Sci Fi Games and Comics, located at 3215 Old Chapel Hill Rd.
It runs Legacy games at 2 p.m. on Sundays, usually seeing 14-18 participants. Meta-wise, expect the usual suspects of Delver and Maverick with the occasional combo deck.
The people are friendly and the store is clean. Recommended.
Please note that Sci Fi is rebranding and moving to a new location about a mile away from the current site at the end of September, with the relaunch coinciding with the Ravnica prerelease. They've just had so many people lately that they've outgrown the current space. New shop name will be "Atomic Empire."
I think it's the best place for legacy play in the Raleigh/Durham area. Sanctioned tournaments on Sundays as decomp mentioned, and tons of people turn out on Wednesdays for standard/legacy/vintage testing. Modern isn't as popular at the shop, though a lot of us regulars have modern decks on us regardless in case anyone comes in for a pick-up game.
Yeah, I keep hoping they reprint birds of paradise once or twice so those alpha ones come down to under a buck.
Classic guitars and records don't nosedive in price when they make replicas.
And if the cards currently in circulation are any indication, it wouldn't affect Magic either.
I wish I could upvote this, because the Birds example is perfect. I'm sure there would be some impact on pricing of reserved list items if they were ever reprinted, but I don't know that it would be the "TO THE GROUND" level that people are afraid of. Alpha and Beta will stay expensive (though having new black border options would diminish their appeal slightly). Revised and Unlimited may see more of a drop, but they aren't expensive on the level of A/B anyways.
Your friend is correct. You have to sac Glen Elendra as part of the cost to using her ability. Her being sacrificed makes her an illegal target for Momentary Blink, since she technically isn't there anymore.
I'd probably buy a set of moxen; 2k should get close with some shopping around. Maybe HP ones and just get them altered.
Not that this is the most effective use of the 2k if you were going to try and buy into living formats...just what I would do based on what I already have.
I heard from several store owners that UltroPro made it so that Pro-Matte cannot be double sleeved with KMC Perfect Size. The only inner sleeves that can be double sleeved with Pro-Matte are the UltroPro ProFit.
Can please anyone confirm this?
This is false. I use KMC perfect size sleeves with the new-size UltraPro Pro-Matte sleeves. It takes a bit of work to get them in there the first time or two, but they will fit. They loosen up after shuffling for a while as well, making it easier to re-sleeve afterwards.
It is usually easier to sleeve the card with the perfect-fit, then turn it upside down and slide the ultra pro down onto it. Sometimes when you get it half way, you can stick your fingers down the front and help slide it the rest of the way.
I feel like I'm writing a guide on how to apply a prophylactic.
Since SCG is in Roanoke, VA, I imagine they'll release at 12AM Eastern on Friday November 11, 9PM Pacific Thursday Nov 10. Even if it were WotC, they always seem to release at 12AM EST as well.
Hmmm.... someone do the math... of course for all we know, 20 of those cards are Swamps.
30 different. Swamp counts as one of those 30, even if it is 20 copies.
So given Swamp and the six other cards we know for sure, we have 23 cards remaining to spoil. So if there are 16-20 swamps in it, that would leave 40-44 other cards. We know six of them, so that's 34-38 cards we don't know. Subtracting out 23 uniques, we've got maybe 11-15 cards that are duplicates?
You can still go to the parties and such, you just don't have to drink yourself. I made the same promise to myself as you, and I managed to get through undergrad and graduate school without drinking - period. My social life was pretty awesome regardless; you just have to have other charming characteristics that people enjoy instead. Granted, it can be a little more awkward depending on the country you are in, and people might pick on you a little about it in a friendly way, but in the end, everyone appreciates a DD.

+1, I think that was the only Dark Ritual that actually looked like a ritual. Maybe the Mirage one as well, but yeah.
The last decent one I saw was Vault Skirge.
Also, enemy-pair editions of the Scars lands.
I think I remember Maro saying they wouldn't do a literal "Human" tribe, due to the awkwardness of having a card say "sacrifice a human".
