I love this Chandra, but there is no way that she is better than Nahiri in Modern. She'll see play in nonwhite red decks, but she isn't going to be seeing plan in Jeskai decks any time soon.

She is better than Nahiri easily outside of her ultimate. Nahiris ultimate just happens to win the game easier than Chandras and she ticks up quickly. Chandra is better otherwise.

Mardu wouldn't mind playing either of them. It also helps people that don't want to/can't afford 8-10 fetches play a good fast deck in modern for a bit cheaper. Could save a few hundred bucks in paper.

Well, you want to pair Bob with lifegain. Maybe with the BW fastland coming out we'll see some BW lists with him, like BW hatebears.

That deck already exists pretty much with exile effects and wasteland stranglers and such. No reason you couldn't and shouldn't play bob there. That said Mardu has lots of builds that show up sometimes with bob. Sometimes with Mentor or Pyromancer and tokens or more creature based builds.

I don't see Gonti as being playable in modern in maindecks. Way too many complete misses. It seems like a standard card that may even be fringe there. So many decks you just won't get something useful with his ability and it can miss completely.

Chandra on the other hand is going to be insane Grin People talking about +2 mana a turn like you cant possible cast multiple spells per turn with it... that is its best use not to ramp to 7 or something.

Lots of spells in hand? Chandra lets you play more of them faster.
No spells in hand? Chandra draws you a spell or gets a land out of your way and shocks opponent.
+ Protects herself with a game ending ult. The only thing that sucks is her protection ability is a -3 vs a -1 on Jace for example. If it was a -2 she would be that much more insane.

Her mana ability is a little awkward with 3 color decks so you may want to play fire lit thicket, cascade bluffs or Graven Cairns 1-2 of with her.

Nowhere near Jtms level... So calm down guys...

Her third ability is exactly the same as Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker. With exact costing. It feels really uninspiring IMO.

She just falls short of great (outside of standard). When I mean great I'm looking at jtms, vryn's prodigy, lotv, Gideon (ally of zendikar), Elspeth knight errant, Tezz AOB, Garruk Wildspeaker.

As a player, you really, really, really don't want to use her minus ability as much as possible because it sets her loyalty so far back.

Metallurgic Summonings is a crap mythic. But extremely fun. Just the type of mythic I like.

Oh my you are in for a shock. The turn you play her you are only -2 mana - thats insane. You can play her, bolt your opponents two best threats and have +2 mana on each turn afterwards. She will be very strong in controlling/midrange decks in modern. Comparing her to Sarkhan is just crazy man. Sarkhan costs 5 and she is 4...

I think this card is instantly the best card in standard, and will see play in multiple Modern decks.

Expect her to be 50+ dollars to preorder guys Grin

Chandra seems like an AMAZING fit in a Mardu control style deck. Can't wait to play 2-3 of them with 2-3 Lillys and a ton of removal. Like Jace she does it all. Acceleration, Card draw and protects herself somewhat.

I expect her to be great in standard and modern.

Again it should 100% STAY LEGAL. But if youre a total wuss and want to make modern even more lame the only bannable card is Become Immense. It allows both infect and Deaths Shadow to win T3 more often.

Seriously though the best thing the format can get is Twin back. Or no changes.

Why is modern the only format where people feel the need to find things to ban when there is nothing there?

Modern is fine. If it gets stale in 6+ months(probably more like a year) bring back BBE and Preordain or something. But people need to relax on bans. Not a single card in the format right now is worthy of a ban.

Not. Even. CLOSE. No meta dominant decks, best cards are all fair cards, etc. Please stop being weirdos and just PLAY THE FORMAT. Standard and Legacy don't waste their brainpower and time like this. Its almost like its not even real modern players crying about this stuff, just people who want modern to fail and cant enjoy brewing with it.

Dredgevine isn't that much more expensive than regular dredge - the only added expense of note is vengevine at $20 each and blackcleave cliffs over copperline gorge, but the decks share the same core cards. Here's an article written by Lee Shi Tan shortly after Magnus Lantto & Oliver Tiu placed well at a MOCS with dredgevine about his experience with the deck. In two later articles, he goes on to basically design the framework for the tier 1 loam/conflag version currently seeing a lot of play on modo http://www.mtgmintcard.com/articles/writers/lee-shi-tian/bad-dredge-bad-dredge

If you think dredge is faster you haven't played a good dredgevine list. My 4 color dredgevine list consistently won T3. I have watched a TON of dredge games and its much slower, playing terrible cards like Narcomeomba... Yeah I think dredgevine is comparable. Especially since its much better vs GY hate

I don't think its good enough but I think the comparison to electromancer is wrong. It is more like a mix of delver and electromancer. Its flip is probably better than delver flip due to the prowess, but 2 vs 1 mana is a HUGE Deal. At least you can use the first side on turn 2 to help cast you an extra spell you couldn't have but the card just seems too slow for modern.

Many posters in the Jund thread believe Grim Flayer is a new main deck card.

Ehh you need to cut something for it. I like the card but I feel like it would be better in a graveyard themed deck. Something with Lingering souls/Loam maybe? and other graveyard value. I feel regular Jund can do better with more disruption and the normal creatures

I'm telling you, guys, test out with pack rat for a few games. Early game, iok/ts to clear removal and make rats. Late game, top deck rats (be sure to hold spare lands in hand after 5 or six on field) drop rats, respond to removal with...wait for it...MORE RATS. Plays exceptionally well with Bob (extra cards you don't need, more rats please) and souls (chuck souls to rats, recast souls, GHOST RATS!) Can quickly outgrow clasm and anger, can be bought back with kommand, provides a 0/6/12 damage clock on an empty field (as long as you kept those spare lands/spells to feed them), seriously y'all. Just watch out for sweepers and engineered explosives, that's where the blowouts come from.

Something to keep in mind with Rat is that Maelstrom Pulse has made a pretty big resurgence. Seems like 2 Maindeck is more common now, since its a good answer to the Eldrazi decks.

Mentor really provides what rat does, expect you get to gain value out of using your removal, rather than paying 3 mana and discarding a card to grow it.

Well yeah. Thats an even better standard card. This card will still see a good amount of standard play. Either way hes not good enough for modern.
