I agree with Serberus_08, you don't need both Ulamog's. If you're playing bounce combo New Ulamog is better, if you're playing 1v1 or very aggressive, Old Ulamog's annihilator ends up better, but I don't think you need to play both.
Back again, I won that league btw. Accelerated too fast for braids to keep me down most of the time, and if prosh couldn't one shot me, then it was my game. I never really played against mareth in the tourney as she couldn't make it past "one punch prosh" and "inexorable stax" braids. Yes I am missing recruiter, working on saving up.
As for the eldrazi, if you are doing multiplayer, you may not need all of them. You can make your deck as slow and as fun as you want. Battlecruiser magic is fun.
But if you are competing for prize and doing single player I would recommend generally how i have it. Redundancy is the key when you may need multiple answers. This is why you run multiple tutors for key pieces. Makes a highlander effect in 99 come up obviously more often. If you don't draw the card, then you can tutor for it. If your first attempt is thwarted, you can always grab the next in succession.
For example, if you out totally accelerate past your opponent, grabbing Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger and sniping 2 things (usually lands, or blockers) is boss as it makes sure that even if they draw something on their turn they can't use it. One important note that Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger exiles two (gets rid of gods like purphoros, etc.) If your opponent is in a more developed state Ulamog, The Infinite Gyre can not only vindicate one threat but is set up the very next turn to unusually knock half their board state away. The difference is the new one gets rid of more right away, or wait a turn for annihilator. A turn can loose you the game. Even more important with these two is that they are indestructible. Common threats like board wipes usually mean less when you still have an eldritch horror still on the board after the dust settles.
Kozilek, Butcher of Truth is pretty sweet too. Not usually your tutor target, 4 cards to hand on cast is amazing. I wouldn't recommend Kozilek, the Great Distortion as that awkward moment when you need draw and you have a bunch of land in hand will come up. Solid 4 is more reliable. Plus squeezing colorless into the landbase while seemingly easy isn't always. Though, certainly test it out if you have a copy.
I have tested Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in 1v1. It was fun, but hitting 15, unless you are already going infinite and winning, is a chore. Otherwise hitting "emi, the flying spagetti monster" usually wins you the game or gets you close enough.
Artisan of Kozilek at 9 isn't too hard to reach, neither is the 10 or 11 for the others. Having a way to recover a toolbox piece or grab a piece of combo that was sniped early can end the game on it's own. Annihilator 2 isn't too shabby either.
Yes you can draw them at inappropriate times, but the same is true with lands and you have 30-40 of those suckers.
As cloudstone has one tutor in the deck, that's 2 in 99 (in my list.) You will also notice a disturbing lack of morphs. Morphs are good but it is a strategy you have to dedicate a bunch of slots to creatures that come down free and get better when you need/can afford them. I just think my choices are better in slot and improve my board state immediately as opposed to later. I elected to keep cloudstone in the list because it can just help win a game, but i don't think it is as necessary or as powerful in my list.
The Myojins can be fun, but triple of a color can be hard to put together. At 10 I'd rather cast eldrazi. On that note, if you don't have eldrazi, they can be decentish replacements.
It has certainly been a while since I've shared my decklist progress.
This is the Animar list I've converted for a French 1v1 league. (Which I am conquering btw.) It is breakneck fast and is still fairly viable in multiplayer.
I would just have to remove some of the less legal cards for normal multiplayer games, prime time for example.
My local game store is holding Tiny Leaders events this month and I wanted to make something really good. Sure I was able to slap together Burn, merfolk, and elves from other decks (legacy, edh, etc.)
And those do decently.
I've always wanted to do something cool in Dega. Alesha is perfect for this kind of thing. I enjoy the legacy deck Death and Taxes. I also enjoyed Aristocrats back during RTR standard. I tried to draw inspiration from both to make this list. It isn't a bad list right now by any means, but I know I can improve it. Just working on the "How" and am looking for suggestions. I can also explain card choices if people are curious.
Common decks in my TL meta include others playing my own decks, BUDoomsday, Omnath Elframp, etc.
What are your guys thoughts on Kruphix himself, he seems to be on the lower end of things i wanna rush out of my hand usually. I know he is great when animar isn't around.. Thoughts?
