  • posted a message on So, I'm an alcoholic.
I am a recovering drug addict. When I realized the following it became possible to stop:

    1) I am an addict.
    2) As an addict I have to keep the substance of of my body 100%, for the rest of my life.
    3) There is no room for "slips" or "cheats" in the path to recovery. Slips or cheats lead back to full relapse either in the short or medium term.
    4) I have to make a personal commitment to stay substance free forever.
    5) I don't need a quit date. There will be no better time than NOW to stop using (100%)

On the upside, when you do quit each day on the road to recovery will be easier (after an initial period).

There will be a time in the future when you don't think of or need alcohol. It may be sooner than you think.

Everything you love in life can be enjoyed without alcohol.

The ratio of commons to uncommons in booster packs are 10:3. This is very close to 3:1. Therefore you can simulate booster packs (without rares and print runs - and prehaps a few other small differences) very cheaply with 3*commons set and 1* uncommon set. Randomize and deal into "packs" of 14 or 15 cards. Go.

get 3* commons set from Khans
get 1* uncommons set from Khans
    Shuffle well. very well.
divide into boosters and draft. and again. and again.

This ratio is very close to the ratio from boosters and mimics a real draft very closely. And you can probably get the cards for 5 bucks each (or whatever)

I understand that. That doesn't clarify the issue for me though

What is unclear to me is whether the pendrell mists "reads" the creatures when its trigger goes on the stack or when it resolves, and it seems that from what you saying it reads the creature when it is put on the stack.

Does this make sense? and if so is it correct?

Can you (someone) cite the comprehensive rules to aid my greater understanding?

    Cheers Smile

Edit: yeah, in the light of day, the replies are clear. thanks people.

    Hi,

player 1 controls pendrell mists and a copy enchantment copying pendrell mists.
player 2 has a geralf's messenger with no +1/+1 counters on it.
    it is player 2's upkeep

what happens here if the messanger does not pay for pendrell mists the first time? it returns to play with a counter. does it have to pay for the second pendrell mists (the copy enchantment)?

please explain the stack and it's resolution in this case and cite the relevant comprehensive rules if possible.

    Thanks!

  • posted a message on Limited confuses me. Why not make your own boosters?
Didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been suggested.

If you wanna play a WotC draft environment for cheap you can simulate this fairly accurately and cheaply by:

obtaining 3x of each common of the set (or sets)
obtaining 1x of each uncommon of the set (or sets)
    and shuffling them into boosters

The ratios will be close to booster pack ratios. You wont have print runs (irrelevant for all but the most serious players), and the absence of rares/ mythics might be an advantage Smile

Not that I'd spend that kind of money an a single card but people spend more than this on new cars and others don't even blink. I'd much prefer a Black Lotus and a second hand car using the remaining money than a mid-range priced new car.

I still haven't bought thoughtseize despise I'm playing Esper control, coz I want to wait it to drop further

What are the decent replacements for thoughtseize in standard now?

    Quote from elias_aye
I don't understand this hate. Since reprinting, the price of Thoughtseize has dropped from $60 to $17, and is on a downward trend. People will honestly complain about anything.

Wait, what? Nobody is complaining about anything. There was no "TS should be cheaper" or "standard is too expensive".

The guy just stated he was waiting for it to drop - presumably cos from a personal cost/benefit analysis it is not worth it yet.

During pro tour coverage they make a huge deal about people with 60% win rates at the pro tour or 65% win rates at grand prix.

If the game was 100% luck we would expect tendancies toward 50% win rates.

60 - 65% seems like still a huge amount of luck is involved in each game.

Does anyone know similar stats for games like Go or Chess? the win percentages of the absolute best among fields of very good players?

How is it relevant that the initial quote is format specific? Are you suggesting the EDH designed legend shall be breaking into Legacy and Vintage? I think we need to live in reality if we want to attempt to have a serious discussion about the card.

The initial post is NOT format specific, thats the point. We have a small amount of empirical evidence that the card is going to be VERY good in a specific format. In this context, the post that started this seems fairly reasonable, and certainly not something that ought to have been jumped upon.

But seeing as you use your signature to call people morons I'm not sure I enjoy speaking with you.

Fair enough, perhaps my sig could be reconsidered (and are you sure none of your posts have similar, better concealed, messages?). And if you wanna use that as your reason to eject from the conversation, fine - I was just getting ready for bed myself.

    Cheers

You people keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Please note the absence of the original quote being format specific.

While we are here, perhaps you could enlighten us on your definition of the word "broken".

    Cheers

I believe you would still use that word because shouting "broken" is easier than thinking and waiting.

    Card is fine. Period.

Without having a personal opinion on the matter either way, the best evidence we have (have not read other threads) comes from Perfekt in post 79 of this thread. He has tested it and says about the card in relation to French that:

"This thing is gonna be Tier 1 in Duel commander for sure."

It seems that this would at least be somewhere in the realms of a common definition of broken. And even though it might be wrong, it is easily better evidence than the rantings of a guy hangs out in the EDH forums looking for any opportunity to rave and be antisocial, when bystanders are just trying to have fun.

    Cheers

    This.

The promo plains was sweet, and basic lands as promos dont reduce the number of packs sold, like giving us mid value to chase cards (if they do).
