Pack 1 pick 1:
Geist Trappers
Lair Delve
Mist Raven
Soulcage Fiend
Vanguard's Shield
Scalding Devil
Alchemist's Apprentice
Renegade Demon
Driver of the Dead
Angel's Mercy
Stonewright
Tandem Lookout
Bower Passage
--> Revenge of the Hunted
Plains
The pick here is definitely between Mist Raven, Tandem Lookout, and Revenge of the Hunted. The other two are great, but I like taking the only really good green card in the pack and I feel like the card is fairly bomby.
Raven is the best card in the pack by a fair margin, so I took it hoping to fall into UG soulbond. Probably should've been the Ranger though, honestly.
No really good blue or green cards in this pack. I don't want to take tricks this high, and Ringleader is very good. I wasn't sure when I took him right here, but I ended up being very happy with the pick. This guy is awesome.
Pack 1 pick 4:
Dreadwaters
Bone Splinters
Geist Snatch
Leap of Faith
Somberwald Vigilante
Essence Harvest
Driver of the Dead
--> Timberland Guide
Rush of Blood
Triumph of Ferocity
Arcane Melee
Plains
Black seemed open with a Bone Splinters still being here, and it was throughout the draft, but the guide is a two drop and a decent one at that. I was considering Triumph of Ferocity here, but I don't know how to evaluate it yet and passed.
Pack 1 pick 5:
Banners Raised
Rotcrown Ghoul
Thraben Valiant
Guise of Fire
--> Heirs of Stromkirk
Peel from Reality
Spectral Prison
Defang
Ghostly Touch
Triumph of Cruelty
Swamp
Settling into RG beats. Heirs is a solid four drop.
Pack 1 pick 6:
Thunderbolt
Wildwood Geist
Butcher Ghoul
Midnight Duelist
Battle Hymn
--> Fervent Cathar
Voice of the Provinces
Abundant Growth
Angel's Tomb
Mountain
Pack 1 pick 7:
Grave Exchange
Dreadwaters
Amass the Components
Sheltering Word
--> Pillar of Flame
Unhallowed Pact
Spectral Prison
Triumph of Cruelty
Mountain
Pick 7 Pillar is where I start to think red is pretty open to the right.
Pack 1 pick 8:
Angelic Wall
Flowering Lumberknot
Farbog Explorer
--> Nightshade Peddler
Thatcher Revolt
Midvast Protector
Polluted Dead
Island
Pack 1 pick 10:
Snare the Skies (FOIL)
--> Thunderbolt
Somberwald Vigilante
Yew Spirit
Bower Passage
Plains
Is the pick Thunderbolt here? This actually took me a little while. Yew Spirit can get out of hand and the Vigilante is an aggressive human. Still not too sure about this one.
Another Triumph that I would really like to try out, but my creatures are kind of small and I don't think it's that great in an aggressive decks. Another time.
This or Nettle Swine. I figure the Swine is more consistent, but I can always get them if I really want one. The Prowess seems to have a higher upside, and with such a low amount of removal in this set I think it'll be good. It turns out to be pretty decent, even without a soulbonded Nightshade Peddler.
Pack 2 pick 8:
--> Rotcrown Ghoul
Natural End
Angel's Mercy
Seraph Sanctuary
Demolish
Vanguard's Shield
Descent into Madness
Plains
Another kind of unexciting first pick. It's between the Cathar, the Prowess, and Joint Assault. Cathar it is.
Pack 3 pick 2:
Crypt Creeper
Flowering Lumberknot
Nettle Swine
Gryff Vanguard
Banners Raised
Moorland Inquisitor
Fervent Cathar
Voice of the Provinces
Seraph of Dawn
Abundant Growth
Emancipation Angel
Human Frailty
--> Kessig Malcontents
Island
So much awesome white. I didn't remember seeing so much being passed in the first pack. Oh well. Malcontents is good and fits my plan. I also have a lot of humans so he should hit for quite a bit.
This time I take the Swine over the Prowess. I only have one four drop at this time and feel like the Swine will be alright.
