Mind Over Matter + Pristine Talisman with Oloro in play is insta win. Use the life gain and mana from talisman to activate Oloro then discard said card to MoM. Repeat til table is dead.
You could also run a Reveillark combo if you want a combo finish.
The problem with this poll is your price range. There is no way you are gonna build a good version of Ghave or Narset for under $200. Nin is the only one you can build and it still be a good list for under $200.
It seems logical that eventually there would be a time when there are too many reasons(storyline or otherwiseto have two or more return blocks in a row. It's insinuated that we will be returning to Ravnica more than just this once.
I'm going to argue decidedly against the multicolored/wedge theme spec. In fact, I'm actually feeling like Sarkhan might end up being mono-red. Let's think this through...
1. MaRo, along with others WotC sources, has gone on record saying that it's too soon for another multicolor set.
2. Sets are designed to mix synergistically (for Standard's sake), though sometimes there are lulls due to mismatched themes. ALA-ZEN was one such lull, Scars-INN was arguably another. Guess what? So is RTR-THS. Now, what would lead to a better pairing? Another set with a monocolor (sub)theme.
3. When was the last time we had a mono-red walker in a block-based set? Innistrad (two years ago). Think about how long that was. We're (over)due for one, no?
4. Sarkhan's color identity is Shard-based. He's Jund. That shouldn't change any time soon, regardless of his allegiance to Bolas (or lack thereof). Making him Red-White would totally clash with this. Plus, there's literally nothing about Sarkhan that's ever felt flavorfully white. He's chaotic, angry, passionate, violent/war-like, tribal, and morally compromised. You can downplay some of this for a monocolored version, but it would take a lot more work to suddenly present him as white.
5. I'm not sure one way or another about Vol leaving Bolas' service, but having him be pure red would be all that's needed to show the break. Going straight from black to white would be overdone and clunky, IMHO.
6. Going back to Tarkir in general, I feel confidant that this set will be more like, say, Scars in terms of its approach to flavor and colors. We'll see duals and maybe even some special ability lands, but definitely not the Allied Fetches, or enemy manlands. Again, this is going to be a set that will probably feel more simplified and stripped down (in comparison to INN).
There is already a flaw in you logic as they also said the same thing about the RtR block. MaRo had said they thought it was too soon after Mirrodin for another Return block.
Tower of the Magistrate is fantastic. Part of the lack of votes may be that people just don't have them. Most of the time I drop one into play only half the people seems to know what it does.
You actually said the bigger reason why it is not getting the votes it deserves and a problem with the older lands in general. Even though EDH is an eternal format it is dominated by much newer players. Unless they do something super powerful chances are its not well known. It is also possible people don't think its good because it isn't good in their meta thing is going on.
Really? I think Sunhome is an excellent land and since most W/R or W/R/x decks run aggro, it is practically a staple.
Really the only decks that want Sunhome is Aurelia and Gisela. Most other W/R/x decks don't really want it.
Ummm.. ANY R/W general that beats down loves it. Tajic, Jor Kadeen, Anax and Cymede, etc. etc. It's devastating in Kaalia as well. Double-striking Lord of the Void hurts. BAD.
Also, I've heard rumors of this guy who Stalks through Mists..
I never said it wasn't good. Just they don't actively want it.
I feel this week really shouldn't even be needed for the list. The six new nominations are by far better than the six we voted off. I am however surprised by which is getting the more votes. Stage having more votes than Cavern is kinda mind blowing.
I'll throw my second support behind Kher Keep. There are many decks where having the ability to make an instant-speed token is invaluable.
However, I also want to revisit the point made by NinjaNate. Are we purposefully ignoring all dual/shock/fetch lands? Has the distinction ever been made that this list should only reflect utility lands?
Just my personal opinion, but generic duals don't really have a place here. Everyone knows the ABUR duals are the best, and every other vanilla dual is strictly worse. And really, do you want to waste two spots on the list just to reinforce that everyone knows the original duals and shocks are really good?
I would also hesitate to put entire cycles of just fixing lands on the list. We could easily just remove all the lands and have original duals, shocks, and fetches be 3/5 of the list but thats boring.
I was just wondering why there are no duals on the list if we are talking about the best lands period for commander. Also I would not suggest to put them all there. Just have the spot titled Dual lands and encompass all.
So why do we not have a Dual land, Shock Land, and Buddy land on the list representing all of the said lands? Or just a spot on the list named Dual lands encompassing all the dual lands without utility?
I will nominate Madblind Mountain. The ability to shuffle your deck in red is very good.
I will support Cavern of Souls. I don't know how this card wasn't already on the list. It should always be the first land in your deck.
You could also run a Reveillark combo if you want a combo finish.
Luminarch Ascension is always great in a control deck with board wipes.
Then there is always making lots of mana to use on Exsanguinate effects.
There is actually a thread here with alot of combo wins listed.
I wonder about some of the creature choices. Some could be better.
Indeed Ravinca is pretty much a waystation plane.
