Yea, the servers going down so fast is annoying... Mostly because we have been so anxious to get into it. But yea, welcome to a game release, and that no developer seems to be ready for the flood. Or they try, and it ends up being higher then planned. Oh well, servers needing help is better then still waiting on the game.

Zac Hill did let slip the phrase "enchantment tokens" during PT coverage today. He tried to play it off by rambling about tribal tokens and planeswalker tokens but he seemed flustered almost as if he knew he said something he wasn't supposed to so take that as you may.

Ohhh, could Imperial Mask or some new cousin versions be making an appearance, if it is a Enchantment focused set? Would love that, the Mask is still a favorite protection of mine, even if I never get into team games much, oddly.

One theory I've seen thrown around is that these are the "original" breed of Slivers. We know the Slivers on Rath were brought there from another plane (like everything else) and that Volrath had been performing experiments on them (like most other living things on Rath). It's possible that his experiments had greatly altered their morphology and changed how their hive mind works (the "all" vs. "you control" discrepancy). Or the original brood had simply taken an alternate evolutionary path at some point during the millenia between then and now.

    Quote from luminum can
It still makes sense that different broods (aka hives controlled by different players) would have separate hive minds that don't interfere with one another. Colony insects IRL don't have a single universal hive structure, they remain separate and distinct hives that can and do come into conflict with one another without "crossed signals" so to speak.

And Lum has similar thinking a friend and I did about these new Slivers and the possibility they are originally from Shandalar. Which then made me realize something... That means Blizzard somehow stole the idea and put it out first by incorporating it into Heart of the Swarm. Is it identical? No, but the similarities of home world and hive packs and such, which would fit with color identity of these new slivers... It's something I hope they expand heavily, and get into.

I'm not shocked at the new Sliver ability style, since they prefer not giving to all, but the look... I'm on the fence. If it is like the thought these are original, 'Prime' Slivers that weren't corrupted by Volrath and being in Rath, It'll be interesting to see how they go. Personally... I'm hoping for a Hivestone reprint, just to make things silly, among other things...

.... I adore this card, and yet can't help being amused at the fact my first thought was the Magic verions of a Big Daddy from Bioshock.

Edit: Wow, SO many people beat me to saying it, hehe.

    He might not of, true. It's late, makes me nitpicky without meaning to. ^^;;

But yea. since we're getting those baggy type guild packs, instead of the boxes of before, I don't think the sealing will be a worry, but sadly doubt they'll swap it up much...

And I'm with you on going to roots. Seles is perfect to my style, and did me well before. Good luck in yours. ^^

They will be of your chosen guild and one of it's allied color sharing guilds.

So Dimir, could be allied with any of Orzhov, Azorious, Rakdos, Izzet, ect.

I thought it was allied only with a guild of the opposite set? Ala, Dimir would only have Azorious, Rakdos, Gorgari, or Izzet for example? Not sure, that's what I recalled hearing.

On topic though, no, you get none of the older prerelease cards, you just get a guild pack from the guild you pic, secret ally pack, and then the other four to make your 6 total.

Edit: As to the guild packs? I... 'think' that's right. I believe the main guild one, should be one of the guild packs you could have gotten originally. And the secret ally, I believe *this one I'm not as sure about* should be a guildpack for said secret ally. So it should be the same setup, ala the different possible packs, that you could get before.

Demon's "mask" looks exactly the same.

Huh, so it did. I swear looking at it last night, I was having an odd bit of trouble making out the look beyond the demon's head being fire with some flat symbol I thought was more angled away.... Can see it much clearer today. I still find the similarity amusing, even though I doubt there is any actual connection between the two. *ala Avacyn and Shadowborn*

Still, a neat put in, for casual and such decks to play with, beyond just the obvious connection to the same set demon.

Side note, anyone else look at the top of the Apostle's staff, and notice the shape is oddly similiar to the Avacyn symbol, especially the version at the end of her staff? The odd things one notices when tired.

While I'm sure someone more articulate with the rules might clarify better, No he can not. As you said, it's your turn, so if he Wasteland's in response, your ability is still on the stack, and will try to finish with as much as it can. Lands go boom, and still get your demon. Even if he tried to do it, as long as you have the mana in your pool, you can still trigger it when he goes to boom it.

As you used 2 Dark Rituals to get the mana *which should have been 5, shouldn't it? 1 Swamp into 3 Black Mana, lose one and then gain 3 for 5, yes?*, He does have one shot. If he Wasteland's in response to your first Ritual, You can still cast the second, but the first won't resolve until the land is dead. At that point, it depends if you have a 4th black mana to pop it before, or not. That I believe is the only way he could have interrupted your effort.

Edit: From Studoku's post, I just noticed the land saccing was part of the cost, and not the ability starting, so I was incorrect on that point.

As a side question to this question. Any creature who was large enough to survive in the field with Heartless Summoning out, would get a +1/+1 counter from Cathars' Crusade though, for each creature coming in and dieing, because they still do enter, even if they keel over dead upon hitting the field?

While I tweak with my own Sliver 5color deck, and find some ambition to get the decklist up, I thought I would give the list my friend plays with. A nasty monster I helped inspire Kekeke

I may not have absolutely all the answers to some problems... But unless the one member of our group tends to neuter it hard and give it no start time, it's made some nasty plays since it's first build, up to this current incarnation.

I sympathize myself, OP. I was out of Magic from around... Tempest block, with only sparing peeks and all around Scourge time, before getting back into it with current gaming friends about a year and a half ago. And Plainswalkers, the rare time I ran into them tended to make my head spin a little at first dealing with them. It's something you'll adjust to, and hopefully you'll even find one who fits themes you like and can snag to enjoy using yourself!

Personally, my first one I got was a Nissa Revane, the promo from the Duel one game, that a friend just gave me among alot of other things, to help my making my own elf deck. I've been rather happy with her, and Elspeth, Knight-Errant since I snagged her from the Duel deck as well as one off a friend, recently. I would say the approach of finding one that fits themes you like playing and working to get it and try it, would help getting the feel alot better.

Lets keep in mind, Privileged doesn't shroud itself. "Other permanents you control can't be the targets of spells or abilities your opponents control." Means it doesn't shroud itself, unless you get something else to cover for it. Least with how Copy and Privileged work.

Ahhh, cool cool. Yea, it was mostly wanting to confirm that Soldevi makes the mana, by the time Nim triggers, for it to be spent on. Now, to help my friend think of odd Eye theme deck ideas... Thanks for the quick answers!

  • posted a message on Soldevi Andent + Nim Deathmantle thought
A slight point got brought up, from a play test of an odd black deck I've been working on. I noticed that having Soldevi Adnate, Kuro, Pitlord, Nim Deathmantle, and four extra mana out, I could use the Soldevi to crack the pitlord, being it back by tapping my lands for the 4 mana with Nim's special ability, thus leaving me nine black mana to play with. After bringing this up with a friend, he brought up how using Staff of Domination you could then use 3 to untap the Soldevi, 1 to untap the staff, and be left with 5, which repeating the cycle could then net a gain of one black per cycle.

The actual point of the posting here, is more about the first Saccing happens, can the mana made by Soldevi Sacrifing Kuro be used for Nim that turn around? Or is it like I'm thinking, that the first time, you'll need those 4 mana from outside the loop for it, before being able to basically keep itself looping?