Out's Mulldrifter - Not sure on it Maelstrom Wanderer - don't own yet Kozilek, Butcher of Truth - Mondern masters 2, soon.... Words of wind- Have rarely found a good situation for this card
[cardCrop Rotation[/card] – Don’t have a Gaea’s cradle to make this worth the include Glimpse of Nature – don’t have yet, working on it.
Ravnica bounce lands – don’t like em
[b]In's spellskite – extra protection for animar Surrak Dragonclaw - Plenty of control in my meta Deadeye Navigator - Inf mana with 3 pieces, instant speed protection when on board, and utter etb abuse Chromatic lantern - Color fixing for maximum efficiency. Worldly Tutor – May be a tutor to top deck, but is instant speed. Possibility Storm – Screws with control and gives you double casts on creature spells means extra counters on animar.
More fetches – I own them
I'm an odd kind of gamer, so i rarely pick favorites and usually play a little of everything. Hence the list of lists.
Memorable moments so far?
Well i had a turn 6/7 win with thoctar. Turn 3 he came down, turn 4 armadillo cloak and one of the one drop totem auras. And just beat my opponent into submission with lifelink and trample. He was playing lumbernaut voltron and just couldn't race.
Mr. Bairn is has a few funny stories. Infinite mana, infinite damage, infinite 1/1 elves. And a game where I beat my opponent to death with a helium squirter that ended somewhere around a 24/24 flier.
Zombies is also kind of cool. There have been games where i've won by abusing pestilence with an almost empty field. Others, where the field was filled to the brim with the undead and they were dead if i made it to attack step, or dead if i sacrificed everything.
Recently my gaming group decided to get into pauper EDH and with my massive collection it didn't cost me anything to slap these together. I was also trying to made diverse decks with different strategies not only to keep me from being bored, but also to lend to other players.
If i decide to make more I will post them here.
note: my edgewalker deck isn't too far different from the already posted list. So I won't be posting it here. But you can find the other list Here.
Tribal Zombies. With the Cpt'n they are deadly if left alive. Also if the Cpt'n is on duty they are just as dangerous dying too.
Originally started as a fusion of two other previously archived lists: Here and here. I of course changed it to the point where I thought it was worth posting separately from the other two.
Was originally going to build a Gruul beast deck with Skarrg Guildmage, but after much internal debate i decided to go naya and went with the biggest cheapest beast in naya colors I know, Woolly Thoctar. A good alternative general would be Knotvine Mystic because its pretty top notch ramp.
It started as a fusion of the other 2 guilder bairn pauper lists: Here and Here. Then I added some new creatures that came out after the other lists were posted, primarily the evolve creatures. I thought this changed the list enough from the other two to make it worth posting separately.
Hey tweaking my legacy affinity deck for an upcoming modern tournament, and i was looking at the different variants.
My old legacy one was esper-affinity-stoneforge. Obviously stoneforge herself cannot be played, while i had more white in the deck I was playing with ethersworn Canonist, a nice old gal who likes to slow anything not artifact centered down.
I was wondering if anyone tried to make a white centered affinity deck pushing ethersworn cannonist, dispatch, and maybe ye old tempered steel. Think something like that would be viable or is Miss Cannonist doomed forever to be a sideboard card if even that?
---------
I was also looking at the core and at those two Galvanic Blasts and was wondering if a thoughtsieze would be better mainboard or sideboard instead of the Blasts?
Yo, it has been a while since I have posted on this forum, mostly been in standard and legacy. In legacy I play affinity and burn. The modern tide has been growing in my play group so I have been looking to convert my Legacy Burn to a more modern legal form.
I'd also like to discuss Searing Blood vs Searing Blaze. I know a few people have tried to bring it up in the past few pages but to no great length was it discussed.
Searing Blaze:
Pros: 3 to creature and 3 to player
Cons: Needs landfall to be worth casting normally.
Searing Blood
Pros: requires no previous set up
Cons: needs to kill the creauture to hit the player, only deals 2 damage to the creature.
So the trade off is 1 less damage to the creature but no landfall required.
Or
needs landfall to deal 3 and 3.
With fetches I know landfall isn't terribly hard. But which is more consistent? 2 toughness creatures to remove or landfall? With Wild Nacatl back is searing blood made irrelevant?
Still playin b/w zombies, but i could use some opinions.
