Since we're talking about monoliths, can someone explain why there is such a difference in market value between Grim Monolith and Basalt Monolith?

Reading the wiki page for tournament pack

    http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/Tournament_pack

it says the packs only started with Revised, but they already existed in the two limited and the unlimited editions.

I'd correct it myself but there's probably something I'm missing.

Did anyone use this website? It seems to have closed in 2005, does anyone know why?

I guess there's not much point to this thread. Tell your collectmart-related stories here (did they scam you? Did you get an amazing deal?) otherwise let this thread sink to its death.

I remember getting a 100 card random pile from Revised for $3 and it was all rares. Crappy rares like Farmstead and Eye for an Eye, but still rares!

I have literally pulled thousands of dollars worth of cards from vintage packs. The trick is to have started playing when those boosters were still the current set and buy a whole lot of them.

Yeah, I thought about that as well, but then I remembered you need a time machine for that. :p Actually, I did hear rumours about one, but it turns out it was just a ride at a stupid amusement park.

Drafting with an old old set would be super fun.

The Electronics Boutique store at my local mall would have someone come in once a week and put a post-it note saying what the rare was back when Revised was around. I remember buying a whole bunch of packs with Duals for $3. For some reason, the Chaoslace sat around in the bottom of the box week after week.

Wait, I don't understand, did the store owners know about this? Were they okay with some guy marking their booster packs?

That's some insane luck, locifer. Almost as if you made had made a pact with.... lucifer OMG

I was perfectly aware of the possibility of being sold a scanned pack, but I did it regardless for old time's sake, and because internet is the only way I can buy something like that. I mean, vintage boosters are rare enough in the States, so think how impossible they are to find in Europe!

Also, I haven't actually played Magic in years, I was really just doing this as a gamble/nostalgia combination.

[font=Times New Roman][size=3]@ the OP : Reverse Polarity was an uncommon. The rare was usually the fourth card, between the uncommons and the rares.

Man, I should know, I just sold a complete Revised edition to someone last week.

I looked again and my rare was...... PERSONAL INCARNATION!!! Slant

Loving the stories, people, keep them coming.

People who bought stuff online other than e-bay, do post links to the shops (if the forum allows it). I said I'm never gonna do it again, but, heh, you never know, really.

Do you people buy these? Boosters from 1993-1994? Alpha, Legends, Arabian Nights?

There are often boosters like these selling on E-bay, and even though they are reknown for being easy to screen without opening them, I took the plunge and bought a Legends and a Revised booster, spending about $85 in the process. The rares I got were Divine Transformation and Reverse Polarity, and no interesting uncommons to speak of. (well, I got a Urborg which is kind of famous but still worthless). I'm pretty sure there was something wrong with the Revised booster because the rare was the first card of the pile, facing up, and I was pretty sure the rare is always on the bottom of the pile, making it harder to see through the package.
Of course I could've scanned the pack myself, but I was so sure the rare was going to be on the bottom that I didn't bother. Then I could've re-sold the sealed package, but that's not good karma, is it?

So to give this thread some worth, post here any interesting stories related to recent aquisitions you've made related to 1993-1994 boosters (to be clear, I'm talking about the booster packs that weren't tin-foil), what did you pull? Were you blatantly scammed?

And also, any stories from back in the day when Beta boosters were still $4.00 or whatever, if anyone that played back then still posts here.

Yeah I made the same topic on mtgnews.com but that place is pretty dead so I reposted here. Don't hate me.
