A couple of years ago when I was really getting back into Magic, I was grabbing all of those decks I could find that weren't outrageously priced, mostly between eBay and Amazon. I think I averaged between $40-50 per Planechase deck in 2014, except for the 2009 Zombie one which was around $100 then. I see some Planechase sealed decks occasionally at GPs and keeping it sealed is definitely the best way to go. The only oddity was one of the decks was missing one plane and there was a duplicate Llanowar and because they were so old Wizards couldn't offer a replacement so I had to wait until Planechase anthology to get the missing planar card.
At my store, too many players draft Boros from too few packs and split all the good cards among equally poor decks while I have my choice of everything Dimir. It usually ends up a couple open Boros bombs while the newer players keep drafting R/W without real support and don't notice packs going around with multiple playable U/B/G cards.
I'd once considered stopping double sleeving my decks, until one day a friend was shuffling her deck, split the corner of a sleeve, and tore the corner of her foil Botanical Sanctum off the edge. Put an end to those thoughts.
1) This is likely an attempt to circumvent the costs associated with background checks that Wizards doesn't want to pay for by using existing checks as part of corporate hiring while also managing to be another middle finger to LGS around the world.
2) I don't know what storefronts Gamestop has in Seattle, but in my corner of the world Gamestop has barely enough space for a cardboard standee of Call of Duty 18: Putin's Revenge let alone tables and chairs for a PPTQ.
After weeks of having casual FNM events with barely enough people for half a pod, the last few weeks have seen a 30 player PPTQ the week before and drafts with at least full 8. Nothing changed with the store and nothing changed with the draft format, but I left last Friday with packs and a foil promo Opt instead of a pack and a foil fliped Illusion token and a guy left with a foil promo Noble and RPTQ invite.
You jest, and I dont want to overstate this guys importance to the world, but stunts like this do impact the bottom line.
Which is probably why he went ahead and made the apology-boxes-are-ok video in case Magic gets bought by Disney, Disney sees how his content impacts the sales, and sends the Disney assassination bots to purge his page. He can pledge his fealty to the frozen head of Walt, who is seated on a throne made out of Tree of Redemptions turned in by "no Tree guarantee" stores.
Checked my mail and Rudy stated he hasn't been able to reproduce the issue. Also, since he has been the only one with proof at this time and not just reporting on Reddit I'm going to side with him and say the boxes are safe.
I wonder what damage his little click bait video did.
A couple of reprints of the common/uncommon cards in manaless dredge could bring its price down. I think I'd have spent more on a playset of Street Wraiths before M25 than Chancellors.
Thank you for this. When trying to get interest in legacy at my LGS, the largest complaint is the cost because of reserve list duals. I'm going to share this with anyone who says legacy is too expensive yet regularly spends more than this to keep up with standard.
Was it burn? I played a guy at a GP with an entire foil/promo modern burn deck. Expedition lands, foil textless bolt, the whole works.
