Less cards and making drafting more expensive doesn't seem like a win WotC made this out to be to "save limited." The least they could have done was split the difference between the packs and put his new pack in between the prices of the two being cut. They could have at least cut the art card and included another card. I understand some like them, at first I was rather fond of them, but I'd rather have a game piece than a bookmark, and if they could remove the ad/tip card(s) altogether that would be swell or at least put them on the back of tokens, at least those are nice game pieces to open rather than a "Wanna play more? Then buy Magic twice with Arena!!!!"
In the end this seems like another "Hasbro needs us to make more profit" and force those that like limited to spend more.
I bought the previous ones and I'm glad these are silver bordered, makes them more collectibles than game pieces and not having to force them onto other players without an a-ok for silver border. If these were the norm for UB I'd be more okay with it, but with that said I'll buy this to finish off the set.
These honestly seem boring, disregarding my utter distaste for UB products, none of these seem the least bit interesting.
The wraith land is like what if Rogue's Passage also stopped your creature(s) from blocking. How do you make something better and worse than an uncommon?
The have-nots will always complain about the products which they either can't afford or don't interest them.
I honestly can't imagine the ability to call people "have-nots" when they find legitimate criticisms with poor products or people being unable to afford cards at an increased mark up. "You guys have-nots for not wanting to spend $30 on a whole 80 cents of Bakshi LotR movie variants."
The criticisms of SLs are not something made up by these imaginary angry people but because there are problems with them from WotC ignoring stores, the constant deluge of products, many of the SLs being nowhere near the price you're paying for them, if they are worth it a vast majority of the value is leaned on heavily by one specific card with the others being jank more often than not, and more. They aren't doing it due to some preposterous idea that they're missing out somehow.
Also, can you be a "have-not" when you're purposefully not attaining a thing? Guess I'm a "have-not" by hating being kicked in the crotch.
I was also slightly annoyed that it took many months to receive the "Heads I Win, Tails You Lose" deck, but I assume that was solely due to the coins which weren't "minted" in time for prompt distribution.
"Many months" is one heck of a boiling down of the over a year long wait to get it. It would have been quicker to use a time machine back to the 80s and wait 6 months for a sweepstakes to be sent to you.
As for value, lest we forget each drop also contains a bonus "mystery" card
Ah yes, the ""mystery" card" that could be anything from a $20 Arcbound Ravager to a $2 sliver. Play the gacha harder.
Truthfully, most drops appreciate in value better than my mutual funds, so I suppose my only complaint now is that I don't have more disposable income to order more of them (spare copies to keep sealed) so I can trade them at later dates for double, if not more than what I paid.
The problem with this is that when people speak of the value of a SL they are talking about the individual cards that make up the SL and if all you're going to do is keep it unopened in order to play the stock market then you don't really have to worry about the value of each single card. Also, who trades for a SL? It would honestly be cheaper to just buy the individual cards in them, much like how it's usually much cheaper to buy a non SL version of the cards rather than paying that mark up that WotC likes to put on the ones that can't reach $30-$40.
remember when secret lairs were a new thing and garnered a little bit of excitement, but a vocal minority of us were concerned about things like reprint equity?
we're there!
I don't know if reprint equity is why these are subpar/bad. SLs have always been this way, usually one card propping up the value of the entire thing while you have at least one or two that are 60-80% the value and one that is usually amazing in foil due to first time foil reprints. Then you have the land SLs, which are always a bad value no matter if you like the art or not.
So only about two of these are worth getting based on value alone based on one card, which tends to be the SL MO. One of these is almost illegible. I will say I get a bit of a chuckle seeing Rewind in the VHS SL. I kinda like the baseball one, even if the value isn't there; Ajani's "briefly traded to the Phyrexians" is a good joke.
WotC, how you gonna show gummy worm monsters in this world and not make one gummy worm creature that we can actually play? This set is a failure on that alone.
After Commander Masters, LotR, and Aftermath this set feels great to be back with normal Magic that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, isn't a gimmick set, or a IP set with a gimmick in it. I quite enjoy this set, minus the lack of gummy worms.
One thing I think people are forgetting with Antics is that Roles are enchantments and many ways to gain benefit from spitting out 6+ enchantments at one time.
Finally, proper versions of those cards. Now WotC just needs to end the other parts of the UB Reserved List with proper versions of 40k, LotR, Transformers, Dr. Who, and every other UB they'll do that nonsense with.

They changed secret lair commander decks from $100 to $150 with the Brute to Cute Commander deck a while back. As for why, it's to maximize profits.
I figured that's what it was, but was hoping (why, I don't know) that there would be an actual reason that's not dollar sign pupils. Totally forgot Cute to Brute even came out, and it's price, even though it just did three months ago. That product deluge really helps you forget.
It does look like Rakdos, but Rakdos is very big. Just take a look at the art for Unlikely Aid (War of the Spark version), or Rakdos the Defiler. As you can see Rakdos is huge, so unless he can manipulate his size, or they retcon his size, it may not be.
In the end this seems like another "Hasbro needs us to make more profit" and force those that like limited to spend more.

For $100, like the coin flip deck, this would be alright, but for $150 this is just plain disappointing.
