posted a message on Iconic Masters ignores the first half of Magic
Just so everyone who reads this thread knows, WOTC is a slave to Hasbro. Hasbro has not done that well lately, OUTSIDE of mtg. So the positive for us is the game is growing, and more sets will likely be printed going forward including masters sets. The downside is that more cards will get trashed due to reprintts and expensive masters products WILL be the norm. They have a higher gross margin and help hasbro/its shareholders.

    https://finviz.com/quote.ashx?t=HAS&ty=c&ta=0&p=m

Basically everything about masters sets will be a compromise because Hasbro has insisted WOTC do what it takes to move large amounts of product. Don't blame them directly... they have no choice.

posted a message on Which will have a better EV, Iconic Masters or MM17?
I did an EV calculation at todays prices as of the like 10th of September. Then a box would be worth an outstanding 370 on average BEFORE foils. 50ish uncommons, 243! rares and 74 in mythics. Now i think the mythics are overall pretty weak. I assumed mana drain at 150... maybe it ends up half that? Still any box with mana drain is CERTAINLY going to be profitable for a few months if not always. After that its a ton of EDH stuff much of which only has 1 printing. NPH and Future sight sets weren't printed that much... both 3rd sets i believe? If damnation is any sign the prices of big name cards could drop by 50%. I do think that this is going to destroy the price on many of these cards.. but my guess is for 1-2 weeks at release just opening packs will be profitable. But certainly all the non modern staples will go down by near half on economics alone. Visions, Canopy, Thoughtseize, Vial and such should hold 70-80% of their value due to being modern staples. But what do i know.

posted a message on Serum Visions vs Opt? You Choose
Opt seems good in flash creature decks. Clique, Spell Queller, Remand and such are cards to play with opt. Every other deck likely sticks with sleight or thought scour.

    Quote from Dontrike »
Looking over the set I can see that the usual Masters curse is in play here. We see all of the amazing stuff up front and then the last 85-90% is oh so bad.

    1. Why are most of the cards seemingly from Zendikar-Innistrad forward? Yes, there are some older cards, but they are certainly in the minority. I suppose Innistrad forward is far more "iconic" than many before that.
    2. There are not many noticeable cards below rare, and that's not even talking about value. The most noticeable cards I can see among commons/uncommons is Rift Bolt, Lightning Helix, Wall of Roots(?), Mishra's Bauble, Thran Dynamo, and.....that's about it unless you have a personal preference towards any other card(s).
2a. Value goes along with #2. There is not much there to be had below rare and mythic. I think Bauble and Dynamo are probably it when it comes to value.
    3. Some of the rares are rather groan worthy. Did we, or this limited format, really need another Sphinx of Uthuun or yet another printing of the Ravnica karoos? A personal gripe is yet again Swords to Plowshares and not Path to Exile.
    4. I don't know much about Pauper, but there doesn't seem to be anything all that great that was bumped down to common.
    5. Most of the notable dragon related cards being printed here were printed in the recent Commander set, making some of these reprints unneeded and redundant.
6 Extra. I honestly can't see some of the draft themes. I can see +1/+1 counters, dragons, and defenders, but that's about it.

Overall this set looks to have the same quality as Eternal Masters, possibly worse, and that was barely better than MM2, the worst Masters set yet.

    Right now I would most likely rank them as. MM1 > MM3 > EMA = IMA > MM2.

If you go based on Monetary value it will be only behind MM1 and not by a ton. It has great uncommons too like the first MM set.

<3 my mardu boys. Here are my builds that I have brewed up. I sold out of MTGO so give me some tips. I plan on buying one/both of these decks offline and starting to play paper magic. Gotta bite the bullet and the cost isn't a big issue for me. 1000 dollars no big deal! Everything is cheap right now for this deck.

@redsummers I think you will love my deck based on your idea. I have built smallpox based decks quite a few times and they grinded(in past metas) to the NEXT level. Here is my first build(no testing) of smallpox control. http://imgur.com/a/bExyW

Nowhere near Jtms level... So calm down guys...

Her third ability is exactly the same as Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker. With exact costing. It feels really uninspiring IMO.

She just falls short of great (outside of standard). When I mean great I'm looking at jtms, vryn's prodigy, lotv, Gideon (ally of zendikar), Elspeth knight errant, Tezz AOB, Garruk Wildspeaker.

As a player, you really, really, really don't want to use her minus ability as much as possible because it sets her loyalty so far back.

Metallurgic Summonings is a crap mythic. But extremely fun. Just the type of mythic I like.

Oh my you are in for a shock. The turn you play her you are only -2 mana - thats insane. You can play her, bolt your opponents two best threats and have +2 mana on each turn afterwards. She will be very strong in controlling/midrange decks in modern. Comparing her to Sarkhan is just crazy man. Sarkhan costs 5 and she is 4...

posted a message on Current Modern Banlist Discussion (9/26/2016 update - No changes!)
Why is modern the only format where people feel the need to find things to ban when there is nothing there?

Modern is fine. If it gets stale in 6+ months(probably more like a year) bring back BBE and Preordain or something. But people need to relax on bans. Not a single card in the format right now is worthy of a ban.

Not. Even. CLOSE. No meta dominant decks, best cards are all fair cards, etc. Please stop being weirdos and just PLAY THE FORMAT. Standard and Legacy don't waste their brainpower and time like this. Its almost like its not even real modern players crying about this stuff, just people who want modern to fail and cant enjoy brewing with it.

Do people seriously want cards from Infect banned now? Oh mtgsalvation never change. As soon as a deck becomes the best it suddenly needs to be banned. Either though infect is REALLY soft to alot of cards played by everyone.