Pack 3 pick 4:
Grounded
Scroll of Avacyn
Necrobite
Defang
Ghostform
--> Pillar of Flame
Crippling Chill
Cursebreak
Homicidal Seclusion
Angel's Tomb
Rite of Ruin
Mountain
Pack 3 pick 5:
Seraph of Dawn
Abundant Growth
Predator's Gambit
Seraph Sanctuary
Timberland Guide
Demolish
Vanguard's Shield
Scrapskin Drake
Scroll of Griselbrand
--> Lightning Mauler
Island
Pack 3 pick 6:
Cloudshift
Abundant Growth
Riot Ringleader
Scroll of Griselbrand
Midvast Protector
Scalding Devil
--> Wandering Wolf
Havengul Vampire
Haunted Guardian
Island
I dunno. I think this was my only really bad pick of the draft. I had dreams of turn two wolf, turn three miracle Blessings of Nature. Or just pumping him with Timberland Guides. This probably should've been another Ringleader or the Vampire. Either probably would've been better.
Pack 3 pick 7:
Midnight Duelist
Guise of Fire
Fleeting Distraction
Uncanny Speed
Cathedral Sanctifier
Amass the Components
--> Voice of the Provinces
Dreadwaters
Forest
Yeah, the white deck is looking good enough.
Pack 3 pick 8:
Cloudshift
Narstad Scrapper
Snare the Skies
Raging Poltergeist
--> Mad Prophet
Sheltering Word
Aggravate
Mountain
This guy was pretty awesome when I got to use him. Having haste is just HUGE. Probably shouldn't go this late.
Pack 3 pick 9:
Ghostly Flicker
Spectral Gateguards
Snare the Skies
Raging Poltergeist
--> Lightning Prowess
Rain of Thorns
Swamp
Pack 3 pick 10:
Flowering Lumberknot
Nettle Swine
Banners Raised
--> Moorland Inquisitor
Voice of the Provinces
Island
Eh, probably a bad hate draft. Not enough soulbond for the Lumberknot, and I don't think I want two Swines. Also more worried about early creatures from my opponents than six drops. Probably should've been another swine though.
Pack 3 pick 13:
--> Demolish
Vanguard's Shield
Island
Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Scalding Devil
Island
Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Forest
All the games that I won went very similarly. Get a bunch of humans in play with Riot Ringleader, remove a blocker with Fervent Cather and swing for 15+ damage. Lightning Prowess was very good, and I didn't feel bad running two of them, whereas I normally don't want that many enchantments in my deck.
Alas, I never even saw Revenge of the Hunted. I feel like it's a really good card though, because every draw step I was hoping that I would draw it. That's usually the sign of a good one.
Pack 1 pick 1:
Crossway Vampire
Wooden Stake
Ghoulcaller's Chant
Doomed Traveler
Lost in the Mist
Ghoulraiser
Spectral Flight
Darkthicket Wolf (FOIL)
Pitchburn Devils
Memory's Journey
Hamlet Captain
Moan of the Unhallowed
--> Essence of the Wild
Ulvenwald Mystics
Forest
I probably should've picked Moan here. Essence of the Wild never got played and I'm not sure there was a good moment for him to be played in any of the rounds.
Pack 1 pick 2:
Skeletal Grimace
Voiceless Spirit
Victim of Night
--> Claustrophobia
Kindercatch
Shimmering Grotto
Stromkirk Patrol
Night Revelers
Chapel Geist
Sharpened Pitchfork
Inquisitor's Flail
Tribute to Hunger
Hanweir Watchkeep
Mountain
It was between Claustrophobia and Victim of Night here. I think Claustrophobia is better than Victim.
Pack 1 pick 3:
Traitorous Blood
Markov Patrician
Stitcher's Apprentice
Mulch
Furor of the Bitten
Feeling of Dread
--> Darkthicket Wolf
Fortress Crab
Orchard Spirit
Mask of Avacyn
Rolling Temblor
Rage Thrower
Forest
Pack 1 pick 4:
Moonmist
One-Eyed Scarecrow
Markov Patrician
Ghostly Possession
Ghoulcaller's Bell
Bump in the Night
Moment of Heroism
Fortress Crab
Traveler's Amulet
--> Into the Maw of Hell
Intangible Virtue
Forest
Nothing good in blue or green here so I just took the best card. There was a Rage Thrower in an earlier pack so I thought red may be open.
