Artifacts, lands, and other permanents. As soon as the spell is flipped face up, it ceases being a creature and is cast at once. As opposed to morph that simply flips it face up and would not be cast or anything else, the mote mechanic says that the spell is cast after flipping up therefore state based effects would happen after the mote trigger resolves meaning the instant or sorcery would no longer be a part of the battlefield and would instead be on the active stack.

Thank you for the input. I did not realize the mechanic was potentially hazardous. But I will endeavor to finish this set regardless.

What issue? It seems to work fine as it is worded. Am I missing something?

There are no sorcerys or instants with morph, it has to work differently due to the spell having to activate when it flips. Such a change warrants a new keyword to support it.

Seems likely that he may have come to investigate the the energies set loose.

Salvar is a cool concept, I did not think of adding a mote lord. Though, I might not make him legendary, or maybe I will change a few of the heroes to work more mechanically with the set. Either way it is going in.

Great idea! How would he become involved though, do any of the walkers know of him at this point in the timeline?

This set features a story where Nicol Bolas succeeded on Alara and awakened his old spark again. Jace, joined by Elspeth, Lilliana, Garuk, and Chandra, seeks out the only hope capable of stopping him, the plane that the Spark originated on.

Nicol Bolas, a powerful elder dragon and the oldest known planeswalker. His machinations caused a war of horrid magnitude on the plane of Alara during the Conflux. His intention, to create a mass of power when the shards of the broken plane collided together. As the shards colided, the denizens became frantic and the mana of the plane began to collapse into a wicked maelstrom. During the final conflict, the planeswalker Ajani Goldmane attempted to avenge his brother and stop Bolas by facing him in a duel, Completely overpowered, Ajani attempted to summon Bolas’s own soul to fight against the great dragon. But, the Bolas saw through the summoning and took advantage to close in and afflict Ajani with his touch. This broke the leonin planeswalker and the summoning failed. Languishing in his victory, Bolas absorbed the entirety of the Maelstrom, causing the plane of Alara to collapse and fade into nothingness. Bolas was reborn, his planeswalker spark lighted anew with the power of the old spark, Nothing could stop him. He took the shattered Ajani, as well as his subordinate, Sarkan Vol, and left the plane to its fate.

Meanwhile, Elspeth Tirel, a planeswalker of White mana, fought against the hordes of savage zombies and demons that flooded her new home of Bant. During the conflict, she felt a great surge in the mana of the world, then felt as it was all taken away, leaving nothing. Both the army of Demons and the Angel Knights of Bant stopped, both sides feeling the sudden absence. Undead began falling to pieces and demons began fading as the dark magic that fueled them began to fade. The armies of Bant cheered, but it did not last as the angels and archons that had fought so valiantly began to fall from the sky and fade as well. Elspeth watched in horror, as the magic of the entire plane drained and even the humans around her began to fade. A great crack appeared in the sky, not teaming with energy, but collapsed into nothingness. With a cry of mourning Elspeth summoned the little remaining mana around her and planeswalked away. Maddened with rage by the loss of yet another home, Elspeth pursued the beacon of mana that was fleeing Alara. She was almost upon it when she was stopped by another planeswalker, Jace Beleren.

Jace Beleren had been working for an organization called the Infinite Consortium. A group that spanned the planes and that had, until recently, had been headed by the artificer Tezzeret. During a meeting that had taken place between the Consortium leader and Nicol Bolas over some matter, Bolas arrived filled with an unknown power and crushed Tezzeret with a blast of raw mana. Jace had only escaped by sensing Bolas’s intention and fleeing for his life before the dragon unleashed his power. Jace, both intrigued and frightened by Bolas’s sheer power, had searched for clues and discovered the that Bolas had regained an old power that was only known to planeswalkers very long ago.

Jace urged Elspeth not to pursue Bolas for she was hopelessly outmatched. Instead he proposed that she come with him to a meeting he had arranged with three other planeswalkers. The gathering was to determine what, if anything was to be done about Bolas. Elspeth begrudgingly agreed, following Jace to a hideout that was the meeting place for the planeswalkers.

Elspeth Tirel, Jace Beleren, Lilliana Vess, Chandra Nalaar, and Garruk Wildspeaker, each a master of one color of mana. All gathered by one thing, the most powerful planeswalker in existence gaining the abilities that had been long lost to.

Jace explained to the others what he had found out from a visit to Dominara, the Nexus of the multiverse. He discovered that planeswalkers of old had had even greater power than they possessed now, akin to gods. The ability to shape entire planes at a mere whim. This was the power Nicol Bolas had regained. Knowing he had obtained the power by causing an entire plane to vanish from existence made it a relatively easy decision that he must be stopped. Jace revealed more, that he had found an ancient text that told of a different nexus that had once existed. A paradise that had existed as the first Nexus, this plane was where the spark inherent to all planeswalkers had been born. Jace theorized that getting to the plane would require an immense power, that is why he had needed to gather the others. If hope to stop Nicol Bolas existed, it would be here.

