It seems like people constantly complain about the reserved list, and it got me wondering what Legacy would be like with those cards gone. If tomorrow WOTC announced a new format which was identical to Legacy, but with every card on the reserved list banned, what would that format look like?

    Quote from CharonsObol »

I would play this format, but only if it ever became significantly more popular than Legacy currently is. Legacy has a high barrier to entry, but that's a two part problem: card availability and price. Yes, those two parts are related.

This format sounds like a great idea. you could even do at this weeks FNM, because one format they sanctioned is "any made up format".

    That was faast.

Do you know what is the price from distributor in USA? The price LGS buys each box I mean.

    Quote from Ruzhyo »
Commander has damn-near died at my shop. We've started our first Commander League since the rule change and noone signed up, which is odd since we've had at least a dozen people per league, if not more. The handful of people I've talked to cited the rule change and how it makes the compeitive nature of the League miserable, especially with Prossh, Animar, and Kaalia players around. I'm not sure if the rule change alone was responsible for the exodus of EDH players from my LGS, but it's become hard even starting a casual game. It's a shame; Commander's my favorite format.

Same with my local game store. Now i have to drive twice far to play in a small 6-8 people group instead of 10-16 i am use to.

The "banning of tucking" I am afraid will lead the rule committee to say oh well we do not like mechanic X lets ban that. For example nobody like alternate win condition cards so they are banned. BAD PRECEDENT!

Nice slippery slope argument. This horrible other thing will happen if we do this, so let's not do this first thing or discuss it's merits. Do you have any evidence to support your idea that anyone is going to ban alternate win cards? Besides coalition victory of course.

Alternate win cards is just an example off the top of my head. Since they have set this bad precedent they could easily say no land destruction, no discard, or no unsumming cause they are unfun mechanics and not every color does it.

Not every color doing something is the POINT of magic.

You also can't argue "Well they won't ban a mechanic in commander" because they just did. If they were planning on this rule change why did they reprint Oblation in Commander 2014.

How many people have been doing what the rule says about tucking?

My play group has not been using it because the reason given made no sense. Some colors can tuck and some can't. Really come on it is like say some colors can life gain and some can't. It is part of Magic's color diversity. I just fear that next they will be like oh well we don't like unsummon or blink effects so all those cards are banned.

I don't think it is. I know that your touting the philosophy that has existed as long as the deck type has, and I think it can work, if you are providing some very powerful control aspects(which I might add, modern thankfully lacks). But with that part of the game missing, with having a necessarily powered down control, combo at the very least needs to be nerfed hard and at least in my mind, maybe shouldn't be available at all.

People here always complain that Modern shouldn't be like Legacy, but you are doing the same in the other direction with your desire of completely removing combo form the format.

And what would that even do? Making the format aggro vs GBx midrange the format? I would rather switch to Standard than to play in a format like this.

Storm is not holding anything back it's tier 3 according to this site. And I don't think that 1 or 2 unbans would make it op.

And explain to me again how combo is holding control back? Combo decks are usually better matchups than aggro for control, so I don't see it. Unless you are talking about blue consistency cards on the banlist but they could make Delver a problem, it's not just combo and control that benefit from them.

If I were to do unbans I would probably start with something like: Ancestral Vision, Sword of the Meek, Bloodbraid Elf and Seething Song, it could make an Esper Control viable and most likely wouldn't break any of the current decks.

Do we think unbanning Dig Through Time would be bad. The 2 blue in it's casting cost lead me to believe it would not be as bad as Treasure Cruise.

Also was banning of Birthing Pod really that necessary? It seems like it was a year late and Pod was not used as much as it had been. It was still played, just less in my area. What about where you guys play was Pod not out of control?

That's why I suggested goyf is twice what it is worth. Comparable to bob.

Even if Innistrad was printed a lot more than Future Sight, Liliana is a mythic and goyf was a rare. Perhaps I am showing my youth in terms of magic (since I've never playing in a world without mythics) but the rarity should give some indication of availability.

There used to be significantly more rares per set, though. If you do the math, you'll find that the likelihood of pulling any one rare from an old small set pack was approximately the same as pulling any one mythic from a new small set pack.

Innistrad was also up there in the most popular sets ever made, so they ran more print runs I believe.

But basically, given that MM2 is a limited print run AND the packs are ten dollars, the actual availability of Tarmogoyfs is not going to increase by much. At most the price of them will drop by 10 or 20 dollars, and then start rising again once MM2 is out of print.

So in the end if you got the money when MM 2015 snatch up a few extra play sets of Tarmogoyfs. Than either sell before they announce MM 2016 or see if MM will be an odd year product an even years will be Conspiracy or Legacy Masters.

This card is why megamorph is bad. Just should have had morph "when, card name, is morphed face up put X +1/+1 counters on it". That way they could have had a lot of different flexibility. Stupid wizards think everything has to be key worded.

Command is good for causal maybe sees play in constructed, they better not stink up the room like the old green one UGH. I like all the dragons except WG. The shaman is not going get banned in edh you need dudes of 8 power, him to live, than you have to boot him up, AND than you need a bucket of mana.