For sideboarding against control, i have 4 slots. Prior to DM, these slots were filled by thalia. She usually comes down early, and gives them a hard time until they can field clear turn 5.
However, in DM there was this real cool b/w dood. Sin Collector who comes down a turn later, but permanently exiles a int/sorc spell of my choice from their hand. So i can axe a counterspell or the field clear spell or w/e.
So my question is... 4 of thalia, 4 of sin collector, or 2/2 split?
As smooth criminal pretty much said. With lotleth troll and maybe lily this card can become a powerhouse. Without either it is subpar.
BTW still running my B/W zombies and still topping my local FNMs. 2 fnms ago I got a greater appreciation for witchbane orb. Stopped an izzet burn at the stake deck dead and a mill deck. I ploped them down game 2 and they had no response main or sideboard. Since then the izzet b.a.t.s. deck has wizened up and added artifact removal to the sideboard, but i have 3 in mine. Feeling confident if i have to fight him again.
I've seen pretty high sucess with this decklist at my local FNM, 3rd place 3 weeks in a row. It isn't the match ups, i occasionally just get mana screwed/flooded. And all my pile shuffling, carefully calculated ratios, and money I threw to make this deck means nothing.
There really are no darker or more evil situations in all of magic than those of the mana screw and mana flood.
My only complaint about the list is the Cartel Aristocrats. Sure they are a sacoutlet and combo well with gravecrawlers, messengers, and lingering souls, but I also feel I'd rather have a different card. Only once did I ever combo out with 2 gravecrawlers, a blood artist, some souls and her to sac for game. I almost feel like i would rather have x2 Killing Wave and +2 Blood Artrist. Or at least a 3/3 split between C.aristocrat and artist.
So I started trying out WB Zombies due to the recent 2nd place winning list.
Besides the obvious gravecrawler loop using it as a sac outlet or the occasional lingering soul to keep it on the field... Why should I include this card maindeck (as a 4 of or 3 of) over an exalted knight, or more blood artists and killing wave?
I often find myself sideboarding this card out for exalted knights or thalia.
Am I missing the overall appeal of this card or what?
So I had an idea, but i am not sure if it'd be wise.
I was considering putting together a transformational sideboard for my necra zombie-dad list to turn it into a more traditional ghost-dad list. My conundrum is if i should make the mainboard the aggro and side the rampy lifegain. or vise versa. Or should I keep my anti-meta sideboard? As a note I will be going to a different and mostly unknown meta this week. The only decks I know will be there are 1 naya humies & golgari zombies [free fnm for the month]
My mainlist hasn't changed since I last posted it. [i took the 2 sorins back out and slapped the rancors back in].
The rampy lifegain would add a thrag, 4 resto's, 2 faithmenders, a third b.o., 3 pilgrims and 4 farseeks.
Back again, I won that league btw. Accelerated too fast for braids to keep me down most of the time, and if prosh couldn't one shot me, then it was my game. Gilder Bairn Counters/Synergy/Tokens/Combo Pauper EDH
It started as a fusion of the other 2 guilder bairn pauper lists: Here and Here. Then I added some new creatures that came out after the other lists were posted, primarily the evolve creatures. I thought this changed the list enough from the other two to make it worth posting separately.

For sideboarding against control, i have 4 slots. Prior to DM, these slots were filled by thalia. She usually comes down early, and gives them a hard time until they can field clear turn 5.
However, in DM there was this real cool b/w dood. Sin Collector who comes down a turn later, but permanently exiles a int/sorc spell of my choice from their hand. So i can axe a counterspell or the field clear spell or w/e.
So my question is... 4 of thalia, 4 of sin collector, or 2/2 split?
1x tormod's crypt
4x vampire nighthawk
2x Blind obedience
1x witchbane orb
2x blood baron of vizkopa
4x sin c./thalia

Cartel Aristocrat
So I started trying out WB Zombies due to the recent 2nd place winning list.
Besides the obvious gravecrawler loop using it as a sac outlet or the occasional lingering soul to keep it on the field... Why should I include this card maindeck (as a 4 of or 3 of) over an exalted knight, or more blood artists and killing wave?
I often find myself sideboarding this card out for exalted knights or thalia.
Am I missing the overall appeal of this card or what?
[sorry for lack of tags, not on a p.c. atm]
Thoughts?