After each had prepared for a long journey, the planeswalkers met again. Jace had prepared a method to access the plane. A Gatestone that amplified the powers of the spark to allow travel to the farthest reaches of the multiverse with ease. Taking places around the stone, each of the five poured their power into it. The Gatestone flared to life and each of the planeswalkers felt an explosion of energy inside themselves. Focusing this energy, Jace aimed them towards the target and they all lurched forward, powered by the gate.

Flying through the Blind Eternities, the planeswalkers felt their bodies being battered more and more, straining from the energy of the Gatestone. Struggling to maintain consciousness they glimpsed the plane still far ahead of them.Jace, in a desperate attempt to propel them the final distance, gathered the other planeswalkers close and caused an eruption of Æther behind them, propelling themselves forward and to their destination. The blast drained the last of Jace’s energy and he lost consciousness.

Meanwhile, to the denizens of this unknown plane, five lights were seen in the sky headed towards the ground in different directions.

This set is a new idea I have been milling about in my head. On this plane the five will journey to find the origin of the planeswalker spark and in doing so find the first planeswalker. In this plane, unconnected to the rest of the multiverse the First is completely oblivious of and untouched by what goes on outside his plane. Instead occupying himself by creating heroes and villians to play out great stories across the plane.

In this plane, everything is malleable and the entire plane is recreated by the First on a near constant basis. I want this to be represented in the playstyle of the set.

I created the keywords Mote, Synergy, and Reclaim to show the ever changing and renewing nature of the plane.

Mote - Mostly used by blue and red, it is a form of morph for spells. It reads as such "You may cast this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up and cast it any time for its mote cost."

Synergy - Mostly used by green and white, it displays multiple card and creature types coming together to increase their strength. It is a pseudo keyword that reads like this "If you control two other permanents that share a [type/creature type] with CARDNAME, X"

Reclaim - Mostly used by Black and a bit green and white. It is an ability that takes cards back from your graveyard and returns them to you to make more use of. It reads like this "During your upkeep, if this card is in your graveyard, you may pay its reclaim cost. If you do, return this card to its owner’s hand."

The other keywords in the set are Morph, Suspend, Forecast, and Flash.

White - Creature types are Human, Angel, and Leonin. White will make use of Synergy, Suspend, and Forecast to create legions of troops, with a focus on the Soldier class. White will also have limited Reclaim for resurrection type cards.

Blue - Creature types are Elf, Leviathan, and Merfolk. Blue will use Suspend, Mote, and Morph to manipulate the board with illusions and sudden spells.

Black - Creature types are Demon, Zombie, Human. Black will use Reclaim, Forecast, and Mote to create a pacts and rituals type play.

Red - Creature types are Giant, Goblin, Dragon. Red will use Flash, Morph, and Suspend to get a lightning style blitz play with suspended late game cards for backups.

Green - Creature types are Elf, Wurm, Beast, and Plant. Green will use Suspend, Synergy, and Reclaim to provide an evolution type play with multiple creatures forming herds, packs, and colonies.

Okay for examples of the keywords here are some of the cards I have produced so far.

    Creature - Human Soldier Common
Synergy — If you control two or more creatures that share a creature type with Sentry Patrol, it has +1/+1 and vigilance
    1/2

    Sew the Seeds G
    Sorcery Common
Reclaim G (During your upkeep, if this card is in your graveyard, you may pay G. If you do, return this card to its owner’s hand.)
Search your library for up to one Forest card, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

As for the Heroes villains theme, I figured the first set would be the "Hero" side of the plane with 10 Ravnica color Heroes and the second set would be the "Villain" set, showing the darker parts, with the final set being the "Conflict" set that pits the two sides against one another. Each "Hero" is mythic rare.

Here are my ideas for the 10 Hero Cards
    Relsan, Light's Darkness 3WB

    Legendary Creature - Goblin Wizard
You may pay 0 rather than pay a creature’s Mote cost.

Feedback on the story as well as any ideas for cards and concepts will be greatly appreciated. Also I need a name for the plane. I was thinking Principia, based on the latin word principium which means beginning. Thanks in advance for any ideas you have.

Well, Ventus is an experimental golem, so his creators are making adjustments to him in order to find which mana combination returns the most favorable results. The results were RG: The ideal weapon, able to create while destroying enemies WB: The everlasting Cycle returning those it has ended. So the last one would probably be a perfect machine, embodying both of its former selves in while still retaining a difference.

