Not sure if it's legacy but dark petition is at $5.74 TCG Mid as of this writing with the lower priced sellers having little quantity available. Not sure what it means since petition is such a recent card I don't see the price really going up especially if people become aware of the new price and bring them out of storage.

Dark Petition increase is because of Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad. Brian Kibler was running a deck with Dark Petition, Seasons Past, and Nissa's Renewal.

And Finkel made T8 with the deck, going 8-1-1 in the Standard portion of the PT with it. Not sure if it will hold, as this seems like a great PT meta deck, but might not translate well to the more general meta. It is super sweet, though.

I hesitate to call it garbage, because I adore the card, but Mindless Automaton is super sweet with Ezuri, Claw of Progress and solid with the aforementioned Marchesa as well. Oh, it also works well with The Mimeoplasm.

I go through this sort of thing pretty much annually, and always find something that draws me back in. Sometimes it's a card or group of cards I want to play but have never been able to work into a deck before, sometimes it's a Commander with abilities different than my usual fare, etc. Most recently, I decided to make a deck featuring cards with the old frame only; I thought of it as a deckbuilding exercise, and it legitimately reinvigorated my desire to play the format as I compiled the decklist. The best advice I can give is not to force it, because then you'll build a deck you don't enjoy and you'll have spent all of that time and effort (and maybe money) on it for no reason. Just let it come to you when it comes.

WotC needs to reprint Retribution of the Meek in a big, big way.

It's on the Reserved List, FYI.

  • posted a message on People who are pimping out their decks: will you be going for expeditions?
I considered going for the expeditions for the new lands (Canopy Vista, etc.), but decided against it. I don't really care for the frame, I prefer the art of the originals for all of the cards, and I don't really like the way the foiling looks. My general rule of thumb is original foil (unless Beta or Korean pre-foil versions are available), and these just don't tickle my fancy, so I am going to pass.

Sweet. Always nice to see someone else playing Child, even if the list is completely different than my own. Reflecting Pool kind of sticks out, though; I prefer the old art myself, so I have a Korean copy instead of foil.

    Channel Fireball restocked Demonic Pact...at $15. :/

You can get it much cheaper than that. A lot of stores on TCGPlayer have it for $8-9 with shipping. To be honest, the spike has only doubled the card's price and it is still continuing to go down.

Oh, no chance I would buy in at $15. It's not sustainable for a card that has not had any real success as yet. I was just quite surprised at the restock price. Oh, and per an email I received, I did get the 4 copies I ordered through TCG Player during the buyout, so that's good enough for me.

I believe there's a buyout underway for Demonic Pact. The card has risen a little over a $1 in the days leading up to the Pro Tour and it has saw some action at the event as a combo with Woodland Bellower and Invasive Species.

EDIT: Demonic Pact is now completely bought out on TCGPlayer. Foils are gone as well.

I was trying to buy my playset in the middle of that. Both playsets I clicked on to purchase on Ebay sold before I clicked to BIN (and there were no playsets left for BIN after that), and Channel Fireball's 30 copies sold out while I was checking out. Ended up finding 4 from a random store through TCG, although I am not holding my breath about the sale going through until I receive a shipping confirmation.

You have a few ways to search up Slide (or Fluctuator, in one instance): Enlightened Tutor, Sterling Grove, Idyllic Tutor. You also tend to see a lot of cards via cycling. I played a few games with my build before FNM, and had access to Slide in all but one of them, when I simply flooded out and just never drew business spells at all. I am a longtime fan of Slide, but I wasn't super happy with my list, so I am going to make some changes and see if I can get some games in tomorrow before Game Day.

    When people play Halimar Depths.

Just that. I strongly dislike that card.

I kind of hate that most people tap their permanents correctly (clockwise), since I tap everything counterclockwise. I have no idea why I do that, but I have for 19 years, so I doubt I'll stop anytime soon.
Hey now, don't be hatin on my 'Depths! Ugh, you're probably one of those people that think ETBT lands are the devil, and you'd sooner play City of Brass than Temple of Enlightenment in a U/W multiplayer commander deck, like you're gonna use every mana every turn forever. That's fine, I'll just be over here saving money and only drawing the cards I want.

    Wink

I do try to run a balance of ETBT lands, but I play a decent amount (and always play Temples, pretty much). My hatred for Depths is simply a reflection of my hatred for that type of effect; you just see your doom coming, and if you happen to not have a shuffle effect...ugh. It's a residue from playing it in Standard back in the day, likely, but I have tried it in EDH decks and wasn't wild about it, so...yeah.

I have been working out a list, and instead of Containment Priest I have slotted in Sundial of the Infinite; it's a bit less susceptible to removal, which makes up for the additional mana cost of its use, IMO (again, I have yet to play the deck).

Two copies of the deck made T16 at the SCG Premier IQ in Indy yesterday: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/deckshow.php?&t[C1]=1&start_date=02/01/2015&end_date=02/01/2015&start=1&finish=16&city=Indianapolis (sorry, the link formatting isn't working correctly)

Both are more derivative of Toepfner's list than Page's, although the 14th place list did run a total of 4 Chord of Calling in the 75.

Also why the f is Ari Lax playing white bordered basics.

To tilt people. Tilt might be a big word but some people hate whiteboarded cards so much that seeing a whiteboarded basic land, from 6th edition with the ugliest logo, can upset them/throw them off. Could also be to piss of spectators in which case his plan seems to be working.

Personally I don't really hate Lax or anything like that, but his behaviour is not making me a fan either. Then again what does he care, he's there to win the PT not to win over an audience.
No idea if it’s even possible to “tilt” someone just by playing white borders; honestly, if it actually does legitimately bother you to the point you misplay, you deserve to lose anyway.

That said, there's an immediate reason I can think of to make them white-bordered other than this idea of tilting; it sets them apart from the rest of the deck. In my Urzatron deck in Modern, I deliberately got the 5th Edition Urza lands because due to their White border and old style, they were set apart from everything else in the deck (which were all Black-bordered and mostly in the new style). Well, that and I think they just look better than the other printings, but I still do like how they stand out from the rest of the deck due to the different border.

Another possible reason is to make them easier to spot while fetching; I've known people who do that just to shave a few seconds off of their match times.
