Bravo for this. As some note below, it's not the perfect article - but it starts the conversation, and that's the important thing.
For those who don't know the full story on who Jeremy Hambly is and what he did, this article captures it all.
In the end, this isn't about politics, thought policing or anything like that - it's about having the right to not get trolled out of our own hobbies. No-one deserves that. Not Christine, not anyone on here. And if we start a conversation to make sure no-one gets trolled right off MTGSally, good.

Dec 8, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2014 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - GreenPosted in: CadaverousBl00m BlogQuote from Blueduck »Treefolk is interesting. Have you mentioned that in years past? I know I would find it interesting if the final 2014 optimal cube used different archetypes from years past. Let's get some variety!
Wow, that was quick... I went to lunch, came back, and you'd replied!
I don't think I've mentioned Treefolk as a possible archetype in years past, but it's definitely been floating around in my head as possible. I run a mono-green Treefolk deck with half of these cards in free-for-all Multiplayer, and it's been quite successful. Coupled with the fact that Wickerbough Elder and Lignify have stuck in my cube and aren't moving...
And yeah, I'll switch up the archetypes this year... variety is the spice of life! I was going to make the green one Treefolk anyway, just to see how it drafted for everyone (and hoping that it doesn't end up like Merfolk... which basically consists of a bunch of first-picks and a bunch of last-picks, so no-one ever ends up holding the full tribe).
EDIT: Oh, and I should add... Lignify even has its own enter-the-battlefield catchphrase in my playgroup: "Watch out for that... treeeeeeeee!" -
May 12, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2013 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - WhiteI almost threw a white tokens archetype in this year, TBH! I think you could probably make a very good archetype as it is, but it would probably be multicolour (either GW with Trostani, Parallel Lives, Doubling Season etc. or BW with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, Lingering Souls etc).Posted in: CadaverousBl00m Blog
I reckon white Soldiers is probably a card or two off being a very good archetype as it is - Darien, King of Kjeldor, Knight-Captain of Eos, Mobilization, Martial Coup, just about any Elspeth...
Can't say I've put a figure on the minimum number of turns per reset before a game is declared "not fun anymore", but my gut feel is that it's probably about 9-10 turns. That's long enough for someone who's had an imperfect draw or a disrupted setup to a) at least feel like they've got something decent going, or b) blow it all up with the reset they have.
Most of the resets in my own cube are quite conditional, too. Wrath of God is pretty much the only straight "blow it all up right now" reset I have. Disk takes a turn, Austere Command chops and changes what it resets, most of the red ones (like Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction) won't necessarily get everything... Between limiting those you have, and making sure they're not all silver bullets, you should have a pretty decent balance of things (and it places greater draft value upon the really good ones - *** is a high pick in my cube, and rightfully so). -

The best thing I've found to do with the new sets? I usually want playsets of about nine or ten commons and uncommons from a set - just enough to justify splashing for a full common/uncommon playset (which can usually be had inside the US for under $30). I love buying one of these, and then letting my friends pick over the leftovers. We even split an M12 playset between four people recently and drafted it. -

@Zelderex: Yeah, I'm waiting to see if it stays banned in Modern, really. That is one Banned List in flux right now, apparently in the interests of knocking out Turn 1-3 kills. Not sure Valakut does that without Scapeshift. I wouldn't be horribly surprised to see them eventually ban Scapeshift and unban Valakut. Not sure that would make for a Modern-competitive deck, though.
@MrZeyeti: Agreed, Sorin's certainly not a house. I kind of expect him to end up price-wise about where Chandra Nalaar is now. He's now had his reprint (making him more available), and he's not seeing tournament play... eventually we have to reach saturation point, like we did with Chandra. At $5-6 a copy, I'm not interested in getting a Sorin or two to throw in a deck, but at $2-3, I probably am! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Wasteland and Strip Mine would probably be good if you were running a Loam archetype, yeah. Outside of that, probably not.
I've thought about adding them in mine, but they're only ever going to take out a shockland or Nykthos, really. Everything else is a fetch, or a bit pointless to aim at.
I'm in Australia, and I have Sethron and his token in hand. These were an SE Asia / Australia exclusive for Lunar New Year, and were given to stores as prize support for the Lunar New Year weekend. You can't get these anywhere outside of APAC LGSs.
Not sure about Yuriko, as I didn't see it down here (that may only be available in mainland SE Asia or something), but Sethron can definitely be found in Chinese as well as English.
I was really fortunate that my state was coming out of a pandemic lockdown, and one of my local stores just decided to YOLO it and offer them free with every $40+ purchase. I walked in with my fam, and walked out with four envelopes.
Damn, you so right. Can you tell I've been too run off my feet to have a strong look yet? Some of the Brawl commanders should be snap includes (especially Chulane... Bant is a wasteland ATM).
And agreed on The Great Henge, too... I'm going to have to find a way to get one and smash it in, I think.
What did everyone add for ELD?
I believe I'm actually at zero adds for this set (which astounds me)...
Building a Multiplayer Cube - Blue
This is for my kids' cube with a cut-down set of abilities, so no Adventure or Adamant. I also have a sum total of something like three Knights in the entire cube, so Knight Tribal is a non-starter for me too. After that, I've still got room for six changes.
i0, I promised I was actually going to go and see how many cards in my cube got stuffed up by the templating before I totally freaked out about adding planeswalkers.
Well, it's taken me six months, but...
There are fifteen cards in my cube that won't read like they can hit planeswalkers. Of these, I believe about twelve of them are not available in any sort of printing that says "any target".
Looking at the planeswalkers I would want to add, there were really only two potential home-runs - Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter and Jaya, Venerated Firemage. In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle to bork 12-15 cards up just to fit two more into the cube. Maybe once decent uncommon planeswalkers hit a critical mass for me...
The kids hate life loss (like we all did at that point of our Magic careers, I guess), so Phyrexian Reclamation would likely be lowly picked (and I'd probably beat them over the head with it every draft).
From there, it was pretty close for me between Crossroads and Tortured Existence. I find Crossroads tends to be better if you have some additional card draw - Existence will ask that you toss any extra card advantage overboard to get back what you need, while Crossroads will allow you to carry on as normal. I find it's also a little better when you're in topdeck mode. But yes, very close between those two, and it probably depends on your cube construction as to which of the two is a better choice.
I know MaRo likes to cringe about fetches in Standard, but they may well have cleared the decks well enough to enable this to happen, for all I know.
I'll discuss my recent adds when I get a chance. Until then, I'm starting to take people on a journey through my multiplayer cube.
Back for more, this time with a journey through my own multiplayer cube!
I actually thought I was running both Chandra's Spitfire and Goblin Bombardment already... but Spitfire is apparently not in the list. Suspect it's been in my Multiplayer cube at some point (because Spitfire + Earthquake = let's lose friends for the evening).
Bombardment is definitely there, and definitely behaves as you mention, Marth - I've seen it win a game in the last six months or so (which, considering how often the kids get the cube out for a proper tourney, is a pretty high marker).
Spitfire is likely the card I should be running, but maybe I'll try and lay hands on a Wildfire Elemental and see how it behaves before I go all the way down the Spitfire rabbit hole.
If "off-color mono" means something like a card with an off-color cost in it, Momentary Blink is probably the card. Dovin is pretty good, though. Aethertow is not.
Indeed, that's my concern too - it will work well if you've got a large field to swing with...
... but then are you a) going to accidentally burn it off the table with Pyrohemia before you get anywhere? Or b) be stuck somewhere between building a red burn deck and a Goblin deck, and get neither right (i.e. draw all the Goblins and no damage, or vice-versa)?