Here are my ideas for the first and second forms

    The first:
    Ventus, Growth and Destruction 2RG
    Planeswalker - Ventus
/+2\ Put two 0/1 green saproling creature tokens onto the battlefield under your control
\-2/ Creatures you control get +1/+1 and first strike until end of turn
\-10/ Destroy up to 3 target permanents, then search your library for up to 3 land cards and put them onto the battlefield tapped
    [3]

    The second:
    Ventus, Life and Death 3WB
    Planeswalker - Ventus
/+2\ Sacrifice a creature, you gain life equal to that creatures toughness
\-1/ Target creature gets -3/-3 until end of turn
\-10/ Return up to 5 creature cards from any graveyard to the battlefield under your control
    [3]

I don't know what colors the third one should be, I thought about pure blue, but there are enough pure blue planeswalkers maybe Blue/Red?

I was thinking about cutting most of them and making one artificial with three different forms. So one in each of the blocks.

How's this for sexy? Looks a bit too powerful, should I up the mana cost?

    Tre Ep, Assistant 7
/+1\ Put a -1/-1 or +1/+1 counter on target creature
\-4/ Double the counters on target permanent other than Tre Ep, Powerflux
\-7/ You may divide 10 +1/+1 counters among creatures you control, or you may divide 10 -1/-1 counters among creatures you don’t control

Thanks for the help, I realy don't know much about balancing planeswalkers but I've wanted to do some colorless ones for a while. These are pretty much a shot in the dark.

This an idea I've pondered for a while and I decided to create a set around it. What if the planeswalker spark could be manufactured into special machines or golems? Therefore I've created The Artificial.

The plane of Haera is a plane that has an unusual concentration of mana, so much in fact, that the creatures of the plane have evolved natural connections to it and are able to manipulate mana in unheard of ways. For example, some can manifest mana into physical objects. One product of this mana-shaping is Vulcan Steel, an unperceivable metal completely unbreakable once created
The mana research facility located in the city of Vurun. Is the top research center of the plane. Producing many unique inventions from the mana of the plane. Some of their creations are way beyond anything other planes have. Specifically, they can manufacture a planeswalker spark. Unfortunately, these sparks are highly unstable and have destroyed almost every body they have been placed in. However, one Golem has succeeded in bonding with the spark, Ventus, a humanoid golem was created using both machine and biological parts. The golem was made to be able to bond with shards of mana so he may channel that mana through him and use the spark. So far Ventus has succeeded in using mana and is in the process of bonding with different colors specifically.
    Ky Serl, Shadower 8
    Planeswalker - Ky Serl
/+1\ Target creature gets shroud until your next upkeep
\-3/ Spells you play cannot be countered until end of turn
\-10/ Get an emblem with “Permanents you control cannot be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control”
    [2]

    Obb Yob, Researcher 7
    Planeswalker - Obb Yob
\-1/ Draw a card, then put one card from your hand on top of your library
\-2/ Look at the top 5 cards of your library then put them back in any order
\-4/ Discard your hand then draw three cards
    [6]

    Otm Yen, Healer 5
    Planeswalker - Otm Yen
/+1\ The next time target creature would be destroyed this turn, regenerate it
\-1/ Gain 1 life for each creature you control
\-6/ Get an emblem with “1: Gain 1 life”
    [2]

    Ren Tik, Gravekeeper 8
    Planeswalker - Ren Tik
    /+2\ Sacrifice a creature
\-4/ Return one creature card from your graveyard to your hand
\-10/ Each player sacrifices each creature they control, then, you may return any number of creature cards from graveyards to the battlefield under your control
    [3]

    Tre Ep, Assistant 5
/+1\ If target permanent has any counters on it, you may put one counter on it of any type that is already on it
\-2/ Move any number of counters from one permanent you control to another permanent
[0] Move all counters on Tre Ep, Assistant to another planeswalker
    [1]

    Ven Ik, Banisher 7
/+1\ Target creature gains shadow until end of turn
\-3/ Discard a card, exile target creature
\-9/ Until end of turn you may play creature cards that have been exiled without paying their mana cost
    [2]

    Vi Dad, Cultivator 6
/+1\ You may play an additional land this turn
\-2/ Destroy target land, that land’s controller may search their library for up to two basic lands and put them into play tapped
\-8/ Search your library for any number of lands and put them into play tapped
    [4]

Edit: Cut the golems and changed the story

Thanks for the help Tyrantherus. Here are some changes on the cards.

Expanding Roots: How about making it "Choose one - Search your library for a basic land card, reveal it, and put it into your hand; or put a basic land card from your hand into play"

Maneater Vine: Changed it to the reach, flying destroy. That was a good idea.

Primal Call: I reduced it to the top four cards, with the rest going into your graveyard instead of back in your library. I was also thinking about making it so only green creatures are put into play.

Primus: Added discard a creature card or sacrifice it when it comes into play

Saren: Put green in token costs now 1G for an elf and 2G for a beast

    Do these look good?
