A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

I got bored at work today and thought about CS a lot ... had a couple thoughts:
Now I didnt see the chat where Wizards said that YMTC3 was being pushed back, but is it possible that it will be pushed into Coldsnap, not the next block? A strange, almost-out-of-flavor WU card would be right at home in the Ice Age setting.
I'm guessing that CS won't be T2 legal, but legal in most, if not all, other formats. Wizards has said a few times (usually in context of a Chronicles 2) that they dont really want to expand the size of the Standard card pool, plus if they ignore Standard, they can push the power level of the set a bit higher to make some cards more attractive in Type 1.
Also, much more randomly, what if Coldsnap isn't just a follow-up to Ice Age and Alliances? Is it possible, however remote, that the next block will itself be a throwback to Ice Age? Could Coldsnap be a prequel of sorts to start things off for the 2006-07 block?
Personally, I expect a small set, smaller than the small expansions we've been getting, maybe about 100-110 cards, based mostly on the modern-day colour wheel. I say mostly because I expect we'll see a couple of cards in each colour that reflect old-style colour balance. I think we'll see a design team made up of Wizards Veterans and development team of more recent talent, put in place to "fix" things to modern standards.
Also, because Ravnica block's keywords are all pretty much locked to their guilds, this set would give R&D a chance to bring in some new non-block-specific keywords and such (like Doublestrike, Equipment, indestructible).
Finally, I think we can expect 4 sets a year from now on, not only because of financial reasons, but also because of the design freedom ... Summer sets:
    2003: 8th Edition Core Set
    2004: Unhinged
    2005: 9th Edition Core Set
    2006: Coldsnap
    2007: 10th Edition Core Set
    2008: Un3? Some other wildcard?
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Poison Counters return in this set ... The set seems like it could be one of MaRo's pet projects/ideas ... I guess we'll know more tomorrow though.
