Did anyone here go to the Eudemonia KTK Sealed PTQ or the Channel Fireball TCGPlayer Standard States Championship last Saturday? I would have gone but I stayed up until 3 am on Friday night so there was no chance I was waking up in time for either of those events.
The Starcity Games Standard States Championship is next Saturday October 11, in Santa Rosa.
Edit 2* Also anyone going to SCG Open Sac Nov 1-2?
I might go to SCG Oakland to play Standard (I don't own a Legacy deck).
I went to the TCGPlayer States and made Top 8.
However, the turnout was pretty small (there was only 50 people)
I suspect that most players went to the PTQ at Eudo instead.
Anyone ever been to Outer Planes in Santa Rosa?
I'm about 60% sure that I'm going to SCG States, but am not sure if it's worth it. Is it a good store?
I'd take Pile B. Foil eternal staples over Standard cards.
(I might have seen Thassa as a one-of in a CounterTop deck once,
and you can always pick up RTR versions unless you prefer signed foreign stuff)
Regarding the second pile vs pile, I picked out these cards out at a toy/collectibles convention.
While I know that I got "value", was it really worth it?
Will I really be able to flip/trade these, or will these just end up sitting in my binder?
The great thing is that even though this may have been searched, you could still find some nuggets.
Someone who is not that familiar with the EDH/casual market may easily look over obscure cards.
One of my friends recently found a playset of Cursecatcher s and a Helm of Obedience in an uncommon bulk box.
I went to the same store a week later and found things like Nimble Mongoose, Dragonspeaker Shaman, and Carpet of Flowers (even though my friends told me that there was "nothing left").
An acquaintance of mine (player since 94?) was searching with me and was picking out cards I would have glanced over (like 10 Ward Slivers).
This way, when you're sifting through cards, a word or some artwork will jog your memory.
Also, I'd definitely take a friend (more eyes & saves time).
This will take a lot of time, considering that you need to take the cards out, orient them correctly when searching, set aside the trash/valuable cards, etc, etc.
When my acquaintance and I were searching, it took us nearly an hour to sift through 2 cardboard boxes.
EDIT: Also, be wary of the 50%-70% off single prices. It may not be worth the time/money if you only pickout a few cards. Ask for bulk prices before searching.

I'd recommend going through each set and getting familiar with some of the cards worth $2+.
