I am working on a Mairsil, the Pretender deck and kinda looking around at what others have done as well. One card that pops up alot is Shifty Doppelganger, a very interesting card i was unaware of.

I do have a quick question of how it interacts with Mairsil's ability. My fear is i stick something in play someone kills it and my Mairsil gets stuck in limbo.

If i put a creature in play and exile Mairsil, can i change him to the command zone, and then when EOT comes around and i sac the creature will it be able to get him from command zone? I know the "fixed" o-ring abilities you can because they do not specify where the card is moving from, so is this similar?

    Thanks for the help everyone!

Only time i proxy is in the deck building/testing phase, figuring out what works and what doesn't

I have a lot of decks and i just work with what i have, they may not be perfect but they work.

I also would NEVER proxy and an LGS, it is really an insult to them and their business. We had an issue with a player that had proxies in her deck at a tournament and it did not go well/was not pretty.

As far as kitchen table when you are playing with friends, that is really up to you/your group. I would never "power up" a deck for kitchen table, generally the group has the same power level and budget so if i dont have a mana crypt ect for every deck that is fine. i have one judge crypt and one EMA one but i am not going to optimize every deck i play, takes some of the fun from EDH

I am quite happy that i am not tired of any general,

The group that I play with is rather varied and most of them have several decks (personally i have 26 decks [not all tuned but mostly fun to play]) so play really never stales out

The only one i used to be tired of was Kalia but her popularity died down a lot (i still groan a bit when she comes out but my decks and strategy are much better at dealing with her now)

The only thing I am currently proxying is some shock lands i needed for Standard decks and when i build i deck i will proxy in things i dont have then play it a few times, if i like the deck i get the cards

  • posted a message on What would a "Modern" Commander format be like?
I do not think it is a bad idea, i just don't think it is something that the majority of edh players that currently exist would play. It would be a great gateway for newer players that don't have 1000$ to shell out on a competitive deck. I am not opposed to it as a format I in fact like the idea of shaking up decks every once and a while or you end up with a different type of stagnation. I think it would make a fine format but it would never replace standard EDH/Commander

I think this is an awesome Idea. I run a few tribal decks, the restriction i put on myself is that no more than 5 creatures can be off creature type (this allows me things like the dragon shaman in my dragon deck, resembling skeleton and grave titan in grim grin etc)

Still awesome, hopefully I can get my LCS to do this as well

  • posted a message on Are fat packs worth it?
I have always gotten two mythics in every single Fat Pack I have purchased but I am in the minority it seems

I like them but they aren't the best value

For GTC I told myself one booster box and one fatpack and that's it

I will splurge once Dragon's Maze hits

Frown for me I ended up getting 2 fatpacks last set and the set before got 0 mythic in all 4

this set i got 1 fat pack. Got 1 mythic but the rest of the rares where 1-2$ rares

The only time i buy fatpacks is if i pre-order because i get a deal on them. Other than that it is generally more efficient to buy singles or if you want bulk a box

All the walmarts in the Greater Toronto Area I have been to carry magic, but the selection is generally small and lacking. One thing i do find is sometimes they find old stock in the back room and put it out, i have found old duel decks and even once i got 3 worldwake packs.

But the prices are hugely inflated most of the time (5.50 for packs)

You might have a point if Vintage, or Legacy, or Commander, or even Modern in some cases didn't exist and have events run locally and/or nationally. Nope, as long as they're not standard legal no one wants them for anything else and I'm sure every card in a 75$ MSRP product will be about as useful as a basic land Rolleyes

It doesn't surprise me that you have customers that aren't loyal to you whatsoever if that's the kind of attitude you show them. I know that I personally choose to buy from my FLGS whenever I can because of the F part. They don't do crap like mark up products 200% and in return I (along with many others) thank them by buying singles from them even when it might be a bit cheaper to do online. They haven't figured out what the current situation for Arsenal stuff will be but the manager has expressed that they're interested in finding a fair way to allocate the product to players without turning it into real life ebay.

    qft

I frequently pay a premium to buy items at my local store and I ALWAYS go to the 2 local shops near me before ordering online, and unless it is a significant (talking 75-100%, they have their own stock as well as a set of consignment stock, the stores stock tends to be pretty close to the market the consignment stuff is all over the place) difference in price i buy from them. This did not have to be as limited as they made it and it still would have sold like hot cakes. Wizards is falling into the sports memorabilia trap of "if we don't make it rare or exclusive people won't buy it" mentality. Sure make it limited, but really did it have to be less than FTV?

I half expected this set to be "numbered" after I heard about the availability. Can't wait till we are looking for numbered inserts in packs of m15 Wink

Until you walk into a store and INSIST on paying $143.64 for a booster box of in print Magic (Which is MSRP), then maybe you should stop acting like MSRP is the most important thing ever. I guarantee if you walked into a store and saw a booster box priced like that, you'd call them greedy scumbags. Stop being so entitled.

Again this isn't a discussion of price it is a discussion of availability

what is the logical sense from a business to limit something so drastically. They make no money from the mark up that stores and dealers put on this, they only make money on the volume sold from the warehouses. I understand the Idea of collectible, but there is a difference between this level of forced rarity and a product that they can make money from.

I think what people really want is a reasoning for why they announced this as a printing of EDH staples but decided to go with an ultra limited print run, even lower then anything they have printed to my knowledge other than maybe summer magic

edit: I am gladly willing to pay a market mark up, I paid a premium to get my FTVs so price is not the issue with me

Sounds like you are talking about Houston. We have shops that fit both of those descriptions.

Heh, nope, I live in ontario

$ 75 for 18 cards !!!!!!!!!!!! is that an april fools joke ?
at that price I don't care if it's super rare because I can't buy it.
this is the lousiest Magi related news of the year !!
give us back foil decks !

As i said they are starting to get into sports card territory, soon enough we are going to start getting numbered inserts and memorabilia cards lol

How rediculous is it for something to be marketed (repeatedly) as STAPLES, and then make them extremely hard to get?

    couldn't agree with you more!

All in all this product will make them money which is the point of business.

but they are alienating the loyal players who want to shell out 75$ for this product forcing them to the secondary market where they make no money.

Wizards is looking too much at creating scarcity to imply value rather than just making the product good, and printing it at a medium print run, like the PDS so they could sell tons of them instead of shifting the profits to the secondary market.

I am guaranteeing if they gave every store 20 of these they would all sell and now they have 5 times the profit. As it stands this product is going to be a success in terms of numbers sold but a disappointment to the players!
