I remember when promos were real cards.

And the fact that I remember when tokens were originally promos makes me feel old lol

Seems like we'll start seeing more foil double-sided tokens. Here's a blurb from the WPN page:

We're planning a new in-store Magic league program, and we need your input!

Between October 10 and November 27, any WPN member that participates in our Magic League playtest will be eligible to receive 30 premium, foil, double-sided, promo token cards with a servo on one side and a thopter on the other, for rewarding players at your future events. Tokens will be delivered to participating stores in early 2017.

Hey guys, here's an Innistrad-themed spirit token I worked on recently. I'll be printing these out to give away at some of the conventions I'll be attending this summer. Feel free to share your thoughts!

The demon does pretty well confirm the return of a graveyard theme, noticably absent from avacyn restored.

Absent? Yes. But it will (hopefully) serve as some nice cross-block synergy if Shadows Over Innistrad turns out to have a graveyard-matters theme (which I think is pretty reasonable to expect).

No to mention they did 3 different wastland effects which is odd

    It REALLY IS odd lol

I agree though. I get LD effects are cool, and I think Wasteland was too good an opportunity to pass up on. That said, they could have gone with different, non-plane specific land effects in those two other slots. Ah, I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth now Smile

What I find stange is that they print the colorless basics in oath rather than bfz.

I hear that, from a flavor stand point. But none of the big themes in BFZ benefited from these basics. THAT SAID - I wish this would've been developed over two sets rather than one, but if it works out well enough, we'll be salivating for more Zendikar and the re-emergence of colorless basics.

What would be the function of this new land if it adds a colorless-like mana since we already have that?

Off the top of my head, it impacts EDH/Commander because decks lead by colorless commanders now have access to a limitless number of one land, rather than having to depend solely on (potentially expensive) non-basics. In terms of regular gameplay, it essentially acts as a 6th color, in that you're rewarded for NOT running only regular basics by being able to cast spells and activate abilities that require the colorless symbol.

So at first glance, he's clearly colorless and thus available to any deck. But I see what you mean; the wording on color identity means that he can't be in any deck who's commander doesn't have the "stars" in their cost or text. But isn't it safe to assume that this isn't a new color, and thus still colorless? (...or are you making a funny observation that's clearly going over my head? lol)
No idea but that answer will lead to how well this set it received in the long run. I assumed that it was a new color, but it could be more like Phyrexian mana where it needs to be paid with blah blah blah something rules.

Yeah, my money's on the "phyrexian mana" approach. Strange that they didn't lead with this in the large set, but there's so much still left unknown. We'll see.

I like that he's not legal in any EDH deck we currently have.

So these can be fetch with Terramporphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds, but not the other (re: better) fetches. That seems oddly on-flavor.

Hello, I recently finished a Battle for Zendikar-themed play mat featuring Ulamog and Nissa (with Ashaya). It's hand drawn with india ink pens on a blank Ultra Pro mat. I sold it over the weekend but I wanted to share it here.

I feel underwhelmed by this. Like, the amount of whelming is less than I'd hoped for.

Idk, I get that this isn't a super sexy card but if you're running 5 color allies (assuming that ends up being a thing), this card seems like a nice way to secure an alpha strike. Being able to tap down 5 of their bigger things and swing in seems like a good way to either win on the spot or bring your opponent's life down by a fair margin. Couplee with March from the Tomb, I see this as a strong support card for that deck. Scry 3 is pretty strong if you're trying to get to that March or something that'll help you rebuild your board after multiple wipes.

oh c'mon, plaguelord was at least 4/4 body....
    A 3/3 plus a 1/1 is usually better than a 4/4.

True, but a 4/4 for 5 is far away from constructed. And I don*t think the ability redeems the card. And I never understood the reasons to making rares for limited play.
Well, they can't all be winners...

Limited play is popular, and making certain effects at common or uncommon would throw off the balance of the set within that environment. It's weird having two tiers of appreciation of cards, I'll grant you that. But I get the need for some cards/effects to appear less often than others.
