strings resolves. Float 2 more, flash in Venser.

But it's not really ramp. It gives you access to more overall mana during your turn, but not at once. I can't use 3 lands to play a 5-drop, for example.

Unless that 5 drop is an instant or has flash, of course. Possible T2 venser shaper savant bounce your land? Does that excite only me? haha

I've been known to force Ux tempo a lot, especially when I see Edric of GoST. This just seems so perfect for those decks. On my turn, I always want to be clearing blockers with bounce or removal, and with this trigger every turn on an evasive weenie, I can keep putting on the pressure and always have mana for a counterspell up, or just keep putting on even more pressure.

Hands of Binding is obviously better at clearing blockers, but it's not as flexible as Hidden Strings. I'm not sure if blue has had any better acceleration than this. Tezzeret is a 5 drop and can only do artifacts. This can do artifacts, lands, and creatures (though not that many creatures in my cube have activated ablities).

Either way, I'm definitely testing it out. The main knock on it is I'm not sure any non-tempo decks would want this. Maybe artifacts deck that run Tolarian Academy. Or any bounceland/mana rock heavy deck in general.

    Hidden Strings 1U
    Sorcery
You may tap or untap target permanent, then you may tap or untap another target permanent
    Cipher
    Common

Is it just me, or is this card bonkers? With the amount of acceleration in cube, I'd think any cube that support Ux tempo has to have this, right? And even if it's not true acceleration (since you have to have a combat step in between), I can imagine blue decks tapping out main phase 1 for threats, then having mana available for counterspells after Hidden Strings untaps lands.

Not sure about the applications in anything except EDH.

It has been said a lot already, but in edh, this card will be very spicy for Edric. It is everything that deck could ever desire and more.

Yeah, I've been itching to replace Veil of Birds and this does it with an upside!

It does seem pretty insane, not hard at all to mill yourself for 10.

MBC is definitely now a thing, black got some great cards.

It's like no one actually reads the card. Phantasm says 10 cards in an OPPONENT's graveyard.

Not going to make any splashes outside of limited or block, I think. However, this land will probably be pretty important in block since triple colored decks in block have such terrible manabases currently.

Also a great target for Emancipation Angel.

Infinite Reflections anything that comes into the battlefield with a token.

    New creature lands.

The token that comes with it is a makes a token, which makes a token.

This enchantment can instantly win games...

The word non-token appears on that card twice.

Except all the flicker effects in this set don't make the card go back to its owner's control.

Except you do it in response to the control exchange trigger and when it comes back it's a new object and that trigger fizzles.

For future reference, this is not done using stops. To retain priority, hold down the control ('Ctrl') key when making a click for a spell or ability and you will retain priority when it goes on the stack.

Thanks for the tip! The MTGO interface is so convoluted. Things you do IRL without blinking an eye seem to use some sort of Cryptic Command on MTGO.

    Final Deck:

    Game Summaries:

Round 1: In all honesty, my opponent was playing a pretty bad mill deck with ghoulcaller bells and Dream Twists. Not much to say and you can watch the video if you want.

Round 2: I almost punt away a game because my MTGO was not set to stop after putting something onto the stack. I wanted to put Daybreak Ranger's fight onto the stack, then Spidery Grasp him for value, but I didn't get a chance to cast the grasp. Luckily, I win anyway on the back of a flying Rage Thrower.

Second game he destroys me with a Reaper of the Abyss after making me discard my blasphemous act. Third game I do some early damage with Travel Preperation + two drops. He managed to stabilize, but I end up Travel Preperations-ing my 1/1 Avacyn's Pilgrim, then untapping it with spidery grasp and attacking in for exactly 4 for the win.

Round 3: Heretic's Punishment + Lumberknot (he had Geist of Saint Traft out). Heretic's Punishment + Rage Thrower (he was missing blue, but manged to cast 2 midnight hauntings). I win 2-0.
