Finally i played today the WMCQ from my country with Nikachu's decklist, putting me directly into Top 8 after seven rough rounds.
This week i saw so much Affinity in the LGSs from my city and i thought changing my deck to BW Tokens or BR Liliana, but i trusted in Merfolks and they rewarded me so well. I'm happy
I want to give thanks to Nikachu for sharing all his knowledge about this deck through his videos on youtube, posting advices and relevant info here, all this served A LOT to me and even made me a better player.
Round 3: Burn(3-x-x).
Game 1: I preserved my life total as high as possible(nikachu's phrase) exchanging creatures in combat. When my oponent run out of gas, a Master of the Waves stabilized the board and it's over.
Game 2: Same as game 1. Easy game
Round 4: Burn(4-x-x).
Game 1, He has only two lands on turn 4, Spreading Seas to one of them, draw, OTHER SPREADING SEAS from the top, enchant the second land, and it's over.
Game 2, Chalice of the Void with 1 counter on turn 2 make things very easy to me. Silvergill Adept and Lord of Atlantis punished him for being so ugly!
Round 5: UR Twin(5-x-x)
Game 1, he started turn 1 playing GRIM LAVAMANCER. A Nightmare. He burned my entire team and Splinter Twin making my life a real pain.
Game 2, We are the control here, attacking him with few creatures while having untapped mana to counter EVERYTHING. Dismember finish his last try on the combo.
Game 3, Exchanging resources forever, creatures, spells, counters, everything(very long game). Aether Vial on 4, putting Master of the Waves into play(4 tokens) at his end phase and putting the second one on my turn to hit for exact 12, his life total. The slow and calm play rewarded me, i almost forget sacrifice a Cursecatcher to counter a very needed Cryptic Command by my oponent(tap/draw) on last turn
Round 6: I don't know(5-x-1). Intentional draw
Round 7: RG Tron(6-x-1)
Game 1: Total aggro with a Cursecatcher and double Lord, keeping mana open to counter his Pyroclasm and Oblivion Stone
Game 2: He can't go into Tron, while i beat him in the same way as game 1. NOTE: i've played with 3 Sea's Claim instead of 3 Tectonic Edge. NEVERMORE. Tectonic Edge solves definitly the land problem, denying from mana instead just making mana-screw(Oblivion Stone get rid of 2 Sea's Claim and 1 Spreading Seas)
Top 8
Ad-Nauseam(lost)
Game 1, only drew Spell Pierce when he is full of mana and 2 Phyrexian Unlife with Angel's Grace backup. I ate the combo
Game 2: Full aggro with Chalice of the Void in 0 and a hand full of Negates a Spell Pierces.
Game 3: long game, hard fight. I was short of counterspells and Spell Pierce losing all his effectivity in the long game, while he has 3 lands turned into islands(two enchanted with Sea's Claim) to finally making combo. If that 2x Sea's Claim had been Tectonic Edges, he could never had played Ad-Nauseam with Angel's Grace. BIG MISTAKE
Tired, happy, lesson learned: "Trust in your Tectonic Edges" and two boxes of Magic Origins in my hands.
I could have won this one.
That's all folk. Merfolk is rising high!
Sorry about my bad english, but this is not my maternal language
This Saturday, there is Modern WMCQ on my country and today i've discovered that the metamage in my city is FULL of Affinity.
It's so frustrating to know that my worst matchup is one of the most played in the ar ea.
4 matches with 2 affinity rounds on day one and 4 matches with 3 affinity rounds on day two!!!
I'm gonna play other decklist(Mardu Jund, BW Tokens, Deadguy Ale or Monoblack) with only 2 days to test out
How do you feel about your last decklist?, it looks so sweet!!!. I always liked Negate in the SB, several times i've used Swan Song with excellent results against combo decks.
Can you share with us a sideboard plan for your actual decklist?. This Saturday there are WMCQ Modern and i'm going to play Merfolk and you are my guide
I've been busy at work the past two weeks and haven't had time to post my results from the PPTQ I attended in Wixom, MI on 7/18. I finished 2nd out of the 36 in attendance (I scooped to my friend in the final round). All I have to say is Harbinger of the Tides was the superstar all day long.
Round 1 - 2-0 vs. UW Control. Triple MoW in G2 vs double Izzet Staticaster
Round 2 - 0-2 vs. Affinity (punted both games, g1 I forgot to vial in a creature on his eot, would have had more attackers than he had blockers...he was at 2 life. G2, misplayed my vapor snag as he sacked everything to Arcbound Ravager)
Round 3 - 2-0 vs. Bloom Titan (Harbinger ftw G1, Chalice of the Void on 0 T1 ended G2
Round 4 - 2-0 vs. Jund splashing U for Snapcaster Mage and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Awkward when on the draw, you cast T2 Spreading Seas with them representing Jund colors and they play T3 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver.
Round 5 - 2-1 vs. UR Twin
Round 6 Draw into top 8.
Quarter final - 2-1 vs. Affinity (G1, he vomitted out his hand on T1, game over. G2, T1 Chalice of the Void on 0, followed be triple Merrow Reejerey made it a short game. G3 Harbinger of the Tides came through in a clutch win.
Semi-final - 2-1 vs. 8 Rack, All I can say is that I'd rather be lucky than good.
Finals - Scooped to my friend who was playing Abzan Coco combo.
Just curious what the single polymorph's jest for .
There are like 5 people playing merfolk at our lcs. I've seen someone else play it for the mirror.
Haven't seen it used, though.
1.- Don't play Lord of Atlantis in early game, keep it for THE lethal attack
2.- Try to win die roll, haha
3.- Be as much aggresive as possible
4.- Save Vapor Snag and Dismember for lords
Uncharted Realms
Don't like that list.

Round 1: Bye 1-x-x
Round 2: CoCo (2-0) 2-x-x. Game 1, an early Spreading Seas enabled Islandwalk to my team and Lord of Atlantis guide me to win. Game 2, TEMPO!, Harbinger of the tides your Tarmogoyf, Tidebinder Mage your Kitchen Finks, Harbinger of the tides you Wilt-leaf Lidge and Hibernation to reset his entire board(Wilt, 2 Tarmogoyfs and Kitchen Finks) followed by 2 Master of the Waves and 13 Elemental tokens.
