The Game: Mario Kart 64
Scenario: 3-player race with my two brothers on Princess Peach's Castle stage.
I lead easily on the last lap and as I approach the finish, I take a hard turn towards the water and jump off the track just as I cross the finish. While the computer-controlled celebration sequence has begun, Lakitu fishes me out of the water and places me back on the track behind the finish line. As one brother approaches the finish, I accelerate under computer control and cross in front of him. I'm credited with a second-place finish, my brother takes third and my other brother, still on the course, manages a fourth-place finish in a 3-man race.
If so, what if it takes 'lethal' counters? Could I choose to turn it back into a creature before applying the -1 counters?
If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if, say, your Mishra's Factory gets 2 -1/-1 counters, can you pay the 1 activation cost to turn it back into 2/2 and make the counters irrelevant? The answer to that is no, as the p/t-changing effect of the counters is applied after the p/t-setting effect of the Factory.
Pestule: Rod of Ruin was T for artifact ping. Since this is repeatable and it allows you to spend excess mana at end of turn, splitting the cost over multiple turns, I think 5 counters is the sweet spot, or 4 counters with a 1 added to the second ability to minimize the impact of counter-manipulating shenanigans.
A symmetric effect is not necessarily (and is rarely) a balanced effect. Any deck that runs this would do it only because the lifegain is more beneficial to the card's controller than to the opponent.
I can justify iRebel's post as non-spam for the reason that he, a Global Moderator, is stating his support for what a subordinate section moderator. While a one-word reply is usually spam, this seems to be a reasonable use.
You do realise a transparent textbox with different shades like that of a planeswalker would look incredibly messy with a watermark right? I'm convinced it is that way for aesthetics and for no other reason.
Agreed. The art transparency and shading contrast would look terrible with a watermark added into the mix. While Elspeth seems to be aligned with the Mirran faction in spirit, the card can't reasonably reflect that without the textbox becoming too busy and fugly.
It's possible, but two data points don't prove anything. Magic products tend to use simple, iconic cards, the kind you'd use in a core set.
I don't think M12 is finallized yet, nor do i think they plan these things out that far ahead.
I'm not sure if M12 is finished yet, but it's at least well in the works. And a decision about which big-ticket iconic cards to bring back, like Bolt in M10 is likely one of the first things they figure out. I suppose it's plausible, but I'm not sure it's probable.
I'm not sure I understand. How exactly do you expect this Overextended format to work? All sets newer than a specific, unchanging starting block? The only way for your cards to never become obsolete is if the format never rotates but only grows, and my impression has been that when people talk about an "Overextended" format is they're expecting a rotating format that's simply larger than Extended (like the last 8 years instead of 4).
This—everything from _______ forward—is exactly what'd been rumored as a companion change to the shortening of the Extended rotation window to 4 years. It locks the sets impacted by the Reserved List out and allows Wizards the theoretical ability to reprint any card within the format at any time. It'd be like a ... Modern Vintage.

I'd even go further and say that we have probably seen zero or close to zero Phyrexian-faction cards so far. (Memoricide probably is but we haven't seen the "real" art for it yet.) Almost everything we've seen fits very well with the Mirrodin "style" that's already been built up and they pretty clearly want to keep the nature of the other faction "secret" for as long as possible.
To back this up, notice how Wizards is eagerly embracing the return to Mirrodin, but have yet to use the P-word (Phyrexia) even once (to my knowledge) in the early push for SoM. MaRo's twitter alluded to the foundations laid 7 years ago in Mirrodin, but merely implied a deep background to the keyword InfeCt.
Wizards is playing their Return-of-Yawgmoth-ites cards very close to the chest. It should come as no surprise that the balance of the previewed/promo arts for SoM feature the presumptive faction whose name they can't help but reveal (Announcing... Scars of something-to-be-disclosed-later!!!) and obfuscate the other.
They've just done Leylines 2.0. It's much more likely to be a cycle of something novel. If the Scars-is-Alternate-Win-Conditions-Block theory (from Speculation) is to be believed, then it may be a cycle of Enchantments that would enable such a thing (or, to further distinguish from Leylines, Instants that create Emblems to create AWCs, but now I'm edging into Epileptic Trees territory).
