    Suppose I somehow stole another player's creature(s)

if those creatures die, do they enter my graveyard TEMPORARILY and therefore trigger abilities from a card such as Nether Traitor or Angelic Renewal that I own? Or do they head straight to their owner's graveyard instead of making a temporary stop at mine?

    Quote from mr. smiley

So the OP's question (as I'm understanding it, at least) is where's the threshold above which you would undervalue what you're getting on a trading up/trading down basis? A $200 card for: 10 $20 cards? 20 $10 cards? 200 $1 cards? Is it different if you're trading a $50 card for 10 $5 cards? A $20 card for 4 $5 cards? You get the idea; also, how much does the presence of the high-value card on the reserve list (if it is) play into your decision, vs. if it wasn't on the reserve list?

    Exactly this.

Trying to trade down a $10 card is a little silly. At the lower end of the spectrum, there is little question about straight value between trading partners.

But trading a $200 card for $230 worth of $10 and under cards is very reasonable

My question is when do you try to squeeze extra value out of your own card? This sounds greedy, but 1.) it is necessary when you are liquidating and 2.) you all would do it

The general opinion seems to be that this threshold is less dictated by absolute price and more by factors like demand, usage in legacy/modern, and scarcity

  • posted a message on [[Official]] Trade Evaluation -- Pile A versus B
    All in NM/M

    Pile A ~$21-22
    1 Geist of Saint Traft

    Pile B ~$24-25
    1 Thraximundar
    1 Basilisk Collar
    2 Beastmaster Ascension
    1 Syphon Sliver
    1 Phyrexian Infiltrator FOIL
    1 Reiver Demon
    1 Personal Sanctuary
    1 Renegade Doppelganger

Question: How far do you guys see Geist dropping after rotation? I feel that it's too established in legacy/modern to drop much

Would you guys recommend using buylist prices to trade down? If so, should they be used for both sides?

    Real example:
I have a Sword of Fire and Ice, $35 on CFB, $20 on buylist
Suppose I wanted to trade for Goblin Guides. $8 on CFB, $5 on buylist

    ME : THEM
    buylist : buylist ---> 4 Guides
retail : buylist ---> 7 Guides (Best case, but not using the same standard to trade)
    retail : retail ---> 4.375 Guides
    buylist : retail ---> 2.5 Guides

Alright I think I feel a bit more comfortable about this.

What I meant by undervaluing my partner's cards wasn't to rip them off, but to get a bonus since I am liquidating one card into many. I guess asking for more absolute value is the same thing. i.e. 10 x $4 cards for a $35 card VS valuing those 10 at $3.50 instead of $4

I like the idea of 10-15% bonus when trading down or up, and I totally expect to have to put in more than the absolute values of the cards when I trade up.

Suppose I had a big-ticket item, single card, worth a good chunk of money, and I want to dissolve it into multiple smaller cards.

I can't simply trade dollar for dollar, since I am trading down, right? I have to cut their cards' prices by a fair margin to make it fair for myself

Is it ok to undervalue their cards in this case?
At what price of my single card should I start doing this?

  • posted a message on Triggers occuring when paying to cast cards
I have a question involving casting any spells in general with an additional cost

Ex. some spells like Bone Splinters make you sacrifice a creature, discard a card, etc. in addition to paying mana when casting

When I pay this additional cost, what order do i resolve any triggers that occur because of it, such as Savra, or a madness card AND select a target, if any, for the original spell

I believe that casting the card happens all at once, both paying the mana/other costs and selecting targets, with nothing in between, THEN, before the bone splinters resolves, I must choose to use savra's ability, meaning an opponent may sacrifice the creature i initially targeted using bone splinters

  • posted a message on Older booster packaging
I recently got a Prophecy booster from one of those Target repacks with the promo. I want to keep it for novelty since Prophecy really isn't worth anything, but the booster is really loose, and has a lot of air especially around the sides.

Is this normal for older boosters? I only started playing around 10th edition, so I wouldn't know

So Dragon's Maze, Gatecrash, RTR is best drafted in that order?

3 x RTR or 3 x Gatecrash seems fun as well

3 x Dragon's maze will NOT be ideal, correct? Because it's a small set?

    Thanks

14 or something. In my Grimgrin EDH-deck I had Pontiff of Blight out and a ****load of zombies...

Are you allowed to have that in a Grimgrin deck? It's a split mana symbol with white

OT: Never really seen a huge wipeout using extort. mostly draining 2-3 with pontiff of blight, and using mana for other things

So there's this concept of small sets and large sets. How does this play in when choosing packs to draft with?

My friends and I were thinking of drafting some form of return to ravnica block. Is there a recommended way of picking which sets to use, drafting in any particular order, etc.?

I've also heard of people just winging it, i.e. each player picks 3 packs from any set, and getting really interesting drafts

  • posted a message on What is a "rare draft" in terms of prizes?
I feel sorry for anyone who supports rare redrafts. They probably have the most miserable unlikable characters (aka nerds). There is so much arrogance in taking away someone else's joy because you think you are "better" and more skillful than they are. It is absolutely disgusting that some people are so immature that they cannot handle other people getting better stuff.

Some examples, besides rare redrafts, to help you better understand:
"OMG how did that idiot get into Harvard when I didnt??? I guess I should just hate his guts and attack him and ****"
"OMG how does that guy have such a beautiful girlfriend? I'm obviously much better suited to be her boyfriend. Better call him a d bag right away"

Please be more understanding and mature. Where does your satisfaction come from when you draft? The experience and time spent with friends opening cool cards for yourself, or the monetary value of prizes that were originally opened by someone else? And that argument about rewarding skill? pure BS. i don't know about you, but first place tends to get some sort of prize, maybe 8 packs. Sure you might not get anything "good", but why don't you go and nerd rage at anyone who has ever pulled a super good card out of a single, spontaneous pack bought on the way home or something. It is just being SO CLOSE to such a good card that starts up your jealousy

There is a pretty bad cycle here. Unlikable immature brat ---> no friends ---> must derive satisfaction from prizes rather than friendships ----> unlikable immature brat

I'm relatively new at EDH and after maybe 5-6 games so far with my friends I was wondering how one should go about playing in a larger multiplayer game (suppose, 5 man free for all)

    Things im wondering about:
1.) How do you attack and not worry about 4 people instantly killing you before you get to untap?

2.) How political is it? For example, should i spend one of my precious few removals to kill something that is NOT threatening me but is threatening a potential ally? It just seems lame to me when I try to wipe the Goblin player's board and he just turns to the Blue guy and promises to not attack him if he counters my wipe.

3.) What should I do if one person is just completely noob at magic? Babysit him? Go easy on him? Tell him to gtfo?

4.) How do you claw your way to the top when the rest of the group WILL try to focus the strongest player? Basically, how do you win when you are facing 4+ other people with removal, boardwipes, counters, etc.? Suggestions other than unfun and broken turn 4 kills?