Pack 1 pick 6:
Silverchase Fox
Curse of the Bloody Tome
Woodland Sleuth
Curse of Oblivion
--> Blazing Torch
Deranged Assistant
Gnaw to the Bone
Abattoir Ghoul
Bramblecrush
Mountain
This was between the torch or the assistant, but the torch won out.
Pack 1 pick 8:
Somberwald Spider
Hysterical Blindness
Curse of the Bloody Tome
Abbey Griffin
Infernal Plunge
Curse of the Nightly Hunt
--> Gallows Warden
Island
This kind of made me think that white may be open from the right.
Pack 1 pick 9:
Wooden Stake
Ghoulcaller's Chant
Lost in the Mist
Spectral Flight
Memory's Journey
--> Hamlet Captain
Forest
Pack 3 pick 13:
--> Curse of the Bloody Tome
Kindercatch
Mountain
Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Hysterical Blindness
Mountain
Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Swamp
The deck ended up fairly bad I think. It had a few removal spells and some acceleration, but way too many late drops compared to low drops and I couldn't put on enough pressure to win.
I ended going 1-2 losing to a mill deck and a BR aggro deck.
I've been playing on MTGO since right before NPH was released and my rating is 1645. A lot of that time was me playing in the 8-4 queues, but recently I've switched over to Swiss due to getting horribly decimated every game.
Turns out I'm still getting horribly decimated in the Swiss queues as well.
I watch draft videos, read articles, read the MTGO Salvation forum, and I still can never win. What else is there to help myself?
Seriously, what is the point of this? This post sucks in every way imaginable.
On topic though, it was not the greatest draft. Matt did explain that he was trying to show how a certain archetype could work, however, and he managed to draft it and make it to the finals with a minimal amount of luck. I can't call any deck that manages that a train wreck or failure.
Also, I don't think anyone will pass a P2P9 Thopter Assembly. Matt first picked one though, so I don't see the question as relevant.
My only really hard choice during the draft portion was when I opened my second Scars pack and had to pick between a second Contagion Engine and a Palladium Myr. I knew my curve was really high at the time and the Myr would probably be what I needed, but it was too difficult to pass a Contagion Engine.
Can anyone give some insight on what I should have done? I obviously ended up taking the engine and decided to pick up a lot of decent early defensive drops until I could get my late game going, but in the end I think the myr would have been the more solid choice.
Also, in a deck like this, how good do most people consider the Engine? I had nothing to proliferate onto and I wasn't killing my opponent with poison... I've never played with the card, but I've heard good things from people who have. After having played with it, the card seems like something that's bad when you're behind and generally a lot better when the board is at a standstill and you need something to help break through.
I think it was probably a winnable match, but I mulled to 5 both games and didn't draw well enough to pull out of it.

The deck ended up fairly bad I think. It had a few removal spells and some acceleration, but way too many late drops compared to low drops and I couldn't put on enough pressure to win.
I ended going 1-2 losing to a mill deck and a BR aggro deck.
Turns out I'm still getting horribly decimated in the Swiss queues as well.
I watch draft videos, read articles, read the MTGO Salvation forum, and I still can never win. What else is there to help myself?
On topic though, it was not the greatest draft. Matt did explain that he was trying to show how a certain archetype could work, however, and he managed to draft it and make it to the finals with a minimal amount of luck. I can't call any deck that manages that a train wreck or failure.
Also, I don't think anyone will pass a P2P9 Thopter Assembly. Matt first picked one though, so I don't see the question as relevant.
Steel sabotage
Flight Spellbomb
Wall of Tanglecord
Leader Myr
Iron Myr
Necropede
Disperse
Perilous Myr
Mortarpod
Gust Skimmer
Neurok Replica x 2
Peace Strider
Lumengrid Drake
Ogre Resister
Saberclaw Golem
Sky-Eel School
Clone Shell
Kuldotha Flamefiend
Contagion Engine
Contagion Engine Foil
Turn to Slag
Hellkite Igniter
Looking forward to your opinions!
