Yes, no control player would know how to use Path to Exile or Oblivion Ring. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH WHAT TO DO! In this format you can take 15 and then deal with him and move on in the game, cuz that is 12-posts entire plan.
I really hope they don't ban anything else. If they just shave the banned list they format will balance itself. I'd rather play an interactive format with a collection of old standard boogeymen than "hurp derp emrakul/twin/ascension let's go to game 2". Of the nine decks with 10+ players at the PT, seven were combo, and the other two were Zoo and Flingfinity.
Cloudpost can resolve T4-5 Emrakul without casting a single spell before that. It's not that people didn't know what to expect so they didn't bring control. They knew EXACTLY what to expect, and that no control deck they had could beat that and still have game against the rest of the field.
All this info is super interesting. Except without a link to prove or cite the fact I am assuming that you rolled some dice and lied through your keyboard to give me these AWESOME FACTOIDS!
I'm inclined to agree with those saying that this metagame is a bit meaningless as it's very hard to construct a control deck for a completely unknown metagame. However...
Wizards: "Guyz, don't worry, we're going to banhammer every combo deck that can win before turn 4 - we won't let those nasty combo decks hurt you." (Read: "We don't want it to look like combo decks make up too much of the meta in the first Modern PT.") PT metagame breakdown: control - 8.63%; aggro - 34.53%; control - 72.90%. * Combo players:
* yes, that does add up to more than 100% - some decks are aggro-control/aggro-combo/combo-control..
Patrick Chapin's RUG Pod deck led him to a 9th place finish (+ the drafting). It's apparently extremely solid against Caw-Blade and I agree after playing with a little. Consider it.
Yea, its really good considering it doesnt have Twin combo and the Cunning Sparkmage is really tough for caw to deal with! Let alone MB Natures Claim
the word of judges is enough to know he was right, just not to fully understand it. And if we need to have a sanctioned judge for FNM, then this shop shouldnt be sanctioned... lol Thanks for the links and rules quotes guys, I really appreciate it!
I really appreciate the time you all spent in replying, but I am looking for a link to a wizards post explaining the rules changes. It is nothing personal, but I like to learn it for myself. Much of what has been said could have been copy pasted from what I wrote... and as I am looking to start becoming a judge once im fully brushed up on things again, I don't want to just take anyone's word for it. And as for the guy that wants to have a semantics fight... nope. no judge at our FNM, cuz the TO is not a jerk and doesnt go out on a limb with rules he isnt positive about. Remember please... links to legit wizards posts only please.... I already believed him he was right, i just want to understand why. and the exact effects this rules change has on the game.
Hey guys, So I have just come back to magic after a break... (I stopped playing as Lorwyn came out) and I am back! I was at FNM last night and had an interesting issue. I attacked my opponent with 2 5/5 artifacts i made from Tezzeret and a Creeping Tar Pit... he was at 4 life. He blocked a 5/5 with wurmcoil engine and said that he would live due to lifelink. We dont have a judge at our shop, but the knowledgeable rules people there (which includes myself) were pretty split about what would happen. I know for a fact that in the past, there was a brief time where the game recognized him as at 0 or less life and he died... but I am not 100% on the m10 changes to combat damage. I conceded that he was right for the sake of the tournament (since its in the area of the rules that changed during my absence) and was wondering if anyone can point me to a judge's ruling or wizards post to discuss this change! thanks guys! FYI i am relatively sure he is correct from what I read... but being me I want proof from wizards =D
